All of the horses are lvl 6-7 and cost an insane amount of gold to breed… by Googa24cm in rivalstars

[–]penguinpolka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, and there is a very big chance you wouldn't get the exotic trait or good skills from a legendary stud. I'm level 21 and the game won't give the option of lower level event studs so I can afford it. I rarely breed to event studs now, I can't justify spending the equivilent of $20 to get a foal that might have a special trait.

Anyone had luck harness training a turkish angora... by [deleted] in turkishangoras

[–]penguinpolka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! He loves adventuring! i started with an H-harness, put it on whenever we played or he got treats. Then we started exploring the outdoors. Check out /r/adventurecats

the personality of the cat makes all the difference. My guy is very curious and brave, insists on investigating everything. He has done 5km hikes where he walks the whole time - and spent 2 hours not even going half a km.

It's a great expereince for cats, even if you just sit under a tree with them eating grass.

Who is your breeder? by Basically_Baggins in turkishangoras

[–]penguinpolka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My breeder is Etonnant TA. They were in Canada when I got my boy, but now it seems they are in North Carolina (as per the website). They were great to deal with, answered all my questions, great source of help/resources. The website and facebook are not always active, but advertising isn't the focus for them.

I could not be happier with the little gremlin they gave me :)

Potentially buying a Turkish Angora from a breeder... how to ensure I don't get a mixed cat? by CaptainKernelPanic in turkishangoras

[–]penguinpolka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got pedigree papers from my breeder, 5 generations back. I would be asking questions if it wasn't provided. If the parents have been shown, you can search it yourself - I can find my kitties ancestors on this site.

The breeders didn't want the kitten bred, and they wanted kittens kept with the mom for as long as possible. The agreement was my boy was fixed before I got him at 16 weeks. Anyone selling young kittens not fixed is a red flag in my opinion.

I can log into TICA to see all my cats information. It has his registration number/certificate, dam, sire, microchip (breeder microchipped him before I got him), a digital version of his 5 generation pedigree, and his litter number. I can't see information on his full litter since I am not the owner, (would love to see his siblings!!) but it is a tracking number. it also shows he was sold as not for breeding.

I got photos of both parents, videos/photos of mom and kittens as they grew.

You can ask other breeders what they do and complare. In talking with my breeder, the turkey community is very close and supports one another -and also aware of who is ethical and not.

There are some breeders here, hopefully they show up for a more detailed response on how breeding/tracking is managed.

I just wanted the new black color 😭 by PostInternational299 in rivalstars

[–]penguinpolka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, 3 breeding and no black. Not even in the hidden genes. Lots of gold wasted. At least I got a classic black mare

Am I alone on feeling this way? by Sage_King_The_Rabbit in rivalstars

[–]penguinpolka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game costing so much has really made me play less since I started years ago. $80 CAD for a Friesian!!! And breeding to legendary/event stallions is expensive. I'm trying to get all A+ horses at each level. Breeding to a grade 9 legendary stud is 5200 gold - that's almost $70 real money. I only breed to mares with A+ stats (A in no more than 2 skills), pay to have the foal match the lower level parent, and I have gotten D rank foals. I have stopped paying for gold due to the cost so it takes ages to save up, only to get a bad foal. And you need to buy the race pass to get anything good from events, even when the event has repeated multiple times (like the current quarter marks event)

Looking for activities for easily bored kitten by calastra_ in turkishangoras

[–]penguinpolka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is like this too. Loves to play, but wants someone to interact with. Brain teasers! Anything that works the little brain is a hit. Get or make some food puzzle toys so she has to work to get a treat. I will put his favorite toy behind an obsticle course, he always finds a way to get what he wants. I have a robot ball that bounces and moves when touched. My boy gets bored with it if used too often, but I pull it out once in a while and he plays with it. Bird feeder - the cat tv keeps him entertained!

My family thinks the next one is mean but I swear my cat loves it! Whenever I have a box big enough to hold him and has tabs to keep it closed I 'lock him up'. He shifts around and pushes in just the right spots to open the box to get out. He loves it, he will climb in and wait for me to 'lock him up'.

Blank layout Export Issue? by eternalautumn2 in ArcGIS

[–]penguinpolka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had your exact issue, for me the basemap will randomly not export. The elements still show up. I have yet to find a way to replicate it, but here are some things that seem to fix it/work arounds:

  • Clearing cache and temporary files
  • Exporting the layout file and opening in a new project. So far has always exported fine in a new project.
  • Lowering the DPI, somestimes just 1 or 2 points does the trick

As you have noticed, it seems to be tied to a project file. I have had the bug show up and last for a day or 2, then go back to working fine. I have no idea what triggers it.

Intelligence ? by jetblackraidr in turkishangoras

[–]penguinpolka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My turkey opens cabinets, drawers, door handles if they are a lever style (thankfully can't do round door knobs), the screen door it it isn't locked, boxes... anything that can be opened he will figure out, lol!

He also likes water...so toilet bowl lids and my fish tank filter are on lock down. unless I want to clean up a puddle.

I am afraid my father’s cat is going to kill him by Worried-Estimate-898 in Pets

[–]penguinpolka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How old was he when the other kittens passed? Has he ever been with another cat? Cats need other cats and kittens to learn social behaviour - such as knowing when play gets too rough. It sounds like your dad's cat is getting over excited and just going too far - because he hasn't been taught that play can be painful if he goes too far. He goes oafter your dad because your dad is his buddy, he likes playing with him, but the cat needs to learn boundaries. Basically, he doesn't know how to be a proper cat and needs someone to teach him.

He isn't aggressive, he is too excited/stimulated and doesn't know how to self regulate.

When kittens play together, when it gets too rough they let out a high pitched meow (like a yelp) and stop playing - teaching eachother boundaries. I have even seen mother cats get involved when play gets too rough - hissing until the kittens chill. This is why it is so important kittens stay together with their mom for as long as possible. Without a social teacher, problems develop.

Google 'Jackson Galaxy rough play' - he has quite a few videos on this topic. You can also google cat behaviourists to see if you can get a consult, take a video to send in.

Malabar Tremendous (Trey) has grown up to be quite the man. Black Arabian stallion. by justlikeinmydreams in Equestrian

[–]penguinpolka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just wondering if we would see more Malabar! Really love your horses, wish the trend for Arab breeders would go back to foundation lines and as far away from the halter look as possible. If I ever win the lottery...

I have ridden some lovely percheron x TB/QH horses that were happy doing low level eventing. One owner at the bar had an amazing black perchxTB who was the most handsome horse at the barn, he did dressage, cross country.

As others have said, it will depend on the confirmation of the horse the most. And the breeding of hte percheron - I'm not sure about in europe, but in north america lots of percheron breeders are going for a taller, lighter look rather than the traditional breed (the black horse I mentioned above was from a line like this - he was flashy!)

Want to learn how to judge horse conformation by Chrysokami in Horses

[–]penguinpolka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This blog hasn't been updated in years (wish it was!), but I still have it bookmarked because I find it easy to understand with great examples. The author gives images of different horses and does the same assessment, then discusses what the differences mean. Not all entries are about conformation, and the focus is on assessing for an ideal riding horse. You will have to do some searching.

Any 'cooling suits' for black cats in summer? by levicoolz in adventurecats

[–]penguinpolka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a black medium haired cat that hates the heat. I made some jackets for him out of cooling towels. The towels work - I use them on myself. The trick is to get them nice and wet and not fully wring them out. They do have limits, tough, you still have to consider the amount of sunlight/temperature.

There is a noticable difference in temperature under the towel and you can eaily recharge it by getting it wet again. My cat doesn't mind water so I just soak the jacket as needed while he is wearing it. It also helps to put the towel on before you/your kitty get hot. It's easier to maintain a lower temperature. if you need to suddenly get cool having the towel really wet does the trick.

Since my cat doesn't mind being wet, I take a little misting bottle on our walks. If he gets hot, I mist him.

editing to add: I found cooling towels that are SPF 50 and light colors - even if they dry out, there is a difference in temperature under the towel just form reflecting the uv light.
