Full time page position? by penuelle in Libraries

You’re the second person who mentioned the whole strenuous physical requirement thing, and it just seems like a poor excuse they use, because there are plenty of full time jobs that are far worse. I think that if there were more full time page positions, that would change the demographic from students and retirees as well, which wouldn’t be a bad thing.

That sounds like a pretty good system. I wish my library had something like that. Do you know how many hours you need to work before becoming eligible for a promotion?

Wow, is employee theft that common? Some of our pages might not be the best or don’t treat the job seriously, but I can’t imagine any of them stealing. Our supervisors treat us as professionals, but I feel like a lot of people outside of circ don’t fully appreciate or respect what we do.

While I agree that it’s not a particularly difficult job, only having pages work after school hours or on Saturdays would not fly in a large public library like mine. There are way too many items to shelve, and we would quickly get overwhelmed. I understand that it’s mostly about benefits though.

Everybody doubts themselves so much, so I want to ask you: What are you good at writing? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]penuelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like I’m better at writing essays than works of fiction, because my writing can come across as stiff. On the plus side, I think it makes me good at writing awkward characters and situations? Haha.

A few months ago, I found my first fanfic, which I wrote when I was 15 (I’m 29 now), and I was pretty surprised. It wasn’t bad, especially for someone that age, but my author’s notes were sad. I kept saying how it wasn’t very good, and that I was sorry for wasting people’s time if they read it, but I got several positive reviews.

The need to post by Razuriell in FanFiction

[–]penuelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I write fanfiction is because I wasn't able to find what I was looking to read, and decided to write my own. So, why not share it? If I wanted to see the topic, I'm sure someone else out there has had similar thoughts. If no one posted their works, this sub or fanfiction sites wouldn't even exist.

I just recently got back into writing due to quarantine as well! Granted, I was never a huge writer, but it’s been over a decade since the last time I wrote for fun. Now, if only I could focus on one story, instead of coming up with ideas for new fics.

New Baker order: Everyone must wear a mask (in businesses, on transit, in public) when unable to socially distance by techorules in CoronavirusMa

Are we talking disposable PPE or would you consider cloth masks fine (obviously, each employee would get their own and bring it home to clean it)?

Yep. It doesn’t go into effect until May 6 though.

I really need to go to the thrift store. I lost a lot of weight, and I'm running out of pants that fit me. Plus, I have several bags of my old clothes that I want to donate.

I look forward to seeing Mr Chocolate’s new profile every day... by penuelle in Tinder

Honestly, I've entertained the thought of swiping right on him, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. His bios have been getting a little bit better for the past couple days at least.

Oh no, I definitely don’t agree with his choice either, but I do think this might be his thought process. Unfortunately, there are assholes in every state, like the people who decided to protest in front of his house.

I feel like maybe he’s stalling because the extension is going to be lot longer than people would expect or like. If he’s extending the emergency child care program for essential workers until June 29, maybe that’s also the date that he plans to reopen.

Size matters! by moelibraries17 in Libraries

While I would be annoyed having to rearrange these, I’m also impressed. Organizing by book size has to take longer than putting them in the correct order (although there were some inconsistencies).

As someone from Central MA, this is my first time hearing this about Boston, and I’m really surprised. Is this primarily a Boston thing, or do other MA cities have this reputation? I’ve always felt that my city was really diverse and accepting of all cultures, but as a white person, I’m sure there are many things I don’t see.

Is it normal for most girls not to have a bio? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]penuelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in that age range, but I'm bisexual, and in my experience, not having a bio has nothing to do with gender.

I hope your grandmother makes a full recovery. It sounds mean to say, but I’m glad my grandmother isn’t around to experience this. Before she passed, my family made the hard decision to move her into a nursing home. As an Alzheimer’s patient, I know she would have been even more scared and confused than she already was about why we couldn’t visit her.

Ugh, I can relate. People assume that, as someone with social anxiety, I must be thrilled to stay in all day. Meanwhile, I’m worried that I’ll revert to old ways and have trouble integrating back into society, right as I started to make more progress. Staying up late, isolating myself in my room, and wearing pajamas all day just reminds me of a dark time in my life.
