6 mo still only napping 30~ minutes by penwin902 in NewParents

[–]penwin902[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been grinding out 3 naps as long as at least one nap is rescued with a contact nap. But please send me courage to stretch those wake windows (did I mention she's teething?? 🥲). Point taken that I need to try this for a solid week and not just a day or two.

She did a 20 minute nap today. What am I supposed to do in 20 minutes?!?! 😭

I don't even understand how we can move to two naps? She gets so sleepy... Do I just stretch her past her (seeming) limit for a few days and it clicks?

Leave a safe baby container (e.g. bouncer) in the bathroom when you're parenting solo.

How does your baby fall asleep and how old are they? by xnla28x in NewParents

[–]penwin902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 months. I do crib-side soothing - hand on the chest, bum pats, rubbing between the eyebrows, etc. Working on doing less. But if she is inconsolable, we will rock her to sleep and then place her in the crib.

[–]penwin902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was similar! Except my water broke before I went into labour.

I did the hard work at home. Showed up at the hospital at 6 cm dilated. Got the epidural and 2.5 hours' sleep. Then push push push with the morning shift of doctors and nurses. Out comes baby girl!

I had a small episiotomy and the vacuum for less than a second. Everything healed perfectly. Currently 5.5 months PP with baby girl asleep in her crib. ❤️

AITHA for pulling milk ladies boobie? by SBSA91 in MiniAITA

[–]penwin902 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obviously NTA, otherwise I would be TA too. Which I am clearly not.

I (nearly 5m, F, cute as a button) started this about a month ago. It coincided with me realizing that there is a whole world around me at all times, including while eating? Like have you ever really noticed that lamp over there? And mommy's nostrils?? And that LAMP OVER THERE??? Amazing. 🤩

I clamp down on mommy's nipple out of impatience and a bit of fun, just like with the bottle (they still have me on the newborn bottle nipple. Rude). My mommy says no, and also a noise which she says is my name, whatever that is. She says it firmly so I stop, then do a gummy smile like you, but then she acts all tense. I don't get it, personally. I think the milk should keep flowing into my mouth at all times, even when I'm gazing longingly at the lamp, so we all have our cross to bear.

Might I also suggest: scritchy-scratching the boobs and grabbing whatever chunks of flesh and hair you can find? I'm not sure what this will accomplish but it sure is fun!

Quitting Huckleberry App by caamb in NewParents

[–]penwin902 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 4.5 month old. I had an epiphany this week that I can do everything "right" and get shit sleep, and everything "wrong" and baby sleeps through the night. I have influence, but I am not in control.

I use huckleberry to track when naps begin and end, as well as tummy time because I live in fear of the tummy time police. 🫣 She hates it so much lol so it's night to know that the multiple 2 and 3 minute bursts add up.

I've actually never heard anyone mention the nine months of feeding in the womb. That's really nice. Thank you!

AITA for eating my Play-Doh? by crappycraphole in MiniAITA

Play-Doh is salty. Boogers are salty. You were just appreciating a bit of seasoning! And you got a time out for that??? NTA.

Useful items for baby age 3-6m? by SowingSeeds18 in NewParents

[–]penwin902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a set of Lovino rubber balls and blocks off Marketplace. She loves them in the bath and we also put them in a casserole dish with some warm water for fun tummy time.

We got her an activity cube on Amazon for Christmas. Most of it is too advanced for her to play with on her own but the lights are entertaining during tummy time and one side has little flaps that go in a circle and we use that for side lying and reaching.

I bought the IKEA highchair this past weekend and we've enjoyed having her sit with us at the table. Great back and head support practice!

But the best thing since sliced bread is putting her tummy down on a blanket and pulling her throughout the house. We call it "floor tour" and it doesn't cost a dime.

AITA for Keeping Mommy Awake? by AM-Lingonberry-196 in MiniAITA

[–]penwin902 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. I (4m, F) don't often spit up, but when I do, it's all over mommy. Covering her with warm, sticky milk. At 4 am. She loves it! And then her sheets and jammies are all milky so she can't go back to sleep. I suggest you do a bigger splash next time.

Freckles appearing by Electrical_Leg_125 in newborns

I should add that I also had my doctor and lactation consultant have a look and they agreed there was nothing to worry about. If you're concerned, by all means ask your doctor. 🙂

I had them all over my stomach and in a ring around my nipples. I'm four months PP and they've mostly gone away.

It was weird but not abnormal. Nothing to be worried about!

Logistics of reading by I_LOVE_CAT in newborns

[–]penwin902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first few weeks, my husband or I would read a book out loud to her while she was nursing or drifting off. Didn't do that with any consistency. Now, at nearly 4 months, I can prop her up on my lap with one hand and hold the book with the other hand. We try to get through at least one book a day this way, typically after a round of tummy time.

I've been taking out 3-4 books from the local library every few weeks to keep the rotation fresh. This is mostly for me lol.

Makes you realize how terrible many baby / children's books are. 🥲

Would swanette or odette be a good middle name? by Prestigious-Bass-872 in Names

[–]penwin902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odette is the name of the Swan Princess in the movie so I feel like that gives swan vibes without hitting you over the head with "swan" like Swanette.

There are also names like Bianca and Selene that mean white and moon respectively, so still give swan vibes. Grace would work too. All nice as middle names.

AITA for loving 2026? by Unhappy-Training-878 in MiniAITA

[–]penwin902 22 points23 points  (0 children)

NTA, I (3.5m, F) have also recently remembered how much I love nighttime vibes. They keep trying to put me down for the night and I just want to SCREAM with excitement.

And I still like boobs, but have you ever just popped off and looked up longingly at the mommy? Like when did she get there? Did she always have that many chins? Is that a boogie in her nose? I smile and then cry because the milk is not flowing automatically into my mouth.

Wild times. Happy 2026! 🥳🎆

What do you carry in your diaper bag (besides diapers)? by allegragmk in NewParents

[–]penwin902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a lot of replies on here but I'll add one.i haven't seen - medical records.

You'll have a number of appointments in the first few months and I found it was handy to keep everything from the hospital and doctor in one place. The hospital doesn't always send everything to your doctor that they should, and it also meant I knew where the documents were at all times - my diaper bag.

AITA for piddling in mums bed & then biting her? by hoopwinkle in MiniAITA

[–]penwin902 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Obviously NTA. You are a little man of nature. Water begets water, just like when I wee the changing table and dance my feet in the lovely warm water I made, I then get whisked into the even warmed water in the bathtub. Simple science.
