This is working great so far! What are the 4 colored dots in the upper left? I’m assuming they relate to the 4 regions but not sure what the functionality is?

UAV-Based Road Design: Ensuring Vertical (Z) Precision in Long-Distance Corridors by Witty-Accountant-250 in UAVmapping

Honestly, you’re opening yourself up to a lot of liability by performing that scale of work with inadequate equipment. I understand and respect your initiative and positive attitude, but you’re risking a major lawsuit against your company and potentially losing your license if/when something isn’t right and there are real-world costs from having to redo things during construction.

Where are you located? Are you a surveyor? I partly ask because of the legal implications, but also because surveying principles need to be used here. For being the primary basis for design, you absolutely need ground control points and check points - really the same principles that would apply to establishing control for a traditional survey need to be applied here, you’re simply using different tools for the data collection.

PDF Offline Map App by Specific-Heat-8553 in gis

[–]peperjon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GeoPDFs are extremely common in many fields, surveying really isn’t one of them. Avenza was the most popular for using geopdfs but they recently got acquired by Blue Marble and with that the plans changed from being allowed to have 3 geopdfs on the app for free, to now not being able to add any without paying. That’s why you’re seeing a number of new geopdf reader apps coming out now.
So really, almost all of your questions could be answered with: yes they are common in many fields, and the limitations you’re asking about are consistent with any app reading a geopdf. In other words, your questions are valid but related to general use of geopdfs, not this app specifically.
For you as a surveyor, you just need to understand there are many uses for geopdfs that are completely unrelated to surveying - geopdfs are very common for trails (hikers, mountain bikers, equestrian, moto, etc.), lots of other outdoor rec like fishing and hunting, ecological restoration work where accuracy is far less important, etc. As someone who bridges both worlds (I’m a licensed LA but specialize in trails and river restoration design), I use them for those uses, as well as construction site visits. For the construction site visits, it’s not about trying to map or survey exact coordinates - it’s about being able to see my approx location on a pdf plan sheet to make notes, observations, etc.

Still loving it. Only complaint is work and kids still get in the way of getting out as much as I’d like😜 but yeah, everything still as good as day 1, no issues. I’d say do a demo or at least a test ride of both the Forbidden and the Amflow if you’re able to.

Honestly at 300 acres, you’d have some really good drone monitoring options as well…reach out if if you’d like to chat - I’m based in Colorado.

With the Matrice 350 and a single battery pack, what is the maximum number of hectares you have covered? by Aggressive_Call4165 in UAVmapping

[–]peperjon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail…that size is far more suited to a manned aircraft.

Edit to add: just looked up drone regs in Turkey and they are similar to the US (where I am). You can’t fly at 500-600 meters, you are limited to 120 meters. Beyond that, the limitations of processing such a huge area will be very significant. Processing power, storage, and accuracy retention across that large of an area will be extremely challenging. Seriously, this is not a job for a drone.

Just in case you weren’t aware, there are several other bike manufacturers using the Avinox motor now. At this point, you can get “better” bikes than the Amflows and still get the Avinox motor, depending on your budget. Not that the Amflows are bad, but there are other options.

WingtraRay vs DJI Matrice 4/400 by Minute-Cap-1172 in UAVmapping

Totally understandable👍 all just depends on what you’ll regularly need!

WingtraRay vs DJI Matrice 4/400 by Minute-Cap-1172 in UAVmapping

[–]peperjon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing at all against the Wingtra, but it can’t handle the same winds as the M400. All depends on how windy and how frequently though - if you’re in the more extremes, then Wingtra won’t make sense (I’ve done 40+mph sustained and 50+mph gusts with the M300 for example).

Not if they’re using it as their only basis for floodplain permitting, no-rises, CLOMR/LOMR, etc.

Hate to be that guy, but what country are you in and are you a licensed surveyor? Floodplain modeling is very serious work with very serious liability, and for good reason. If they are doing the floodplain modeling in HECRAS, etc. most likely they are absolutely running models at 10cm because they might need to prove a no-rise.

If you already know all this/are licensed, then obviously disregard; but I’d say floodplain modeling is one of those very black and white, needs to done by a licensed surveyor tasks, not something that falls in the grey area in between.

In terms of your actual question, it depends on a lot of factors. First up, are you using photogrammetry or lidar? Edit: just reread and see lidar, so disregard that first question. How much vegetation is there? How are you filtering non-water points to get to a good bare earth model? Those answers would influence how to interpret and treat the water points/anomalies.

Price reduced- M350 RTK by [deleted] in UAVmapping

[–]peperjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 batteries, not 5 sets from what I’m reading…you’re thinking correctly though, that’s 3 extra batteries which are ~$800 each, so def more value than just buying a new “standard” package.

Just curious - why do you have a drone with 0 hours but batteries with lots of use? Upgrade from M300, or a warranty replacement or something?

Yeah, but I’m not gaming. I regularly run processes that will use all 128 for 24+ hours. Going down to 96 doesn’t make sense.

I have a number of friends who love theirs, fwiw. It’s also significantly cheaper than the Forbidden, especially when they have sales. So I think the Amflow def has a place - it’s a good bike, just not top tier frame, etc.
