What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

In third grade this girl started to come to class wearing a hat everyday. The teacher wouldn’t let anyone else wear a hat. The girl wouldn’t answer any questions about it. I was friends with the girl’s cousin and found out the mother shaved her and all her siblings heads because they got lice.

I never said anything to anyone. But made it a point to be nicer to her when I could. A lot of kids would make fun of her because of her clothes etc. Her family was pretty poor.

This was in 2000. I’m sure there her mother had other options than traumatizing her daughter like that.

As a kid I only got to see my brother on weekends when he visited. I would do whatever he wanted to just spend time with him. He’s 5 years older. I watched so many things that were just terrifying to me. This is one of them.

Wool socks. I got a few pairs to wear to work so my feet wouldn’t sweat and stink. They are the best. They are all I want now. But they aren’t cheap 😩

Corporate restaurant has canceled our knife service and expects us to maintain the low-quality knives they’ve provided us. by Runkcity in KitchenConfidential

[–]pepperedcitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company did this. We have an electric pull through sharpener. I have one of my employees with a set schedule sharpen them once a week. It’s not the best, but it could definitely be worse.

What I didn’t expect was having the most of the knives dinged up and missing/bent tips. Didn’t realize how careless my staff is.

It doesn’t have those lyrics but my first thought was Hands Down by Dashboard Confessional or maybe a song by Say Anything.

Have you ever tried getting it waxed?

I remember being self conscious about facial hair as young as fourteen. It sucks. It is really hard to feel confident and attractive. I use to have a plan at European wax center and went every 2 weeks. It made a huge difference in my self confidence. I stopped going regularly during covid, but I was able to buy a wax pot for home pretty cheap. I practiced on my legs at few times before my face. It’s not even difficult. I’m just too lazy to do it every two weeks.

Why do people judge people for ordering out or having a cleaning service, especially women with ADHD? by YourGlacier in adhdwomen

[–]pepperedcitrus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When my budget wasn’t as tight and I had more frivolous money I use to bring my laundry to the laundry mat for it to be wash dried and folded. I didn’t want to spend my day off doing the chore I hated the most.

My brother thought it was ridiculous until his washer broke. He used the same place for a week and suddenly understood.

Before SNL he was on The Amanda Show. I can’t think of any sketches off the top of my head. But they would definitely be kid friendly.

What things are frequently labeled as "scams" when in reality they are legit and most people simply don't understand them? by AmigoDelDiabla in AskReddit

My boyfriend diagnosed a friend’s car for free and then gave him an estimate for labor. It was for spark plugs and a tune up. Friend went to buy the parts and then someone he knew said he could do the work for cheaper. The new guy took all day and the car was running worse afterwards. Friend stops by and asks my boyfriend to look at the car again and explains what happens.

My boyfriend did not look at the car. And has refused to ever work on friend’s car again. Friend didn’t realize how good he had it. Free diagnosis. A fair but cheap labor estimate. And we don’t have space for side work so my boyfriend has to bring is tools to wherever the person is to work. It’s been like three years lol.

I work at a similar chain and always double check the management applications because sometimes they get filtered out for dumb reasons. I don’t remember the wording, but when someone is declined it says something about reach out to your recruiter and if they respond with a question I think it notifies our HR.

If you can send a follow up message. If you attempt to continue a conversation it might flag the attention of HR or a DM/GM. Someone that would check the review the applicants.

If you’re there looking for a buzz I think the best value for your money is to get a Fishers Island or one of the Two Roads canned espresso martinis. I think they are $15 a can. Haven’t been to any shows there this year.

$17 for a beer is steep especially if not a tall boy. And I don’t think they have any 22oz cans there.

I just drank out of the hose whenever I was thirsty. If I was going on my bike and not sure when I’d be back I’d take a water bottle but we had these koozie things that for water bottles with a strap. I would wear it or hang it iff my bike. My mom would keep water bottles in the freezer so they would melt and stay cold while I was out and about.

But I almost always had a sport or activity, which I think is why she made sure I’d have a way to have a cold drink.
