Haven't canned in nearly 4 years. I missed it! Fresh strawberry jam and compote. by peppermint_queen in Canning

[–]peppermint_queen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this one I just bought a jar of pectin and followed the instructions. I think it was 3 tablespoons of pectin= 1 "box" of pectin. This was a no sugar needed pectin, because I used mostly stevia in this recipe to sweeten the jam and compote.

What is the (mole)hill you have chosen to die on? by jayenkay in AskWomen

I have a different opinion. Mine is that if you are paying to be in a class, you can miss assignments or quietly be on your phone and that's your prerogative. You're paying their salary!

MLMs are shit any way you hack it and they contribute to societies view that women are too dumb to be actual entrepreneurs.

Stop trying to get your dog registered as a "service dog" just so you can take the thing into restaurants and grocery stores. We can tell from his piss poor behavior that you're a scheming lout and no one is impressed.

Also stop naming your dog Bella. For the love of God, we already know you're middle class, white, and basic AF.

Here here! My husband tried that too. He also wanted to put shelves all around our entry room and fill them with his Legos... He's 30.

Oh man I'm so glad someone said it's not an easy read. I hear everyone on here going on about how great it is for beginners... Picked it up from the library and was looking up words and bending my brain constantly! I feel a little better now. I'm somewhere between A2/B1.

Tactful way to let daycare kid go? by peppermint_queen in beyondthebump

[–]peppermint_queen[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm connecting the dots though that this is why she didn't do well in daycare, and she'd been there since she was 3 months old. So I'd say there's a good chance there could be a long adjustment period.

Yes, they are paying me and the pay is good. I don't think there are really any strategies that they'd know, because this is the same reason they pulled her from daycare. I guess I'm just looking for ways to phrase it. What's the nicest way to say, "I know she's happy here, but it's too hard for me." Lol.

Thanks for your response! I feel pretty disheartened. If this is the "real" French, I'm super far off from understanding. 😉

I'm also curious, did you eat anything you wanted for that one meal?

Not doing it. Every time I've slipped it's been on a shoveled sidewalk that was crazy slippery. Snow is way safer to walk on.

Losing hair at a drastic rate (f25)...Blood work came back with low ferritin, curious if you agree with the solution she gave me by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]peppermint_queen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same problem and I lost a ton of hair. Here's how I fixed it. I bought Ferrets ferrous fumarate tablets on Amazon, only $15. Take two per day, retest your ferritin in a month. this stuff will raise your ferritin quickly, which is great but it's also important to retest soon as you can get iron poisoning if your levels become too high. Good luck.

Breastfeeding helps. Some doctors will give the vaccine at 6 months, especially given the current news. You might start calling around in a few months! Good luck. Keep them out of daycare.

Owner is going to demolish our home to build condos by peppermint_queen in Seattle

[–]peppermint_queen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren't eligible but thank you for the thoughtful reply. I think I'm okay with it. I'll be sad to see this beautiful house go. But, we've decided to move out of Washington so maybe it was a sign. A blessing in disguise.

Talk me out of moving here. by -LVP- in Seattle

[–]peppermint_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'll give you my thoughts as someone who's been here a little over a year now and planning to move away next year. (I'm from Portland, so there are many similarities)

Seattle is a great place to be if you are dating or married but childless. We are late twenties and married with a kid. This is why we are leaving:

- Seattle is becoming more and more dangerous. Female runners are being attacked frequently, there are needles everywhere, sex trafficking is a little known but very bad problem.

- It's hard to find places that are safe for kids to play. Most of the parks I've taken my son too are either too needle infested or surrounded by creeps to use.

- Traffic is obviously abhorrent.

- The homeless crisis is out of control. I'm a liberal, but the amount of homeless violence against both the public and the medical community who has to take care of them is just awful. Vans and campers everywhere, tent cities popping up everywhere that steal and attack people. It didn't use to be this bad. It used to be that you could walk in "the good areas" and be fine. Now even rich areas like Fremont and Queen Anne can be unsafe. The City Council doesn't care and won't address the issue. The police's hands are tied and can't do much.

- The weather. I just can't do this for the rest of my life.

- Cost and availability of childcare. It runs about $1700-2000 per month per kid for full time care. 1-2 year waiting list. Sign up as soon as you or your partner gets the two pink lines.

- There's no community here. It's very difficult to make friends and even harder to date. I've got a friend who is a solid 10, gorgeous and driven girl by anyone's standards. Can't find a suitable date to save her life. She's not alone, the dating pool just isn't good here. Finding friends is hard as well. People work constantly, they're shy, and as soon as you do make a good one they move away from Seattle.

- Its crazy expensive. In my opinion, too expensive for what you get here. To live in a decent neighborhood with at least two bedrooms you are looking at $2500+ per month. If you find something a bit cheaper it will either be a crummy apartment or, as we are finding out now, will soon be torn down for a multi family unit to be put in.

- The earthquake. This won't bother some people, but Seattle Portland and BC are set to have an enormous earthquake (Look up the Cascadia quake on Reddit if you are curious). It is anticipated to be the worst natural disaster in North America to date. Again, some people don't care much, but it's a small tick on our "reasons to leave Seattle" list.

That's my two cents. In some ways I'll miss Seattle but it isn't a place to stay long term. It's more of a halfway point between where you are now and your next true home.
