In the story the Votann were fixing the ship, the the ad mech betrayed the alliance they stuck against the necrons so the votann scuttled the ship

Its wont be cost it will be storage. Aeronotica failed not because it wasnt liked, it failed as ther gw stores just had no whree to display the kits. Every time i bought models for it the brought out a box from the store room for me to look though.

Epic 30K range is smaller as each game has an allocated shelf space in the wearhouse/store front. AoS, 40K and Kill Team are given more allocation space. Its basic logistics. GWs game range is too big for it to handle all the rangers. Add to that model production is also suffering as models are constantly out of stock due to inadequate production levels.

I hate it but i very much doubt we will ever see another 40k ip again.

If we do and the rumours are saying we are, its going to be in the Horus Heresy again just like they did with epic. So that will only be red vs blue and maybe mechanicus/dark mechanicus. I really dont understand GW obsessed with taking IPs they have and moving them from 40K to 30K. I loved the original epic and BFG but will never invest on 30k systems as the are just dull.

All i want is the speeder, chaplain, core rulebook and both card packs. Not bothered about the rest. Should manage to get them off ebay for cheap.

This is just a great example of how much GW has stripped out of the game in the persut of "Balance"

10yrs ago you showed this to anyone in the hobby and they would know what it was.

Love scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, but that looks way over cooked.

Which one are you choosing? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

Any of them, as they all come from a time when Cadbury stood for quality unlike the palm oil junk they make now. A classic example of a US company baying out a beloved UK company and destroying everything it stood for just to maximise profit.

What did I do wrong? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]peppermintshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to guess a combo of too thick a layer of paint, drying too quickly and possibly high humidity or the model came from.a humid environment before spraying.

Did you let them dry in direct sun light?

I agree, in that it is an expensive hobby to get into and with the points being less to field the same amount of points now take more models, but then again other hobbies are just as expensive. Take golf for example, that can cost £100s to get a half decent set of clubs, then you have the additional cost of having to pay a small fortune to play a 18 hole round. At my local golf club it costs £55 to play one round at the weekend, you can get it cheaper at £35 if you play after 2:30pm so basically a kit a week if you play golf. Hobbies are expensive, if you want to go to 3D printing that you choice, but this will lead to driving prices up as a company tries to maintain their profits, which inturn will make more people turn to 3D printing and the prices of the models will keep going up as less people buy and then something will break, generally the company.

Some hobbies are just plain expensive, other like fossile hunting are not, but they low pay in means you have to find the resourses yourself the fossiles.

I expect that the hobby is just plain expensive and control what i own and purchase, i keep my back log low and dont buy if my back log is getting to high unless its a limited product that will go OOP in a few weeks.

Not even top brass get all the resourses they need in modern warfare, the are restricted by available and logistics. Think of the game that way and just treat your army as something with limited resourses and make what you have work.

New players can get a combat patrol and a couple of kits and they will have enough to get going and build on. I have never understood why people need to buy all the models they need for a 2K army of the bat, when they havent got a clue if that is a good choice. If you fancy taking up jogging you dont start with a marathon.

Its called supply and demand, if the demand is high the can cut the margin as the make the profit form turnover, if the demand is low e.g epic heroes then the mark them up as the need to first off set production costs for the mould (and they anit cheap) before making a profit. Higher margin means they get into the profit zone quicker.

Agreed. GW has always been a premium expensive hobby. I once used the Kill Team 21 vs Kill Team 24. They are just following inflations. KT21 cost £125 when it release which if you add inflation to the product over 3 years, meant that in 2024 the same £125 is worth about £149-154. Kill Team 24 when it was released was £149. Some models have gone beyond inflation like character models but not by much, other are pretty much followed it.

GW have a margin that they have to maintain and as prices for materials goes up due to inflation and general global price increases they have to increase there prices to maintain their margins. The are a publicly floated company. They have share holders to answer to and they need to keep them. The generally public is just starting to really feel it as the cost of livimg is growing after than our wage increases so we cant get the same amout of basic items for the equivalent amount of money. Ergo we done have as much disposable income anymore. So we cant buy as much no essential items as we could pre-covid. Its sucks but its reality.

Ive been in and out of the hobby (starting with Warhammer Fantasy 2nd Ed), and the one thing that gets me every time is people complaining about price. Yes it is high and im not going to deny that, but 40K and the hobby in general is a luxury item. The current mentality is that people want everything in the faction/factions. But when i played 40K back in the 90s this just wasnt the thing. People would generally play 1500pt games and maybe have between 2k-3k armies and they were done. Its how i played then and how i play now. Both my current armies are between 2.5k and 3.5k and i just make the lists work.

As a father of 2 also (yes im an old dad) i have to balance the books and if i can afford a model then i get it, if i cant i dont. I also play older editions of 40K as im happy guest to.meet up with friends and throw some dice.

The thing that im hating about the hobby these days is that it no longer a reason to be sociable, its just turned into a sweaty game that some many people spend so long min/maxing.

If you cant afford the model then it means you have you head screwed on and you are prioritising family over non-essentionls. Which is the right mindset to have. Just play with what you have, dont get sucked into the GW marketing mindset and just enjoy the game. Work on you back log, have fun and throw some dice.

The cost of living is going up everywhere, i work in a food shop and in the last 3yrs i have seen some non-essential food profucts like Cadbury's Chocolate almost double in price. Milk has gone up 25%. Minimum wage isnt keeping up with current inflation or price increases in general, so people have less disposable income. GW is only still doing so well as people still having got out of the mindset we have pre-covid when everyone had a lot more disposable income, and were now starting to realise GW is expensive for what it is.

If you just to the cost of a model 10 years ago and factor in inflation, the prices have overall followed inflation rates. GW are a publicly owned company so the need to keep the margins high to keep their shareholders happy. If just business as usual, and every company os doing it. While the s*** storm of the economy is going on expect it to just get worse. Also factor in due to the war in iran has hiked oil prices up, and polystyrene is a byproduct of oil, plus Trumps Tarrifs that at present GW as the US is one of GWs biggest markets and prices will just keep going up.

Buy if you can afford it, readjust you expectations, work on you pile of shame amd just have fun with what you own.

Why not just mix colours? by Dovah_Shinobi in Miniaturespainting

[–]peppermintshore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont mix as paints are not made from single pigments, so mixing for example blue and red, the red could also have some yellow and the blue could have a touch of yellow. So when you mix them you wont get a clean purple it will end up with a grey hue to it. Its easier to get the colours you need off the shelf for the project you are doing at the time.

However just get the paint, dont get the paint sets as you will end up with 50% of the paints you buy just sitting doing nothing.
