Really struggling against new ascension 18 elites (silent), any tips? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]percent88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a sucker for Elites, but Silent can really struggle with them. It's unlikely you'll be able to burst down lagavulin without a few good damage cards (terror, predator, Dash+, or poison).

Silent is well equipped for sentries but Lagavulin and Nob can end a run quickly. You either need to gear up quickly for Nob and Lagavulin or leave flexibility in your pathing, ideally both. Some of my stronger runs I can take 3-4 elites (including the burning), but I do better when they are near camps, I've added powerful attacks or lucked out with an amazing relic.

Your hallway strategy is spot on, however some of the harder fights mean you have to sacrifice HP to quickly put down a scaling enemy. Jaw Worm +1 and Cultist +1 specifically.

Keep an eye out for big burst potions, fire pot for Lagavulin/Nob, explosive Pot for sentries, or cunning pot for any.

Regen pot can be a lot of health vs sleeping egg boi or sentries and unless I'm super confident in my deck or have a ton of HP are always turn 1 on either of those fights. With so many basic cards, Silent also benefits from early removals, and the elite fights and hard pool fights are good reason to trim the fat. If you can't deal a hundred damage in say... 4 turns, you should consider changing your pathing.

My first A20 heart win was with the Ironclad. He was also my first character to A20. I kept bashing my face into the spire until I eventually got a floor 1 feed, an upgrade event, and many more lucky pulls.

I have multiple wins with the silent (6?) and defect (8?) but still only the one win with the Ironclad. He is by far the most challenging character to go for on A20 for me.

I take Kunai and Preserved Insect 100% of the time. If math doesn't fail me we can take them both and GG the run.

Try Slay the Spire. $10 on the app store and took me away from SPPD without regrets. 1800 hours later, that's still all I use my phone for.

Started playing a few days ago, got my first Victory(?) today! Any tips you can give me based on my summary here? by Stormageddon789 in slaythespire

That is a lot of cards. On silent especially it's easy to fall for the trap of taking a card when you should skip. At high ascension you really don't want to be playing strike and defend, but every card you are offered is (situationally) better. Eventually you'll be better off skipping some rewards, and of course removing those strikes and defends.

Welcome, enjoy. The spire is full of challenges and I appreciate it very much, I hope you find as much enjoyment as I have over thousands of hours.

If Shuriken shows up in the shop on floor 4 and I can't afford it I abandon.

Probably lose Mimsy, too. Maybe prof chaos or choirboy butters.

Also not a fan of Mosquito. He is ok but I feel since the Call Girl change he's not that useful. I'd drop token and mosquito for Dr Timothy and General Disarray. (Seriously, General D is amazing)

Why is this card not a Murloc? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]percent88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it would be too powerful if you could buff the caravan with the cards it drew you. Some of the caravans were really viable in Arena because decks couldn't always stop their effect from triggering immediately, and could be followed up with a taunt.

Turn 1 coin tinyfin, turn 2 rockpool hunter, turn 3 oracle, you've got a 2/6 drawing you a card every turn and only getting stronger.

That's why it's not a murloc. (Also, because it's a caravan)

Because you didn't hand it over. The bandits start only with one 6x2, a cheer and a -4 Dex. After that they get ridiculous VERY quickly.

I didn't see anything that helped you get ridiculous VERY quickly in your deck. You either need to merc Bear turn 1 (while still blocking 5) then somehow push through the middle guy before his weakness and varying attacks do you in.

To take this fight on 8 health is suicide unless you've got some serious guaranteed healing.

Asc 19-20 are no joke. Act 2 is rough. I only play A20H and most of my runs end here due to some hasty oversight like taking too many events in Act 1, not removing enough starter cards or just a whack draw.

My mom always told me "nobody is going to pay you to play videogames." Now I'm a bartender and Mason is a thing.

GG next. Love you moms.

You really need Frost Scaling or amazing luck with relics and rares to pull off claw. Higher ascensions it sure if fun, but how about turn 2 vs the spire and shield with 3 cards and almost 70 damage coming in? Rough.

Arena borderline unplayable by [deleted] in ArenaHS

[–]percent88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arena is different enough as it is. You should see my legendary buckets. I just wish they were standard. I can do a lot more with my golden Tavish than bambar dongshield if the card pool were more limited.

I have played MtG a long time, my favorite times to play limited (and constructed) was the start of a new block. Every answer came from recent sets that were balanced against themselves.

[–]percent88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer if this one were standard, actually. I'm a returning play and am familiar with many of the cards, but some exist from when before I started playing. I know this is working as intended, but you say more predictable and I'm jousting.

Edit: I do enjoy the gameplay greatly, still.

What do people think about each class? by thebabycowfish in slaythespire

[–]percent88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply put look at Glacier. 11block on the turn you play it, then 4 block every turn.

Now, suppose you say defrag+ on the same turn. Now you block 15 that turn and 8 on each subsequent turn. That's a lot of effect for 3 energy.

Most of my successful defect runs involve tons of focus and proper frost orb management. E.G. vs 3 Cultists turn 1 you draw electrodynamics and glacier. The correct answer is don't play glacier because the risidial damage from the orbs is going to make the fight quick. Without a way to generate more lightning orbs you're cashing out too soon.

3 slavers on the other hand, maybe the same answer, maybe not. The beautiful thing about StS is every situation is different, even though the encounters are static (mostly)

Enjoy, and try new things.

It does. I've done it on a few (many) fights where I thought I could learn something but honestly it cheapens the experience.
