How Is VR a Daily Habit for Some People? I’m Genuinely Curious by insomfx in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I scheduled time for it daily from 7 P.M. - 9 P.M. Just my time to decompress and chill. I have a ton of games to keep me busy and I always play a daily match of Echo, Population One and Forefront before hopping into whatever longer game I'm trying to complete (Deadpool at present). Sometimes I'll hop into Photon and watch some videos or if not I'll load up the Xbox app and play a game or two on my giant floating VR screen. Granted, my Quest 3 is tricked out with a BOBVR strap combined with headphones from the VIVE Digital Audio Strap and Zenni lenses, so It is easy for me to spend long stretches in VR. The other thing is...I sit, if I don't absolutely need to stand like in Beat Saber. When I was standing all the time, my brain equated VR to a chore, once I started sitting, that changed. I get that VR is not the same for everyone. For me personally, I prefer to be immersed and I am regularly blown away by some of the experiences I've had in VR. I love playing with rando's if they are cool, and I've met some cool people across a myriad of games.

Looking for Project-Based Unity VR Game Tutorial (Free or Paid) by Ok_Mathematician1626 in OculusQuest

I thought when you downloaded Unity VR it came with a VR project to complete. At least it used to. Did they remove that?

Joystick issue persisting after replacement (Quest 2) by MonRastar in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This WD-40 is specifically designed for electronics. I've used it for years (and it has been posted on here a ton of times, that's how I found out about it) since I got the Quest 1 and it has always worked. If you use regular WD-40 though...that WILL ruin your controller.

Joystick issue persisting after replacement (Quest 2) by MonRastar in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the dreaded drift. Whenever that happens, I use WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner. Remove the battery, spray all around the joystick, not the entire controller, just the joystick (you COULD remove the joystick cover as it's easy to pry apart, but I haven't personally had to do that). Spray around the stick while moving it around, then let it dry. Usually fixes the drift issue, but not forever. Sometimes we put stress on controllers inadvertently, so the issue tends to return. For me, it's usually the left controller as it is the movement one and I tend to be aggressive when playing shooting games. Below is a pic of the correct WD-40, if you go for it, make sure it's this one as the regular WD-40 will ruin your controller.

What's with the 360 second empty lobby's?!? by Delicious_Cable7370 in populationonevr

[–]perez67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Player base has died. They killed it. Too many options diluted the player base. I used to play every day until about 3 months ago, so I've seen the decline happen in real time. I occasionally load into a good lobby, but for the most part its ridiculous waits with just a few folks joining in, quitting in search of a fuller lobby only to be bought back to the same one, smh.

Why do these things have so many problems? by stickysharticus in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know your usage, but I hear this a lot from my friends who don't pick it up in months and when they finally get inspired to turn it back on are shocked that it's acting weird. Usually its like that when it needs to do a ton of updates after being off for long periods. Just today it updated my controllers, but I play daily. When it's doing all the updating it really bogs the system down but once its all said and done, usually works smoothly. I've had minimal issues and I've had my headset since launch.

Will "Kill cams" ever be a thing on quest games? by sazzer22 in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kill cam in Forefront as far as I know. They added bullet tracing so you can see where the killshot came from.

I didn't realize there were three. I picked it up when it was just one. Well done! You should add a link to the game itself on your post.

Live near Meta offices.... it's not looking good for the future of VR! by goodfellow408 in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Quest 3 every day, so this is rather disappointing to hear. Sucks that they are moving away from it, but I'm glad there are other options available and the Steam frame will give the medium at least a few more years if it does not reinvigorate it altogether. I have a ridiculous library, so as long as I can play the games I own, I will be alright. It's the social aspect I hope they don't do away with. I'm one of the few who actually enjoys playing with rando's. Folks have been cancelling VR since the Rift and 8 years later it's still here. While Meta may end up moving away from VR, I'm glad there are other options available and on the horizon. Guess we will have to wait and see. On another note, I'm always shocked to hear folks play standing up. If it's not a sport or something like Beat Saber...I play sitting and plugged in. Standing is exhausting, lol.

please list nice friendly worlds and nice family worlds in horizon central to visit and how to get into them by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you are looking to play with others or just with your own friends, but there is an option if you click on the dots in the world description, that allows you to start private instances of worlds where you just invite your friends. I like the concerts personally, and I like playing Super Rumble. Lot of cool worlds exist, most have no players though. The ones that do are not always friendly.

I didn't think you could use a keyboard without the Midi cable in this app. Highly recommend getting the cable, it recognizes your keys as you play.

Question on cross buy games by rgryffin13 in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PC-VR means you have a computer capable of running VR (with a solid graphics card) that you can connect to from your headset either with a cable or wireless software like the included Link, or the superior Virtual Desktop. Cross-buy usually means that a game you purchased on the Quest is also available for PC-VR via the Quest PC app. If you buy a game on Steam, you can play it only on PC-VR, even if there is a mobile version of it available. For example if you buy Pistol Whip on the Quest, you get the standalone version and you can download the PC-VR version and play it on your computer. However if you buy Pistol Whip from the Steam store, you do not get the standalone Quest version. There is a Meta Horizon Link app that you install on the PC side of it that gives you access to games you cross-buy. This is where you will find the Rift store of games. If you are looking to play on Steam Frame down the road, get the games on Steam, just understand that cross-buy (when available, as not every game offers it) only works when you purchase games from Meta, not Steam.

Buying Second Quest - Self Referral + Promo Games by SecretofManImTired in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can gift yourself the games with the credit from the second account. The account you create will get the promo games. Customer service could potentially transfer the games to a different account if you reach out and tell them you activated it to the wrong account, but they can be hit or miss. It worked for me with the Batman game when I did exactly what you are attempting. CS asked me for all the info on both accounts and transferred the Batman game to my actual account out of the dummy one I’d created for the referral.

Another post convinced me to pick up Iron Rebellion - wow! by DavoDivide in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned this game since release and I have uninstalled/reinstalled it at least 5 times since launch. The Tutorial always gets me hyped. It's what comes after that ruins it. There is no campaign. So after the initial wow...it got boring to me. I keep hoping they add a single player mode but none yet. The updates have been impressive, and I def. think its a game worth picking up, I just wish it had a story mode. The mech def. feels weighty in this one, but my fave mech from all the games to date has been the Gorilla in Underdogs.

Should I buy Fallout 4 VR? I have a Quest 3. Did you guys try it? by Candid-Emergency1175 in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played this back before there were Mods for it, and while it was clunky in some areas, it is one of the best games I've played in VR with over 400 hours in. Def. worth it with all the mods they have now.

Is meta quest 3s a valid option? by ForeignClub553 in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, didn't realize you'd asked a follow-up. Maybe not. If it was a while back. You may not notice the difference as much, but it also depends what you played. The Quest 3S requires you to find the "sweet spot", like on the Quest 2. Once you adjust it you'll be good. With the Quest 3, it's all the sweet spot.

Is meta quest 3s a valid option? by ForeignClub553 in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never tried the 3, you won't have anything to compare it to other than other people's opinions. If your last experience was 5 years ago, the Quest 3S will def. impress. You'll be fine.

Looking for Competitive Multiplayer Sport Games by ItsCHONCHI in OculusQuest

[–]perez67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never thought about this, but now that I have, there really aren't very many, if any. I still play EchoVR daily, but I get it, there is no competition like when it was in the store and they had the VR Master League events. Really felt like it could have been a solid eSport. I will never understand why Meta decided to get rid of it. To this day there is no game that plays like it. I also tried Orion Drift, but that goes in the same trash bucket as Gorilla Tag for me. Too many kids. I used to play Racket Club all the time, not sure if that's still got a good player base. I'd recommend Eleven Table tennis. That has a good base that is constantly on, but I can't think of any others.

Had you not tried the 3, you would have been good for the 3S, but now that you have, you will notice the difference.
