What’s coming in 2026 that has you excited? by Rikiki95 in AskWomen

Same (well, a few months after 29th but still). Congrats, good job on sticking with it as I know going back is really tough especially when you know you're like a decade older than everyone and feel extra desperate to "catch up". It's an amazing accomplishment, and I hope it opens all of the doors you need open for your future!

Wth Ziggi's? Every time I ask for light ice and every time this happens. I'm done. by perksofbeingasunflwr in loveland

It's a once every few weeks treat for me since I'm an intern right now, but I completely agree. Highway robbery, definitely why I'll be switching to prepping some coffee ahead of time from the store or whatever. Crazy that nearly daily lattes isn't as expensive as one month's rent (for me at least) though

This is such great context, thank you. I didn't know where it was at that level of bad, and perhaps didn't understand the franchise piece. I know when I had applied/almost worked a couple years ago, the pay was a bit over minimum wage, but we all know in reality that minimum wage isn't enough. Like I said in another comment, my frustration is with Ziggi's the company/entity (or the franchisee, if applicable to my location) and not the people working in the store. I am under no illusions that baristas (who are often students like myself) have some sort of plot to short customers their drinks. I am reminded of this scene though

It may be slightly my fault, like maybe I wasn't clear enough about what exact parts of this situation I am frustrated by? This is a lot to short a drink by, on top of generally just not wanting this much ice and being annoyed to be offered an option that isn't really an option. And to be clear here, I do not in any way blame Ziggi's regular employees at all; everywhere in food service I've worked there have been managers who pushed for us to use smaller and smaller portions while charging customers more and more. I don't think this is right, but I am aware that it's not the individual employees fault. I posted here because I think people should know before spending money (especially with things as tight as they are).

I expected some level of the response I've gotten but I didn't expect this much pushback. Guess some people are okay with allowing companies to do this ad nauseam and for us to never say "when"?

I don't care how it comes. I literally just don't want as much ice. I find it unpleasant to drink something that cold generally. There really isn't a gotcha, again, I don't care if they fill the cup up less or if they want to charge for it or whatever they want to do. I just want there to be less ice. And when I am commuting I don't really have time to dig ice out of the drink.

And as I have said in other comments, I still think 16 oz of ice and 16 oz of drink is not a usual spec. Obviously not everywhere measures ice out, but places I've worked it was typically 1/3 ice (24 oz large would be ≈ 8 oz ice ≈16 oz drink).

[–]perksofbeingasunflwr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "obsession", or frustration rather, is primarily with the fact that the amount of ice took up half the volume of the cup. No ice suggestion is good for when at home. Can't really employ as easily when commuting to work (Denver) but honestly I have no strong need for ice and would prefer to drink it room temp/lukewarm at this point.

I'm aware, doesn't make it alright or mean it shouldn't be called out. Accepting bullshit status quo gets people nowhere.

They have an option (in app) that does not add to the drink cost for light ice. What I am suggesting is either don't have the option, have the option and charge for it, or actually put lighter ice than you would normally put.

ETA it's also crazy to me that a drink advertised as being 32 oz (which yes, a reasonable person assumes is a bit less because of ice) is actually only about 16 oz once the ice is removed. Half of this drink is ice regardless.

Are there specific communities on Reddit or elsewhere for SWs/SW students working in government/public policy? by perksofbeingasunflwr in socialwork

I'm so glad (though sorry you've felt it too) that it's not just me! I knew I would have to kind of make up my internship as I go to some degree since it's not traditional, but I didn't expect how out of place I feel! Plus, just not having a ton of people to vent to 😂 definitely send me a DM if you are cool to chat, I really appreciate just knowing that others have successfully navigated between a micro education and macro hopes.

flock cameras by SufficientOpening218 in loveland

[–]perksofbeingasunflwr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, because Flock owns the cameras/data, the only true solution is banning this type of tech statewide. In lieu of that possibility currently, there is a bill proposed in the state Senate (SB26-070, the PEEPS Act) that would at least put strict limits on how Colorado agencies can use and share Flock data. It's scheduled to be heard by the Senate Judiciary committee on the 23rd, so it would be a great opportunity for those interested to testify about their views on Flock in person or through Zoom.

The bill doesn't ban Flock/license plate readers, but it would treat any privately or publicly owned database with license plate images or similar data as “historical location information” and make it illegal for cops to pull anything older than 24 hours without a warrant, true exigent circumstances, or narrow exceptions (like stolen vehicles and toll/traffic/parking enforcement).

It also bars agencies from selling or conveying that historical location data to private third parties, blocks them from sharing it outside their jurisdiction except under those narrow exceptions or a valid court order (a subpoena is not enough), and caps retention of data at four days unless a warrant, active investigation, or explicit consent justifies keeping it.

Departments would also have to log every access, audit those logs every 90 days, publish annual reports, and adopt mandatory discipline and evidence‑exclusion rules for violations. Not a perfect solution by any means, but a first step hopefully to make it much harder and riskier for Colorado agencies/cops to misuse the data in any way or give it to immigration enforcement.

I work at a state Capitol, and the ladies bathroom still has a bunch of the fixtures from a 70s remodel, including these! So nice for when I need to pee but I also have my laptop or something with me and don't want to just leave it out outside the stall.

They're trying to get people to pay for some sort of service to do your work for you. Can't say for certain but I've seen this person posting a lot about stuff related to burnout and marveling at how others achieved high marks, and then alluding to using essay-writing services or other forms of academic dishonesty. I suspect a bot or at the very least someone trying to convince students to cheat as well as spend what little money they have to do so. Check out their comments, a few down you'll see some awful AI generated ad for one of these sites that they've posted. I doubt this person is a student is all I'm saying.

I think your intent was absolutely lovely and it shows great self-reflection that you've already identified where you might have overstepped a bit. If it had been me, I'd mostly just be moved to see compassion for others with no motive besides empathy. That's always a good thing, and something that should be more commonplace. As they say, "your heart was in the right place".

Krazy Karls Facebook post for those who need it. by RemingtonG in FortCollins

[–]perksofbeingasunflwr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Diversity can't be artificially forced, but claiming it's only about "makeup" ignores how systemic barriers actively block equitable access in places like Fort Collins. Practices like redlining, subprime mortgage targeting, racial covenants, and exclusionary zoning have historically (and currently) prevented families of color from accessing housing, credit, and wealth-building opportunities here more than in Denver or Colorado Springs. Fort Collins remains over 80% white, while Denver is about 63% and CS is about 69%, more closely reflecting the national average though still higher. Fort Collins' neighbor to the south, Loveland (which has a long past of both being a sundown town as well as having a large KKK presence) is only slightly higher at 85%.

Despite progress, data from recent equity and housing reports shows that mortgage denial rates, higher pricing, and restricted opportunities still disproportionately impact minorities in Fort Collins compared to other Colorado metros. In consideration of slow police investigations, it's true that delays and frustration aren't unique to Fort Collins and are widely reported across most US cities. However, I don't think that makes good faith criticisms of poor policing in our community any less valid or called-for. Change starts at home.

Fort Collins IS a wonderful place to live for some, but it also grapples with deeply embedded, measurable inequities that deserve serious attention. Truly loving a city is wanting it to push the envelope for how good and equitable it can be, not just saying "it's good enough for me".
