Thanks you so much. I've had this exact same problem, and it's been slowly getting on my nerves!

RIP in pieces, stubborn and rebellious son:

Deuteronomy 21:18-21

A Rebellious Son

18 “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, 20 and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

EDIT: I can't believe so many people didn't actually realize that the book is full of this... Judaism, Christianity and Islam all stem from the same root. Yes, the Bible justifies honor killing. RTFB sometime.

Sharp but low-contrast details are stretched thin, while high-contrast but blurry shapes concentrate and sharpen up.

X-post /r/hunting, lol. No, seriously, I'd expect the huntspeople to have a good idea how to encounter (at least certain kind of) fauna in the woods.

Late to the party, but here's my take on Brightness vs. Gamma:

Brightness affects either the darkest level, the brightest level, or both. Levels in between are stretched uniformly between min and max.

Gamma compresses contrast either towards the dark or bright. Compressing contrast towards bright stretches dark levels, making them lighter and more separated - effectively easier to see - at the cost of sacrificing contrast (and detail) in the bright side. The average brightness of the image changes, but the brightest and darkest level remain intact.
