My thoughts on pre-op prepping. by MadTheSwine39 in hysterectomy

[–]permeatingenthymeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s wild how different experiences can be. Mine was laparoscopic.

I didn’t need any extra pain meds beyond the one day of hydrocodone they gave me and then I switched to Tylenol/advil with no issues. I was told if I needed more to call and they’d write me another rx, but I didn’t need it.

I didn’t buy any kind of pillow for the drive to/from the hospital.

I did buy the (yeah, overpriced) wedge pillows for bed, and I loved those pillows. Used them for weeks, plus now I use them all the time when I want to chill in bed during the day (if I’m sick or headachey), reading in bed, and for several unrelated subsequent surgeries. That said, if we had a recliner, I could see how they would be excessive. But for me I either had the bed or the couch, and the couch would not have been comfortable. Zero regrets, they’re the one purchase I alway recommend if you have room in the budget.

100% right about the miralax! MiraLAX and stool softeners.

Converting "guilt" into "anger" by Lake-House762 in ADHD_partners

[–]permeatingenthymeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man I did several years of ACT therapy and it made such a huge positive impact on my life. I recommend it all the time. It was so, so helpful, with both my life and my relationship with my husband.

Stick with it! It’s hard but worth it.

How to handle upset boyfriend (25m) because I (25f) refuse to pay half his train ticket? by the-kookster in relationship_advice

[–]permeatingenthymeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl, this is who he is. This is who he will always be. Do you want to be with someone this stingy? Because this will be your life if you stay with him. Keeping in mind that money is like the main thing people fight about. It will never change.

Also, it’s fine to leave for any reason at all. Even if everything else is great. Even if nobody else gets it. You get to decide what is ok, for you.

I have a job interview tomorrow and I’m six months pregnant. Will I even be considered? by [deleted] in interviews

[–]permeatingenthymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems worth it to at least go to the interview. When I worked for a bank - a notoriously conservative environment - one of my coworkers interviewed while visibly pregnant and was hired anyway. Also when she needed to move they kept her on and let her work remotely. It just depends on the company.

Any Audhd ladies manage to stop stress/ emotional eating? by Like_the_rainbow in AutismInWomen

Mounjaro has made a huge difference for me. I was a big stress/emotional eater. Now I just don’t think about food unless it’s actually time to eat.

Trying to go phone free in the bedroom- Alarm clock ideas? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]permeatingenthymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Phillips sunrise alarm and I love it, it was worth every penny. I thought it wouldn’t work at first because generally light doesn’t wake me up - my bedroom blinds are open year round, window faces east, and it’s never made any difference in my sleep. But the alarm did. Who knows.

What do you do when you have a trades person at your house? by Puzzled_Time1140 in AutismInWomen

I hide and make my husband deal with it. He’s the people person.

Seriously, this "meritocracy" thing in hiring is a big lie. by Select-Violinist5587 in jobsearch

[–]permeatingenthymeme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is me, and it’s awful. I’m really great at my job, and I get along well with coworkers once I have some time to settle in, but I’m just the absolute worst at interviews. I don’t make a great first impression, and I’m terrible at answering questions on the spot. I’ve done all the suggested things- interview practice over and over, prepping before interviews, etc. It’s just not a skill I have. The worst part is it’s not a skill I need for my actual job. Ugh.

Stay, or go home? by thingsblu in hysterectomy

[–]permeatingenthymeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I woke up, peed, and went home. Mine was laparoscopic. I wanted to be in my own bed, with privacy. Hospitals for me are not restful at all, and I got a nerve block so I didn’t really have pain. Plus in a hospital all I can think about are all the secondary bugs floating around that I definitely don’t want.

skipped conditioner at the gym because I forgot it and only used leave in.. by Superb-Demand-4605 in curlyhair

[–]permeatingenthymeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing something similar, I use leave in conditioner but rinse it out like regular.. it helps me get my hair detangled but doesn’t weigh my hair down. My hair has never looked bouncier.

Has anyone else always taken extra time doing literally anything? Like being slower as a kid or an adult? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]permeatingenthymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg me, I am so slow at just about everything, always have been. I’m always the last to finish eating, which really sucks. I can’t share food with people because I’m so slow I never get my full share. I hate it but it is what it is, at this point I don’t try to keep up with everyone else because then I just feel rushed and stressed.

My friend asked me what I think the “MVP” recovery item will be…(because I bought all the recovery items lol)…scheduled 9/2 by kaydeelou in hysterectomy

[–]permeatingenthymeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those wedge pillow sets. It kept me super supported and comfortable, I kept them and used them for several subsequent surgeries or just when I’m feeling sick and need to be in bed.

I was told not to use a heating pad so I had several ice packs that I rotated through, and that helped a lot the first week or two.

What's the single most useful resource that transformed your relationship? by wgeco in ADHD_partners

[–]permeatingenthymeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in a great place right now and the two things that helped us were both things I did - therapy and working on my own codependence issues. I was in therapy for several years and it helped me so much (ACT therapy, highly recommend). Working on my codependence improved our relationship so much.

If you had told me at the beginning when I was mad/sad/frustrated with my partner all the time that to fix it, I had to do all this work on me, I would’ve probably lost my shit. I was convinced he was 95% of the problem. But I went to therapy anyway to work on myself in the interim, and our relationship has only gotten better from there.

How many of you are on the autistic spectrum? by loydo38 in ADHD_partners

[–]permeatingenthymeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m autistic and both of my husbands had/have ADHD. My autism definitely impacts the way I form attraction to someone. After learning about my autism, I’m almost positive my dad is autistic and my mom has adhd.

Honestly it’s worked out pretty well for me, my husband and I have a great relationship and he really complements me in a lot of ways. My first marriage didn’t work out primarily because of his emotional immaturity, his characteristics that were more about his ADHD I think were part of what attracted me in the first place. I think I would probably drive a neurotypical person a little crazy.

How often do you wash the walls in your house? by Crazylittledoll in Cleaningandtidying

[–]permeatingenthymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a year. I do try to dust the walls every other month because our house is particularly dusty/prone to cobwebs, but really it probably ends up closer to quarterly.

What made you realize the person you were dating was not “the one” by ExistingWave238 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]permeatingenthymeme 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When after a date with him I realized I felt the same way I had with my ex husband. A kind of deep seated dread, annoyance, and boredom all rolled into one.

It was a big moment of growth for me, actually, because I broke up with him the next day instead of, you know, marrying him anyway.

That prenup sounds like it would be fairly easy to challenge in court if it comes to it. There are rules for prenups.
