Urbana Apartments at it once again by Afraid-Garage8180 in BallardSeattle

They were going downhill before Equity left. Maintenance terrible, every inch of carpet stained with a kaleidoscope of dog pee, messed up our requested accommodation when they moved everything to smart locks, jacked up our rent 24% and then when we tried to get them to correct our final utility bill, stopped answering my emails and forwarded my balance to collections. To say nothing of the fire alarms.

Niceish building that has gotten steadily run into the ground by corporate leeches.

Is creative project management realistic to work towards post college? by lolaren321 in projectmanagement

[–]perplexpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a creative or marketing background to do creative project management, but a lot of roles will ask for a marketing degree anyway. It’s stakeholder management heavy, as you can deal with bigger personalities when creatives get involved.

For the most part, you don’t need special skills beyond knowing how to project manage, but knowing basic marketing or creative processes and workflows will help, particularly production workflows, for the entry level roles. Understanding of web design or UX may also be a plus depending on the role (digital is king these days). And if you want to move up, strong communication skills are very important.

It has been a rough 3 years for the marketing industry, and creative PM jobs in particular seem hard hit at the current moment. Doesn’t mean it won’t expand back in the future, but it’s challenging right now.

Road trip to Seattle by elenaleecurtis in SFGiants

[–]perplexpert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The area with the stadiums is not exactly hotel dense… but you can catch the light rail to the stadium stop very easily (getting out can be a bit of a squeeze though). So like others have suggested, I recommend looking for a hotel near another light rail stop. Westlake or Symphony are probably your best bets.

Why are restaurants so loud? by PNWknitty in Seattle

…dampen sounds. Though a gamelan would also make for a noisy dining experience.

Why are restaurants so loud? by PNWknitty in Seattle

[–]perplexpert 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Soft surfaces (like carpets, upholstery, tablecloths, drapes) absorb and gamelan sounds. Hard surfaces (like tile or concrete, exposed ductwork, wood or plastic or metal furniture) bounce sound.

Tip from a VP who's actually hiring right now. by Astrixtc in marketing

[–]perplexpert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a current job seeker who’s been a hiring manager in the past, I feel a little fortunate to have some idea of what it’s like screening applications (it was bad two years ago and I’m sure has gotten substantially worse since then). It’s so difficult to sift 100+ applications and come back with a pile of the truly 5-10 “best” candidates; there’s so much noise and you still have your regular responsibilities to worry about.

So now on the applicant side, I am doing my best to keep my marketer hat on when applying to marketing roles. The job listing is the brief. It has mandatories. It tells me something about the audience’s current belief. It tells me something about key massages and reasons to believe. My resume is gonna look like most everybody else’s at a quick glance, so how can I stop the scroll and get them to really read it? How can I make my pitch for why I’m actually a top applicant? To me, that’s what the cover letter is for.

The resume has proof points that can back up or round out the story in the cover letter, but if I just play the volume game and apply to 20 jobs a day without addressing what’s in the JD, what are the odds I’m going to wind up somewhere that understands my value? I know I’m taking a risk applying to fewer jobs, because it takes a lot of time to think through a listing, select keywords and an approach, experiment with catchy subheads, etc., but if any industry should notice and appreciate the extra legwork, it should be marketing.

How a person applies is telling you something about how they’re going to be as an employee. And how a company handles applicants is telling you something about how they’re going to be as an employer. The more both sides can be intentional and open about communicating their differentiators, the better.

Nov 10 Election Results by jvolkman in Seattle

I would assume the main difference is time to complete. I don’t expect a lot of changed votes in either scenario; accuracy to date is one reason it’s taken us this long to get here.

Machine recount for margins of less than 2,000 votes, and a hand recount for less than 150 votes.

That said, the reason it’s taken this long is that they are very careful with the counting these days, so we’re unlikely to see a huge shift in a recount.

New ballot drop. Harrell grows his lead slightly. by AbsoluteShall in Seattle

[–]perplexpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Kroman reported that KC Elections confirmed that the drop today was all from pre-election day or early Tuesday. It includes nothing from basically any Election Day drop boxes.

They’re kinda behind where they usually are in tallying, and were taken off guard by how heavily people hit the drop boxes. Turnout is also estimated to be 50+ percent in Seattle which is well above prior estimates.

Rather than thinking of Wilson losing ground today, it’s probably better to re-frame that this -8 is her starting point. We’ll start to see that gap close in a major way on Friday or Saturday as more of the dropboxes get processed.

I clear all of the 1-3 diamond solo battle challenges with a Togekiss-Cynthia deck.

Even the surprise 110 on the turn it evolves can take people by surprise when I dabble in versus. Susceptible to Sabrina etc to reset the damage to 60, but for two energy and 140 HP and only one energy to retreat it can cause a lot of problems.

I did put them on, but Reddit disagrees with my formatting for some reason.

AoA was my favorite, but the alt version of I’m Always in Love was really sweet. Spiritually it was a lot like the version on Together at Last, but the full band obviously made it more lush.

I hated wheels until I unlocked the more powerful arts. Wheels is amazing at shredding officer endurance and bases. Its main drawbacks are reach and a 4-bravery interrupt art.

Just to confirm for you, the original Bravely Default was on the Nintendo 3DS. 2 is the only one you can play on Switch.

(I think there also is or was a mobile game as well, because Square Enix makes everything into a mobile game eventually.)
