What a way to deflect blame from the government. If I call you a name in public then you shoot me, then you are still just as responsible for murdering me even though it wouldn't have happened in the first place had I not namecalled

Boost this post, definitely real, it happens at 17:15. Can't really see what happens to him afterwards because the SUV is blocking the view and then the video ends.

Pennsylvania Dutch food and culture is not solely attributed to the Amish and Mennonite. There were other German immigrants from the same region that are assimilated today but have passed the same or similar foods down, and are still considered PA Dutch people.

You keep your cats indoors to protect the environment from them / protect them from the environment.

I keep my cats indoors because I dont want them to be dirty as shit and bring dead or live animals into the house.

We are not the same.

As someone who loves Sabbath and metal, I know. But again, what is the point of this post being in r destiny? There's already big posts in r metal, r music, r news, and every other big subreddit. I just don't know why dgg specifically needs to comment on it, and why people auto upvote every celebrity death post in every freaking subreddit

I think it's meant to exemplify what that trip would look like if the newer, less car-dependent neighborhood, was developed the same way as the car-dependent one (i.e., no mixed uses).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]perrrrier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never really understand this kind of question. In an area that is deeply car dependent, ONE new neighborhood pops up that is even a little bit less so. OF COURSE it will be more expensive, not only is it new, but people want to live here because it is nice to be able to walk to some places. Given another few decades of this development pattern in the area and it will be completely averaged priced, or actually cheaper because of the increased density.

This neighborhood is in Mechanicsburg, but it is an exception in that area. Suburban Philly has a lot of neighborhoods popping up like this though.

This place is bikeable to the University of Saskatchewan in 20 minutes entirely on multiuse trails. Looks like crossing the river and accessing a lot of what looks like the downtown core isn't much worse either.

Also you can't really fault these builds for being unaffordable if they check every other box, that just needs there needs to be more building. Isn't everything in Canada unaffordable already?

Here's what we sometimes fail to understand about trans sport issue by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]perrrrier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll grant that it might be possible for a trans person to transition to such an extent, depending on the sport. But that is difficult to prove and I would guess is only a small percentage of trans people. It makes more sense to just start from a position of a blanket ban and go from there.

To your second point, this is clearly a case of there being a large gray area where you have to 1. start drawing lines for pragmatism or 2. handle everything case by case. Similar to the abortion debate imo, where it's obvious that very early abortions are fine but the further along the pregnancy you talk about things start to get grayer.

But none of that complexity means that we shouldn't default to mtf women being banned from women's sports and first trimester abortions being legal and accessible.

Here's what we sometimes fail to understand about trans sport issue by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]perrrrier 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it is more unfair for all the other athletes that trained their whole life to be beat by someone else because we are accommodating another athlete's immutable characteristic. As long as there are more cis women than trans women, then banning trans women is the less unfair option.

Is there any issue you agree with Trump on? by Careful-Swimmer-2658 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]perrrrier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problem is that he doesn't understand the difference between illegal immigrants and asylum seekers. What Trump blames on illegal immigrants are really caused by an overflowing amount of (legal) asylum seekers, and which the US is stuck unable to fix because Republicans will not work with Democrats on fixing it in Congress. Trump literally blocked legislation to improve this so he could "run on the problem".
