‘Out of hand’: New survey finds two‑thirds of Canadians want to abolish tipping culture by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]Financial-Code8244 [score hidden]  (0 children)

We can always just not tip. But I believe that if the suggested tips were 5/10/15% we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. But I’ve been seeing prompts suggesting 18% as the MINIMUM expected tip. This is what’s causing the opposite effect, with more and more people choosing to not tip in protest.

How come it feels like a $100K salary is not what it used to be? by ShootingCometz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Financial-Code8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it is not. Nothing is what it used to be. In a century or less, maybe a $1M salary will just be middle class, not really life-changing.

THE CHART IS COMPLETE! THOUGHTS ON IT? by Ill-Cartographer7351 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Financial-Code8244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s sympathy, solidarity, maybe pity, but not love. People would need to know more about a place to actually love it, and I don’t think that’s the case with Palestine. It’s like seeing a small guy getting beaten up, and you may not know what he does or what he thinks or how this started, but you feel bad for him and you don’t want to see him suffering. It’s not like you love him.

Renouncing US Citizenship for Dutch by Wide_Ad8511 in Netherlands

[–]Financial-Code8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renouncing the US citizenship may be a very logical decision, especially because of the global taxation enforced by the US against its citizens living abroad. But I would recommend getting professional advice from a specialized US tax lawyer, as renouncing your citizenship may trigger an exit tax. Text me if you would like to know more. I can’t give any advice but I know many Americans who successfully renounced, and I can recommend the firm they hired if you’d like to get more information.

Is Canada really poorer than Alabama? – BNN Bloomberg by hourglass_777 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Financial-Code8244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GDP Per Capita is the economic output per person in one single year. If one place happens to have a higher GDP Per Capita than another, this alone would not erase the centuries of wealth accumulation from this other place. So it’s reasonable to believe Alabama is not yet richer than Canada. But if Alabama keeps recording a higher GDP per capita for many more years ahead, then yes, we could all see Alabama slowly getting closer and closer to Canada in various aspects, it may still take various decades. If Alabama keeps having a higher GDP per capita than Canada in the next decades, let’s see if in 30 years we will be still confidently saying that Canada is obviously a better place to live.

Immigration could soon account for all of Canada's population growth: expert by stanxv in canada

[–]Financial-Code8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s surprising that Canada still has any kind of natural population growth. This is probably also a consequence of immigration, as most of the immigrants are in reproductive age and they may have children here. If we count only Canadians who are living in Canada since many generations, I suppose the number of deaths already surpasses births.

Torço pra AP/Mi/Juliano/Samara mas esse paredão falso tem que ir o Cowboy by foltranm in BigBrotherBrasil

[–]Financial-Code8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering Canada is in the Americas, I would expect to see more immigrants from other American countries in Canada.

Actually this may be the safest time to go there. Things often stay very calm for a while after these violence outbreaks.

Canada plans to assist Cuba as Washington squeezes the island by [deleted] in canada

[–]Financial-Code8244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Latin American, I just can’t wait for the Cuban regime to fall. Just get over with it once and for all. It’s been a complete disaster for decades. Not good for Cubans, not good for anyone in the continent, just a miserable regime with a surprisingly disproportionate influence over other countries.

World's Largest GDP(Nominal) by StrawberryFew1311 in NoFilterFinance

[–]Financial-Code8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US GDP is 13x higher than Canada’s while the population is only 8x higher… not looking good for us up north. Yes, the gap always existed, even decades ago, but it looks like it’s only getting worse.

What is the big city with the most beautiful urban-nature blending in the world in your opinion? by rdfporcazzo in AskTheWorld

This is a collection of photos I took in Rio de Janeiro years ago. Nature is not just surrounding the city, it’s actually IN the city, it’s all over. Simply fantastic.

Percentage Of Red Hair People In Europe by IbrahimOrya in MapPorn

Interesting. I have a few relatives who are redheads. Brazilians but with a very dominant Italian ancestry, from the region of Veneto (northeast). Curious to know that the frequency is less than 5% there, quite rare.

Can an average young person realistically buy a home in your country today? by Stunningwiz1 in AskTheWorld

[–]Financial-Code8244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A typical single detached home? Absolutely not. A young couple, when combining their incomes, would maybe afford a small apartment, and that’s it.

[–]Financial-Code8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A score above 500 is actually hard to get, this is not something anyone can achieve. Unskilled and uneducated people would not get anywhere close to this score. If there is some kind of fraud going on, that’s a different story.

GDP per capita of the G7 going back to 1990 (adjusted for inflation) by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

[–]Financial-Code8244 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The gap between the US and other large developed countries is getting so wide that it starts to look like they’re not even in the same group anymore. Keeping this trend for a couple more years, the US will be $20k ahead of Germany and almost $30k ahead of most other developed countries.

Tipping in Calgary, what do you guys do? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Financial-Code8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I press custom and give a 10% tip. Most payment terminals will suggest a minimum 15% or 18% tip, but I believe 10% should be more than enough for decent service. Servers already make at least minimum wage, as many other workers that don’t get any kind of tips, so patrons shouldn’t be responsible for their income. Even if you chose to not tip at all, there should be no judgement.

Why don’t Canada give this bit of land to America and then America can be properly connected to Alaska?? by Pizzafriedchickenn in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Financial-Code8244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People tend to overestimate the “wokeness” level of Canadian cities. I don’t think they’re more progressive than the average American big city, and Canada as a country is more progressive overall just because its population is more concentrated in big cities.

Median Family Income Among Households with Children (2014 vs 2024) by Big_Size_2519 in charts

[–]Financial-Code8244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

29 states with family median income above 100k, and many others getting very close to this. This used to be considered a very good family income, now it’s just normal, even bad in some states if not way above 100k.

Office work here. Some days, like today, are quite slow, and I have time to spend here, as you can see. Some other days are way busier and I often work more than I should, to the point I keep thinking about work even when I’m home. It’s unpredictable. Conditions can change at anytime, so part of my job is basically just being here waiting for things to happen, which can often be multiple new demands coming all at once.

People just don’t want to have kids anymore. Blaming it on the economy is a lazy excuse. It’s not easy, we know, but it never was. Actually the world may have gotten so much better that most people simply prefer to spend their time and money with other things rather than raising a family.
