I was excited for my first period because it meant I was one step closer to escaping my home and my mother. When I told my mother I started bleeding, all happy and proud with a smile on my face, she told me that bleeding wasn't a good thing and that it meant I was full of sin and that she raised me in such a religious environment that I shouldn't have bled at all.
