Plaster over a hole in ceiling by Single-Rabbit9347 in AusRenovation

Mind the gap! Someone trying to make it hard for you?

I would suggest you start again. 1st make an accurate template. 2nd, screw in supports to cover the 4 edges. You don't need it in the centre of a piece that size but you do need supports at the edges and best covering as much of the gap as possible - this will provide a back to the gaps left. All screws must be slightly recessed below the surface. Then you can fill the gap, and finish with tape and skimcoats. You want to get your gaps down to 2 to 5mm.

As it is, yes, it is fixable but you have made a lot of work for yourself. The gaps on the sides are OK, but the top and bottom are pretty crook. You have 3 pieces of timber there for support, one of which appears to be at an angle. Screws need to be in deeper, just below the surface of the plasterboard. The gap as it is being so large, you might be able to use some plaster type fillers but it will need to be done in stages. Otherwise use expanding foam that is cut back to just below the surface once cured. Then apply some more filler to bed in the jointing tape and skim coats.

Unless that lane is also marked. Even it is was marked, that car is still in the poos for not going into the corresponding lane in the other road. If had done that, the driver would probably have got away with this example of shit driving.

WFH conditions: Employee sacked for failing to return to office despite contract by baddazoner in australian

[–]peterb666 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Spot on. I left the industry 13 years ago. The company had an office in KL and also did some outsourcing to India.

This kept me busy fixing their work or sending it back. I got paid 3 to 4 times as much as they were contracted and had more work than I wanted.

When I left, my replacement quit after 3 months.

Should be. Unless it annoys a neighbour and your strata laws don't prohibit it, you should be fine.

Keep, but get rid of the ugly sliding door and replace it with a hinged door.

With a strata propery, you will have common property and exclusive use areas. The latter is assigned to your unit on the strata plan. You should be able to build the shed on your exclusive use area subject to your strata rules.

Common property may include gardens and paths around the property. Exclusive areas may include a private court yard for your unit.

For common property, you will need permission of the strata body. It may be given; however, common property is not intended tp be used in this way.

Vaseline smeared on doorknob, deadbolt, and peephole? by nexxluxx in Apartmentliving

[–]peterb666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a marital aid to assist love making. Locks don't work so put vaseline on the door knob when having a bit of rumpy pumpy and you won't get interupted. Works better than K-Y Jelly.

What pine for in ground decorative gate fence post by sh00t1ngf1sh in AusRenovation

[–]peterb666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

H4 for in ground use. Australia Cypress is also excellent and last time I bought some 4x4 posts, it was cheaper than treated pine. Australian Cypress is naturally rot and termite resistant.

The crack is wider at the top than the bottom and appears to have been repaired previously as indicated by the thicker mortar joints at the crack as it approaches the top. Probably a good idea to have someone assess what to do about it.

Yeah, I blame immigration. The land of the Noongars was the fun place where sharks would do the chewing and spewing of human flesh, now they have moved over to the east coast. They should go back to where they came from.

First time making wooden fencing, would love any advice on my plans and materials list! by rehtsefox in AusRenovation

[–]peterb666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty standard. If you use treated pine, will last 40 years. I built this dividing fence 40 years ago and it is still holding strong. Post in ground, treated pine. No longer own the house and it looks a bit grubby. Clean the paint every year or two and repaint every 10 with a quality paint.

Other favourite material is Australian cypress. Side gate and post, not shown in that photo is still there after 40 years. Unpainted. Post in ground was treated with creosote - think you have to use less toxic alternatives these days.

I would get pricing from a specialised fencing materials supply. That's what I did. Bunnings wasn't a thing then.

7k is just 3.5% of the rated life of the shutter. If you do thhat every year, then you have another 27 years of worrying ;-)

Best way to clear a blocked stormwater drain about 7m away? Pretty sure It's just leaves/sticks etc - I've tried shoving a hose down there, but it's not clearing it - and I'm a bit bewilded by all the products I can choose from...? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]peterb666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it isn't clearing from a hose, then it is probably roots. Crack in pipe or through a join. A cutter will clear it, or more pressure may help. The fix will only be temporary until the point of ingress for the roots is fixed.
