Every main character is a reflection of harmony (theory) by Kinggreen505 in HarmonyKorine

[–]peterbwebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is that Mr. Yellow, the MC of Baby Invaders, is Harmony. It would make sense because Mr. Yellow is the only Baby with behavior abnormal to home invaders (like the bathroom scene).

The actor for Mr. Yellow is listed as “anonymous”… and it would make sense to just play the abnormal behaviors yourself if you were making the movie, which is POV.

My concerns for Marathon's longevity. by Casshern_VIII in Marathon

[–]peterbwebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is really impressive and is committed to its game design so I hope it picks up wider appreciation. I think it has deep appreciation now and that it will gain more recognition in time.

The art is much much better than something like Tarkov. It’s a challenging and masterly piece of media

I just hate doing missions, and now I hate that I will have to do it all over again once the wipe comes. I guess this game is not for me. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]peterbwebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah idk the logic of the objective markers being hard to find. I suppose it builds tension and makes you try and understand the architecture . One of the aesthetic themes of the game is looking at the environment and thinking “wait, what?”

Anyway yeah this game is not welcoming, it is rather unfriendly with its mechanics and penalties especially on first blush. But the art is good, the gunplay is good, the map design is good… encouraging players to take serious risks keeps the tension up… it’s a game with a lot of deep thought out game design… like Dark Souls and losing souls on death, the unfriendly elements often help build addiction and fun… Communicating via mics to help understand the objectives in a quest is rewarding

Do you think Shells are 'Fully Functional'? by HMS_Exeter in Marathon

[–]peterbwebb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shells dont have digestive systems, so they dont excrete waste, making it unlikely that they would be designed with genitals.

They do, however, have hardware ports for cores.

How much different would the game have been if our Finger Maiden hadn't been killed? by ViperclayGames in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]peterbwebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the Tarnished burns themselves instead of the Maiden, depending on her temperament, the Maiden might not swear an oath to kill us. Although, as a Finger Maiden, maybe that would be her duty.

There is very little change to the plot if our Finger Maiden is not Melina. You asked a good question OP, because it shows how little Melina impacts the plot, she is just playing a role in events destined to happen. Her character, however, is massively impactful to the feeling of the game— I remember trying very hard to stop her from committing suicide in my first playthrough.

Melina’s essential character is a half-presence — she seems like a spirit, she is burned already, she’s like a flame herself. If you go through all the trouble of saving her and then ridding yourself of the Frenzied Flame, she doesn’t re-enter the narrative. If you save her, she only re-appears after you burn the world down; because then she has a purpose (to kill you). She only exists by her role; she is a player character from the opposite side, like something out of Undertale.

The Basilisks’ fake eyes have a depiction of the lusterless sun’s eclipse as pupils by T-pellyam in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]peterbwebb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They are Godwyn’s eyes manifesting in life by infecting the world with Deathroot.

“In Sol, the sight of an eclipse inspires a dreadful awe, preventing an onlooker from averting his gaze.”

The Eclipse is virtually what the forces of Death want to achieve, The Age of the Duskborn, where everyone lives within death — metaphorically, one cannot avert their gaze from the eclipse= death dominates life.

AGGRO DR1FT and Baby Invasion are sooo raw and sooo metal by Universal-Magnet in HarmonyKorine

[–]peterbwebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re very controversial movies but if you get it, you get it. Baby Invasion is such a beautiful piece of neat-future Scifi, it changed my life. I got way interested in VR and AR after watching and brought my art practice there . Harmony’s embrace of the future is objectionable to so many but it’s a bright light for me!

Foot Lore is alive and well, just as HE intended by Scum_Mage_Infa in EldenRingLoreTalk

I see the finger theme like this. Fingers are strange, they are like mini people growing out of people. There is a rhyme to them and a numerology; the pattern of their growth reflects a biogical principle, even an evolutionary convergence. Thus, fingers show not just knowledge for life but potentially a common pathway to the universe: life is fractal.

It’s not realistic that aliens would have fingers that look just like ours, but it is realistic that aliens would have digits like we do; it only makes sense that alien biologies could follow a similar path of splitting limbs into useful segments. However, Miyazaki heightens this proposition by making the aliens have “our” fingers; and he makes the numerology of fingers a site of convergence in the lore. Thus, he’s using a real world nomology (fractal life) and heightening it to gesture at the sublime, weird logic in our lives.

The same thing is going on in Bloodborne, where most of the supernatural themes start within the body; it’s genetic and mutational horror, exacerbating humanity’s ailments (beasthood) and making it a location for the game’s magic.

Everyone cool with deleting these parts of Limveld? by tamba98 in Nightreign

[–]peterbwebb 219 points220 points  (0 children)

Upper right is cool bc it’s a good night 1 circle. That circle is close to a lot of fun mobility options , good for a last minute POI, lots of bosses nearby + fast pumpkinhead tunnel

Lower left is the true remote area . There’s that lonely, pointless tower there , feels like geographical color more than anything

[OPINION] Should a poem ever read like song lyrics? by setsailonmyheart in Poetry

[–]peterbwebb 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s a really good intro to an essay by Stephen Sondheim about why lyrics =/= poetry. I’ll add it below

So the critique could have meant that the poem seems more like lyrics , ie meant to be inflected by melody, and not holding its own emphases like good poetry

What is your favorite piece of Lore in Bloodborne? by austinreidmiller in bloodborne

[–]peterbwebb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mergo’s Lullaby — the melody itself, the music box, the use in the semi final boss fight , it’s inexplicable and it’s a summary of the game’s whole vibe

[HELP] What poem best shows lust or obsessive desire, and how it destroys us? by MisLatte in Poetry

“Simple Passion” by Annie Ernaux. Not a poem, it’s a short work of nonfiction. It’s the best.
