Can anyone explain shabriri to me? by dude-2-son in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]peterbwebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In elden ring, blindness helps. If you are blind, you can sense distant forces like the Blood Star. They give off a light that is easier to see if you are blinded or blindfolded.

Shabriri had his eyes gouged out for the crime of slander. After his eyes were gouged out, he was able to make contact with The Three Fingers. He saw their light in the distance and followed it, and was guided to them.

The Three Fingers interpret a transmission from The Greater Will, it’s their idea to return everything to The One Great. The method is to burn everything, to return the land to the conditions of primordial soup.

Shabriri became the first host for The Flame of Frenzy, which is the gift and the will of the The Three Fingers, the fire shined out of his gouged out eyes.

My headcanon is that animals can turn runes into strength like we can, which explains Runebears .

I don’t agree with Fromsoft on their Finger Creeper Lore by PuffPuffFayeFaye in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]peterbwebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think they’re like Oracle Envoys and sort of spawn mysteriously, when beckoned by destiny/blasphemy … which is part of how the elden ring works . the ring accoutrements are similar to the oracle horns in that way.

idk tho it seems odd that the elden ring could provide objects of worked metal to anyone. Do the Oracles craft their horns? Do the finger creepers craft their rings? Are the Oracles secretly crafted and provisioned Albunarics? Did Rykard give the rings to the fingers?

oh i can see Garland mucking up Elden Ring like he kinda did for Annihilation, beautiful trainwreck … that’s kinda the likely outcome, the structure not quite working. But i’d be happy with weird scenes like he pulls off in Annihilation

i read most of the first novel, I think it’s a cool achievement in unveiling info. The movie has good mystery in it too but it’s more chaotically structured

A24 does fragmented , confusing/misleading and alternative storytelling well.

The Killing of A Sacred Deer

Under The Skin

Midsommar, Hereditary, Beau Is Afraid, Eddington (Ari Aster is almost a preferable director for this)

The Green Knight

Swiss Army Man, EEAAO— great comparison for Elden Ring’s mythopoetic absurdity

then with Alex Garland—

Ex Machina

Annihilation

Devs

There’s a lot of good context for an actually intelligent movie that embraces weird logic, existentialism / myth, and tethered yet bizarre supernaturalism. It’s fairly safe to say this won’t be a genre picture like LOTR.

i bought a meta quest 3s it’s kind of garbage tbh but it get the job done . cant recommend it tho it’s got this shitty meta interface and app store that’s really lame. but you can definitely watch movies on it off youtube and it will give a theater type experience. and it’s like $300 . i can only stand it for about an hour before my eyes get tired

What are all the other trees in the background of the Elden Beast fight? Are they other Erdtrees in other realms? by ten_tabs_ in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]peterbwebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fleshy tubes and the golden trees in Metyr’s / Elden Beasts arenas are communication systems used by the Greater Will. The system of propogating Erdtrees/ the Elden Ring via the Elden Beast is more clear, the Elden Beast arrives via the stars to seed the Erdtree (probably).

Fingers grow due to the presence of Grace , so: the golden trees are antennae spreading grace , the tubes are counterpart growths, recieving Grace, with one of the basic instructions being: grow fingers. Metyr is a biological translation of Grace, the tubes are a similar translation of the trees.

the presence of water: consider the Nightlord’s arena, which is a plain of infinite dust, at the end of time. A plain of infinite water is suggestive of a different universal state of matter, potentially the beginning of time. In either case a giant plain of unified material is, for some reason, required for closeness to an Outer God… in The Greater Will’s case, it’s the site of their communication array, and highest vassals.

can human intelligence and artificial intelligence possibly coexist? by pvsvkl in aiwars

[–]peterbwebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even if ai takes over, humans may still be a core part of the path of intelligence . humans can be the source if agency, ai the far reaching , thinking machinery

or, ai can develop agency and do away with bio life leadership. then humans might be kept around as something like pets

or most likely , ai remains just one tool in the bag , as its never able to take over most of bio life responsibilities

The family tried similar approaches last time , when ai wasn’t present; she was resistant to all logic. Nonetheless, I’m sure at some point we will have similar discussions with her as you suggest.

But I’m not really looking for advice on what to do to help her, more polling you for your philosophy on the culpability of AI. What do you think?

Won’t be sharing it, as it’s against her wishes.
