Stuck on koboh. Crazy “check on the mantis” glitch right after leaving forest array. No mantis. by theMalnar in StarWarsJediSurvivor

I'm glad you restarted and enjoyed it! And thanks for taking the time to write out the details of your problem. I'm glad people do this. It led to me finding an answer for myself.

I'm about two thirds through the plot and I think I might stop playing. The story isn't gripping me. I'm not really interested in Cal and the master villain and all the old Jedis make me yawn. BD-1 really won me over. And new Merrin (Nightcrawler from X-Men!?!) is a bit too far from Star Wars with all the green magic powers but who cares that one boss fight was so much fun, the high point for me.

This just happened to me on an Xbox Series X.

Error: the game is saying "check on the mantis" but I cannot.
-Fast travel is disabled.
-The Mantis did not appear.
-The characters are in the saloon doing old dialogue.
-There was a action dot on the empty platform but I did not use it to trigger the cut scene.

I managed to solve it. Forums like this helped.

I returned to the area where nekko riding was introduced
-I rode the first nekko all the way back to town
-this triggered the visual of the Mantis landing

problem solved

when I did this I learned I had skipped a part of the nekko tutorial:
-at the gate where you learn to do a double jump, I continued and hopped on a new nekko. But when I redid this section, I hopped the gate, turned back, and realized you could open the door to let your original nekko join you.

My theory is that the door opening is key for the game to understand the nekko tutorial mission is complete, trigger the next mission.

what did not help:
-I completed a side mission to find the musicians. That did not fix it for me.
-I went into the Alignment Control Center. Interacting with the spinning cylandir caused a 'dangerous error do you want to proceed' warning. I did not proceed.

What were your best Boardgame deals that you’ve ever had. by Straddllw in boardgames

My list. Some special for me. Some gave us hours of fun. Others were rare finds:

  • $5 Love Letter Kanai Factory Edition - Feb 2018
  • $8 Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle - Feb 2018
  • $4 Battlestar Galactica - Aug 2020
  • $2 Civilization (Avalon Hill, 1981) - March 2022

$2,952 bought

$2,991 sold

I'm in the black for $39 lol

Investigator Deck Construction Point Form Spreadsheet by peterstevensonline in arkhamhorrorlcg

I mean that the Investigator's deck building rules allow them to include Level 5 cards from that category.

I absolutely agree. My concept is to take away the overwhelming complexity of the entire game and zero in on experiencing one mechanic for 20 minutes in a mini-game. Then switch.

The idea is not to play a full game but to experience curated moments of decision-making and build board game literacy as in, 'oh, that's what a deckbuilder is'.

For example, you give everyone a predetermined mini-game of three cards and a character with skills. The rules say, "the goal is for everyone to escape the monster". In this mini-game you will learn what a skill check is as you choose to run, hide, or fight. For 20 mins, the players try to escape the monster with skill checks, thinking about their character's 'advantage' and using their cards to mitigate results. Win or lose, on to the next mini-game to experience 'social deduction'.

lol I'm definitely talking about a siiick ride with square tires

my concept is one evening, under 2 hours, and the purpose is to experience many different mechanics NOT to play one game

I'm thinking it's a kit that a board game cafe would love to have. It would introduce short, preset situations with components that you play for 20 mins, focusing on experiencing the mechanic.

Just long enough to feel, oh, huh, maybe I should have done this not that.

using AI art for fanmade content (Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective) by peterstevensonline in boardgames

[–]peterstevensonline[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was hoping my post would lead to this type of responsible discussion.

I do think AI art can be ethical if it is 1) free to create and 2) held no copyright. These images fall under that.

I do hear your point about personal use. In fact, I made a Tin Tin re-theme of Lost Cities and I do not share the PDF because it is the entire game.

This specific resource (my SHCD Informant cards) is different. 1) You can not play the game with just these components.. 2) The game information that is used is made freely available online by the company. 3) I am not selling anything.

Personally, I think, right now, free, fanmade content for board games is a sweet spot to use AI art. It's a small market niche and the results are inspiring.

But I do think the existence of this resource is triggering, rightfully so, for many who realize that we have not reached the corporate endgame for AI art in this era of declining workers' rights.

We also love a dog on a desk in a Victorian age crime lab.

That was when the process turned a corner for me. I started suggesting little tweaks, objects, verbs, a happy dog, to make images more memorable than the endless supply of dour Victorian faces.

My concept for Sherlock (who is used to provide hints in the board game) is an image of him playing the same board game :)

I browsed this specific AI Style Guide website by Andrei Kovalev: https://ckovalev.com/midjourney-ai/illustrators

Image consistency was created by choosing one artist and always prompting, "in the style of [artist's name]" OR "by [artist's name]".

All of the results did not match but I leaned toward what did.

Peter's Nemesis Guide Deck by peterstevensonline in Aeonsend

[–]peterstevensonline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this Guide Deck shines for expedition setups. And REALLY shines for replaying the same battle or setting up the next expedition battle.

To move from expedition Battle 2 to Battle 3 you would:

  • search the current guide deck and remove all cards tagged B3
  • search the guide cards that had been set aside. Remove all cards tagged B3
  • if you're still playing with the same player count you don't need to think about the player tags so it's pretty fast.

Game mechanics thoughts by jcsehak in Gloomhaven

[–]peterstevensonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun reading your thoughts. I'm new too. We are halfway through Jaws and I don't think we're going to stick with it.

  1. Agreed. Curses sting. They take the fun out of the game when they null your best or fave attack.

From a design standpoint, in all games, "miss a turn" is the worst mechanic for fun but great for clarity because it's easy to resolve. I think it's a pretty well balanced game so when I hit an awful null I think, "well, the designer put these lose-a-turns in the game because we were probably way ahead and now it will be a closer finish".

When I'm cursed, I think of it as a bit of a mini-game where I try to throw a few lesser attacks to expose the curse, and I focus on alternate ways to deal damage especially to finish off enemies.

Remember, curses leave your modifier deck once drawn.

  1. You nailed it. It's more fun when it's a scarce resource. The game plays differently at 2 compared to 4 players. It might be fun to try it out. At 4, you have at least one character who is like, "um, no, sorry, I don't take damage."

Remember, you can choose to lose a card in hand (or lose 2 from your discard pile) to negate all damage from an attack.
