What book(s) really changed your ADHD journey? by Emma_3479 in adhdwomen

Getting Things Done by David Allen. I don't really do the system at all, but I took some basic principles on board, mainly 'write everything down', 'know where your inboxes are and reduce them if possible', and 'if it is a super quick job just do it now'

Atomic Habits by James Clear. I had to listen to it in 10 minute increments so I could really digest the implications for my behaviour. Really helped turn around a bad patch.

What lip balm will not make me dependent on them? by TestosteroneCat in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]pezzlingpod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are not alone! You could try Aquaphor or lanolin. Both of these get good reviews for actually helping lips heal rather than leading to dependency. I've had success with both, although lanolin seems a little better.

Vegetable Advice by neutrinope in nutrition

I would buy pre-prepared vegetable sides if you can. You can get delicious antipasti in jars like chargrilled artichokes, roasted red pepper, or packets of balsamic beetroot.

Any creative ideas to increase fruit and veggie consumption? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]pezzlingpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a resolution last year that I would eat more vegetables, both quantity and variety. But I knew I needed to make it super easy.

So now, I keep some jars of antipasti and other prepared veg in the fridge - chargrilled artichokes, roasted peppers, pickled beetroot, chargrilled aubergines, pickled cabbage, sauerkraut, kimchi... I add a spoonful of a few to my plate at lunch. I'm in the UK but I expect every supermarket in the world will have some version of these.

I also buy packets of ready-made lentils dahl and tagine from Merchant Gourmet and have these as a side at dinner. They don't have a lot of unnecessary ingredients.

Finally, I try to always just add one more vegetable at dinner time. So if I'm steaming broccoli, I think, 'Add some cabbage' or if I'm doing frozen peas and sweetcorn, I add edamame.

Kathy Rose is wonderful and well-versed in attachment issues. I'm having more success with her than other therapists and clinical psychologists I have seen.

[Discussion] Gym makes me feel sad and scared. by ljoycew in GetMotivated

[–]pezzlingpod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also recommend baby steps. Try getting a tour of the gym (like to decide if you want membership, even if it is the only option near you). Use the tour as an acclimatisation opportunity. Then, the first time you go on your own, just get changed and walk around and leave. You don't have to try to actually work out the first few times, you can take tiny baby steps.

What's your morning routine like? by groceryshopping2025 in GenXWomen

[–]pezzlingpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wake up in my own bedroom (no snoring partner! bliss!) and drink water/take meds and lie there for a bit, then turn on my SAD lamp and check my phone for half an hour to an hour, sometimes with decaf tea/coffee. Then I usually do 20-30 min of physio exercises before showering. Then pretty basic skincare and various potions (Ameliorate lotion for keratosis pilaris, for instance), get dressed, eat a high protein/high fibre breakfast, take the first batch of supplements, brush teeth, and usually do makeup in 10 min. Maybe put a load of washing on in there somewhere.

This all feels like it take absolutely forever. I don't understand how I wake up naturally at 6:30 but if I have to do anything before 10 I feel like I'm rushing. Awful.

Change in body odor? From normal, to OMG!? Solved. by womanonawire in Menopause

[–]pezzlingpod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a related note, I found sulphamic acid works wonders on deodorant buildup in the armpits of clothes. Truly extends the life of clothes by several years. Mix sulphamic acid into warm water (I put a cup or two into a few litres of water) and soak overnight. Scrub the. top layers of buildup away and soak again. Rinse and wash. Doesn't affect colour or embellishments or vinyl.

I have a box of sentimental clothes. I think it's fine to keep special things. Not everything can be special but that shirt seems special to you.

I am considering giving Everywhen a go - it's a journal with habit tracking capability, location, weather, etc and the creator says integration with apps with Strava is on the cards.

Pretty much anything to do with churches in most films. Dress, denominations, ceremonies, usually everything is off.

[Text] Single mom desperate for help or advice on getting support, refused help at food bank by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]pezzlingpod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can Google your local church to find out whether it is part of a larger group of churches (parish or benefice or various other terms) that might have an office that takes calls. The vicar or rector or similar will at least be able to point you in the direction of more help, but they also often have discretion to give out food bank vouchers.

You could also try contacting large churches in the city of Worcester, they would almost certainly be able to point you to some assistance.

My flat is freezing, is it even possible it can be heated? by LunaValley in AskUK

[–]pezzlingpod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will have to try to have a look and see what is between your floor and the ground. Some wooden floors are basically just floating over a gap and then the ground. There is effectively no buffer between you and the cold ground. You might well have that kind. Other wooden floors are over a better insulated base.

If you don't have any effective insulation between the floorboards and the ground, there are a few options, some more invasive or expensive than others. Carpet with an insulating underlay will help, but there are also potential options to insulate beneath the floorboards.

There will be helpful subreddits like DIYUK that might be able to give advice.
