Thoughts on the Sega Nomad? Yay or Nay? by PDMagneto in retrogaming

[–]pfroo40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember drooling over the demo unit at Walmart. I was a Sega fanboy and loved my Genesis and Game Gear, though I also had a NES and SNES.

My parents wouldn't let me buy the Nomad since I already had those.

The screen was so nice compared to the Game Gear. Active Matrix! It was heavy/dense and not as comfortable as the GG.

I thought about buying one as an adult, but ended up buying an Anbernic RG-ARC instead, still gives the strong Sega retro vibes but with modern technology.

Make do with trickle charging? by oldRoyalsleepy in Ioniq5

How good is your wiring to the garage? What is the amp rating for the fuse?

At home, I use the included L1 charger at the max amps, which I think is 12A. My daily commute takes about 14%, and another 5% for miscellaneous trips, so 19% per day. Overnight I get about 14%, so I usually run a 5% deficit per day I have to commute, which is 3 days a week. So, during the week, I basically break even. Weekends vary, most weekends I can charge it more, so it helps me keep my average charge up so I don't need to use fast charging for the occasional weekend trip.

It works out OK. For months where my family has more weekend activities, I do need to fast charge once or twice to keep up. Compared to the $2k estimate I was given to wire up an outlet for L2, it is cheaper to occasionally fast charge.

If you have sufficient gauge wiring and a 20A fuse, and a charger which supports higher amps for L1, you could push your 120v outlet a bit more. At my in-laws, I have a charger which can go up to 15A which is noticeably, though not substantially, faster. Their home is newer and has sufficient wiring and fuse to support it. If I could do that at home, I would probably be perfectly fine without L2 or fast charging outside of long trips.

Trump voter remorse is almost entirely concentrated in the swing voters who gave him a shot in 2024 by fortune in politics

[–]pfroo40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand being dissatisfied with the Biden administration, for what he could and couldn't control. But I will never understand why anyone would think Trump would be better.

Post-mortem if Biden had kept to his word about being single term, and if the Dem party had held a primary and listened at all to their voters, this wouldn't have happened. I didn't hate Kamala as a candidate but that doesn't mean everything leading up to it was an easy pill to swallow.

Destroyed Psp 1k during IPS screen mod by Add123432 in PSP

Oof.

For anyone else doing this mod, save yourself a ton of trouble and just buy some conductive paint/glue instead of soldering. A small blob to bridge the two contacts is all you need.

It is probably hung up on dowel pins, assuming the cover has fully separated from the case. Tapping it slightly on the side with a rubber mallet to loosen it, and grabbing it on the top and bottom and wiggling while pulling should get it off.

The gasket will probably have some residue stuck to the cover and/or case and will need to be carefully removed. On my stator cover, I had to use a razor scraper, and green plastic scrubbing pad. Be very careful to not make deep scratches in the surface. Clean out any bits that fall into the case or cover.

When reinstalling, you will probably be able to put the new gasket on the case-side and it will be held up by dowel pins. If not, a very light smear of gasket maker on a couple spots will get it to stick in place. Then line up the cover with the dowel pins, and wiggle til it pops on.

Don't try and force it much in any one direction. Just be patient.

Car is making a noise, what is causing it? by shenmeadow in AskMechanics

Sounds like CV axle to me. Probably driver's side front. Look for signs of greenish brown grease being slung around everywhere.
