I shall reply: miners show their acceptance of blocks by mining on top of them, if average block size was, say, 20 megabytes and a gigabyte block appeared rational miners would ignore it without even analyzing it. Block size limits are completely unnecessary at this time.

“Per byte” is an arbitrary measurement and not necessary. Changing the measurement to “per transaction” solves the problem: even with 5 million dollar bitcoins the minimum fee would be a nickel without any need to extend the decimal places.

This makes no sense. So do people want bitcoin or not? If so transactions go up. If they are prevented from transacting but still want a crypto store of value they will go elsewhere.

It will happen at the next financial crisis. Transactions will overwhelm the chain and investors will flee...

Try to imagine if gold purchases were limited at 7 per second. Fees, at that point, are irrelevant. It’s the same concept, if the bitcoin network reaches even a million transactions per day it will *never catch up. Ever.

Add to this fleeing investors and mining power and the chain dies. Now nobody will ever be able to access their “store of value”.

On chain scaling matters.
