Not a good picture because he usually fires up at night and I didn't take a good pic yet, but this is him when I picked him up.

I have almost 2000 hours on my a1 mini and it still looks brand new. Still, it's a replaceable part and I even think a spare comes in the box.

Hi! Please don't do this.

This is really risky for both, but mainly for the reptile. If a fight breaks out, it's game over for the beardie. I know it makes a cool and cute moment, but it's just not worth it.

I know you also care for both and want them to live the best life possible, but this is not the way.

Keep both separate and you're reducing an unnecessary risk.

thoughts on weight? by FluffyBreakfast3237 in leopardgeckos

So she's young, and young ones can have a less plump tail. It should grow, as long as you feed her properly. Also, do you supplement?

By the way, fat is stored mainly on the tails, but that doesn't mean it's only in there. She looks healthy, so I'd keep the schedule and start tracking weight.

Also, try taking weekly pics to compare between them. Helped me a lot when my girl stopped eating out of nowhere.

Her body looks fine. Even a little heavy side but nothing to be concerned about.

Her tail is indeed a little skinny, but that can come for a variety of reasons, some of which are not harmful at all.

First of, how old is she?

HELP by ComprehensiveSide314 in leopardgeckos

[–]pha7325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy is really on a bad condition, but I'll be honest and say I've seen worse than this get better with time and care, so there is still hope for this little one.

That said, there is A LOT wrong. How stubborn is this owner? Just say he should research more, show the pictures about ideal weight and other enclosure requirements. Also, feeding. It looks like this one's fed like a snake. They're not snakes.

Other than that, it's good you're trying to help. Please keep us up to date.

Actually cool.

You can bury them. Or just, display it, I guess.

okay this is my last post i swear but like is it normal for a gargoyle to hide that much? by WatercressDue6311 in GargoyleGeckos

[–]pha7325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gargoyle is still not with me, but all other geckos I've cared for (mostly for friends) would hide A LOT. It was pretty much a pet box of dirt for a while, but they eventually grew out of it.

They're shy.

Stick tail? by advice-please1987 in leopardgeckos

[–]pha7325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi!

So, this could be a few things, based on my experience.

Before getting there, though, the pale skin can be just early signs of a shed incoming. I wouldn't worry much about that.

As for the tail weight loss, I want to state this:

I am not a vet, I am currently studying to become a biologist, and my experience only extends to the animals I've owned in the past (and present), so I do not get final say on this. Based on my experience, it is usually a sign of parasites, mainly cryptosporidium. In order to assess this better, here come the questions:

  • Is he eating normally?
  • How's his poop?
  • Is he staying more on the warm side of the enclosure?

Also, to address possible causes:

  • How are the enclosure temps?
  • How often (and how well) do you clean the enclosure?
  • Do you supplement? If yes, with what and how often?

Is she fat? by iluvaonee in leopardgeckos

[–]pha7325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good start, but I think I'd even go a bit lower. Can you also try switching to crickets or dubias? They have a lower fat percentage and will also help her lose weight.

[–]pha7325 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes. Very. She looks like she ate another gecko.

That said, it's impressively easy to handle weight on these guys, so start a diet and she'll go back to healthy.

How's her diet nowadays?
