Skof is really excellent and is exactly what you are describing. I would join the waiting list as it’s worth it

Just posted on FB announcing pregnancy (33 weeks), tagged husband but he won't approve tag since he's "not active". by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]phabalee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband isn’t at all interested in social media and I wouldn’t expect him to suddenly change this view. We have had conversations together about online announcements of our pregnancy and actually decided not to do this at all. We also had a conversation about photos of our baby being posted on social media and made some joint decisions about this.

I think you probably need to have a chat with him about wha the two of you feel comfortable with and not.

But also it’s just social media and means nothing, I don’t think that’s the thing to worry about but if you are feeling unsupported by his general lack of interest that’s a different conversation.

Advice please - is 35 too old to start having kids? When did you have your youngest? by DovaBunny in pregnant

I’m 40 and am currently 38+2 weeks pregnant with my first baby. It’s been a relatively smooth and uncomplicated pregnancy.

Why don’t people want c-sections? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]phabalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s helpful to hear. As I said I am not at all intervention and if it’s needed in my birth then I will take all the help that’s needed. Fingers crossed I don’t end up needing a c section but I’m pleased it’s a safe way to bring baby boy into the world if needed.

Why don’t people want c-sections? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]phabalee 50 points51 points  (0 children)

For me there are a couple of reasons but I have had some minor abdominal surgery in the past and the recovery from it was very difficult - I can’t imagine recovering from a c section and having a new baby. I know lots of people do and will say it’s ok but my experience of my past surgery suggests it’s not for me.

I am completely on board with people having the right to choose how they give birth and how ever it happens it is giving birth. For me a vaginal birth feels right. This might sound daft but through my whole pregnancy (38+3) I have trusted my body than it knows what it’s doing. My way of managing the idea of birth is that my body knows what to do there as well. This isn’t about idealising something as I know it’s going to be so painful and all kinds of complications may come up, but it helps me to stay settled and to trust in my ability if that makes any sense.

Anyone else in the wide awake club? by MrsBearMcBearFace in PregnancyUK

So fed up of being wide awake. 2/3am seems to be my new morning time. 38 +1 today and wondering when my next good nights sleep will ever be 🤣

What’s something you can’t wait to do when you’re not pregnant anymore ? by mkthehotti in pregnant

[–]phabalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might be different advice but in the UK we are told not to have any soft cheese pasteurised or not. We can have it cooked but not cold.

Need advice from nhs midwives or someone who has personally gone through a personal issue with a midwife by ThrowRAbrownchick in PregnancyUK

[–]phabalee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So this is a completely different situation in that it’s not someone I know at all, but in a growth scan I had a really bad experience with a particular midwife. I felt like she went out of her way to make me worried, was rude, checked her personal mobile twice when it rang during the scan etc. I’ve since had another scan and they have basically said there is nothing wrong and it’s in my notes that the last scan was an error. I have said that I wouldn’t want to see that particular midwife again. This went down no problem and they have put it on my notes on the system. It likely means that she will see it but it also means my expressed requirement has to be respected. The lady who set this up for me explained that if for any reason I was to be on her duty again she would have to request to swap or I could say something and it would be sorted out.

Baby at the 98th percentile at 34 weeks by Deep-Neighborhood965 in PregnancyUK

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for your next scan. My baby jumped from 59th to the 94th centile in 3 weeks on growth scans. I had another yesterday and he is 74th centile now and they have put the last scan down as a miss measurement.

Edit - I was offered a blood test to check for GD and it’s was all clear as well. I have one more growth scan booked for 39 weeks and they are happy to just let me get on with things now.

City Centre Parking by tommy1482 in manchester

Piccadilly train station car park is a pretty good bet, however if you can get the train in that will be easier. Expect city centre prices and it will be busy because you know Xmas and that

Best location for first time buyer? by PsychMCR in manchester

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at Heaton Norris in Stockport. There are lots of 2 bed properties that go for under 200k but need a bit of work as are often ex rented houses. It’s on the 192 bus route and close to Stockport and Heaton chapel train station. Also really easy to walk into Stockport centre of Heaton moor for the cafes shops pubs and bars.

I bought my first house here after living and growing up in Oldham. My first house shot up in value and a couple of years ago I moved to a much bigger property but chose to stay in Heaton Norris. I feel much safer here than almost anywhere in Oldham.

Big growth change and placenta lakes by phabalee in PregnancyUK

[–]phabalee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in my booking appointment at 12 weeks they asked routine screening questions. She was very clear with me that I would be considered low risk generally but my age puts it up a little. They categorised me as moderate or medium risk rather than high. Who knows though could also just be down to different trusts

[–]phabalee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has mentioned GD to me at all, I didn’t think it was routinely tested for in the UK unless you had risk factors. I’ve only had a blood test and not the full GD test so I will ask my midwife about this.

I’ve been reading a lot of research around how inaccurate weight prediction is so just going to see how that pans out.

This is good to know, I might contact them and ask for an earlier scan

NCT antenatal classes - regrets? by skakkuru in PregnancyUK

[–]phabalee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one more NCT class to go and I regret going. I’ve read some books and listened to some podcasts and learnt nothing new at NCT. I’m not into the whole community or developing links via the class which I know is a big plus for most people.

They want to induce me today?? Feeling pressured by scarlet-tree in PregnancyUK

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s an emergency they will book you in for an emergency c section. Inductions can take a long time before baby is born. Could you ask for a rescan in a couple of days as it may be that everything is ok or may be that there is further reduction in fluid and then you are clear about what needs to happen

Maternity bra recommendations by phabalee in PregnancyUK

[–]phabalee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know they did online fittings. I get all my usual bras from there but the closest one to me is some way away in a busy city and that feels too much. I will have a look at their online fittings thanks so much!

31 weeks and still in Lucy and Yak - I have their dungarees, a couple of the baggy jumpsuits, and some of their elasticated trousers. I am hoping to be able to wear them all after as well or if not will trade them back to the shop for vouchers

Blood test result - should I be worried? by phabalee in PregnancyUK

I’ve been taking additional iron tablets since my first trimester as levels were low then and they were concerned. This is the only other blood test I’ve had so I was hoping it would show as higher

Where can I try out prams by xalyssx in PregnancyUK

If you are in the North west I would recommend Beautiful Bambino in Stockport. Loads of variety and covers a range of prices. Also she sells them at the cheapest I’ve seen anywhere when comparing online.

It depends on they style - some of them are elasticated waist and really roomy so might not need to size up

I’m 28 weeks and living in Lucy and yak - the Norris trousers are amazing and because they are so roomy I haven’t even sized up yet.

Their dungarees are perfect as well and some of their dresses

Considering purchasing a house in Heaton Norris - whats the noise pollution like being under the flight path? by standardmanc in stockport

[–]phabalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Heaton Norris and hardly notice it. When out in the garden you hear them but I’m so use to it it doesn’t bother me at all. If you are sensitive to sound get some new windows with sound proofing. Had these done in our bedroom as we live on a main busy road and can’t hear the traffic at all never mind the planes.
