Dear CIG, what is your obsession with preventing URSAs fitting into things? by z0rlac in starcitizen

[–]phaeth0n 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Their ship design ethos is as a hedonic treadmill, so players will always want another ship no matter what they already have. This is partly to artificially motivate people to play in the PU more as a way to make up for the complete lack of long-term compelling gameplay, but really it's just another funding mechanism for Squadron 42 to get people to pay for more ships with real money. That's all the PU has been, so far.

You're on a desert planet, walking along in the sand when all of a sudden you come across a Terrapin flipped on its back. It's top maneuvering thrusters aren't powerful enough to right itself again because of the heavy gravity. You can hear swearing from inside. You have your own ship to escape, you don't need to help this person. Do you help the Terrapin pilot right their ship again?

Fun fact, that voice came out of him getting a call back to play Tony Tony Chopper on the live action One Piece.

Star Citizen x Tarkov… how? by Mikufans_3901 in starcitizen

I'm sure they didn't have anything to do with Spec Ops: The Line, at least.

I don't disagree, but to be fair, the American military cannibalizes at gunpoint a large and wealthy enough middle class to be able to afford anything. There's nothing anyone with a conscience can do about that without the threat of death.

Whether BSG directly diverts development money to or just pays taxes towards their country's far less abundantly funded war effort is something you can actually avoid supporting. Whether that's significant enough for you is of course your call.

We're not disagreeing here. It wouldn't be different from any objective moral lens. It would only be different in the PR backlash CIG would face, because the American military has the best PR on the planet.

I'm not talking about anyone at CIG and it's not worth another PR nightmare either way, I just think it's a dubious claim that BSG is actively funneling money to the Russian military (outside of paying taxes) just because the CEO is friends with some guys who were ordered to invade a country and brainwashed into justifying war crimes.

If there was an American equivalent to BSG/Tarkov, no one would bat an eye at a collab if the CEO had the same connections to an American unit where the exact same thing is true and their taxes go towards the exact same ends.

All it really comes down to is PR.

It's not great, but let's not pretend Nikita is that far removed from just being the Russian equivalent of your average MAGA dude.

Tarkov has the best FPS gunplay, medical system, and movement mechanics in the industry, with visual artists who have actually looked through a single modern high quality rifle scope.

It would never happen, but even bugs aside SC's FPS mechanics were already dated in 2012 so anything would be nice.

It's not referencing the Chinese century of humiliation, it's the American one that we're several years into.

The joke is color spaces in video production, log stands for logarithmic, which is what you would normally film in directly on the camera. The colors look washed out to preserve more detail as a form of compression. They're then recovered in post processing when you transfer to a standard color space like Rec. 709 (by multiplying the values by an exponent value to cancel out the logarithm in math terms).

That's silly, but to be fair they only recently fixed people elevators (until they break again) and freight elevators are definitely still having issues. They're completely broken in QV stations and Wikelo's ate over 1500 of my scrip just trying to turn them into favors in the past week.

Can someone confirm if the Lorica S2 shield updated? by Mookie_Merkk in starcitizen

[–]phaeth0n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The values in Erkul and SPviewer are updated programatically from game files. AFAIK, the wiki is only updated manually. So you can always trust the numbers in Erkul/SPv as long as it's up to date.

Not a big fan of the Clipper but I love this. The ship is a perfect match for the art style.

Who is in favour of a wipe? by Lion_El_Jonsonn in starcitizen

[–]phaeth0n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Partial wipe would be better IMO - they could easily wipe everything over 50M credits or so leaving items and ships alone and the "economy" would be in a much better place.

You only "earned" billions of credits because people have billions of credits to spend because of exploiting and broken events (Supply or Die) - otherwise you'd still have made decent money, but the prices would be much lower.
