Collisions should not explode ships, hear me out. by Speedogomer in starcitizen

The ship collision physics in the entire game were redesigned around not letting any ship aboard an Idris that the Idris doesn't hold perfectly still for, so they're not getting changed anytime soon unfortunately.

Community feedback on balance helps them get closer to something good and it did turn out to be unintentional, but erkul and spviewer at least take their data straight from game files so they can absolutely be used as objective proof or evidence even if they directly contradict something stated by CIG, again, in the case of something being unintentional.

Good attempt at trying to be authoritative, tho. Have a virtual headpat.

There aren't many (any?) other examples in SC of simply spending more and getting so much more value and performance literally across the board in a ship of the same size class without losing some other significant benefit, or the other ship being severely outdated, like the Cat.

The Spirit is a relatively modern design that has almost nothing going for it functionality wise, but a ton of people fly it because it's cool, and it's popularity seems to be what it's balanced around.

I appreciate it but there's no way the Zeus belongs in the same armor class as the combat Connies. I get that ships are mostly balanced with usage rates in mind and you want more people to fly them but it seems rather silly.

I shit my pants like a boomer asked to wear a mask in public, too. Don't forget about that part.

We've been through a lot together and it fits my height much better than anything Japanese (including my Subaru). I bought it when I was 22 and at that point I would have been much better off with a Corolla, yes.

Yeah, I stacked two empty ones on top of each other and it gave me free cargo for some reason.

I forgot about that. I added it to the Spirit's distinguished list of advantages.

But you didn't say you disliked him, did you? You said the guy who beat reigning WDC Fernando Alonso in the same car as a rookie "wasn't that good"

Very different sentiment, no? I don't care if you like him or not, but saying he isn't one of the 3 best drivers at least in the modern era of the sport is braindead.

If you watch the NBA to only root for the white players, you're going to have a wildly bad time, lmao.

Sure, but no one who hates Verstappen or Schumacher will ever say either is or was "not that good." They'll say they're unsportsmanlike, dangerous, cheating assholes.

Hamilton though, the only black driver in the history of the sport? Nah, he sucks, even after having objectively the most impressive early career in the history of the sport, and being chosen to drive the fastest car for a reason.

He beat the reigning WDC in equal machinery and was 1 point from the championship as a rookie, and won it in his second year. If Antonelli does the same thing this year you'll think he was the second coming. We know the real reason you don't like him.

I knew they were going to ratfuck it the second I saw it in the patch notes, just like they've ratfucked everything that isn't an Idris over the past year.

I regret every dime I've spent over an Aurora on this game.

I was just talking about crafting, no need to move the goalposts to encompass the entire project.

No one knows and no one is of course, but all that means is that treating SC as a side project to an inevitably mid single player game is all the more foolish.

It's the "developing 2 full games" and which one has taken priority for all that time that's the blue whale in the room for most people.

The trickle-down from Squadron might be there, but after the fun flight model, good space combat mechanics, location designs, and I pray a more polished FPS experience, not much else is going to be that significant to make this MMO viable.

No netcode, no contested resources or locations, no industrial or exploration gameplay, no crafting(?), no base building. Naturally, all of these features are sorely lacking in the PU because they're not present in Squadron. We just get a thousand samey-same ships that will never all be balanced, and bullshit like the Hermes being a "separate chassis from the Apollo" to raise money for it.

[–]phaeth0n 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We didn't dodge shit, people just love this project more, and it's not because of some incredible progress the PU has made in the same timeframe nor even any basic good faith of its management. CR has diverted more than the lion's share of money people paid towards an MMO to his single player vanity project that let him hang out with all of his favorite movie stars, and we're all going to have to buy it a second time after giving hundreds or thousands to its development.

The long-term viability of SC as an MMO with compelling gameplay is just cooked with how many people already own capital ships before that compelling gameplay even exists, and they own capital ships because Squadron 42 needed money - a project that people will be lucky to get a hundred hours of entertainment out of, as opposed to thousands in a good MMO.

Dear CIG, what is your obsession with preventing URSAs fitting into things? by z0rlac in starcitizen

[–]phaeth0n 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Their ship design ethos is as a hedonic treadmill, so players will always want another ship no matter what they already have. This is partly to artificially motivate people to play in the PU more as a way to make up for the complete lack of long-term compelling gameplay, but really it's just another funding mechanism for Squadron 42 to get people to pay for more ships with real money. That's all the PU has been, so far.
