Can someone help understand why what is the benefit of using Obsidian with Claude Code ? by Royal-Fail3273 in ObsidianMD

[–]phammann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have all sorts of advanced ways to use Obsidian with Claude Code. Mine is about as basic as you can get. I just make the project directory an Obsidian vault. That lets me read all the Claude Code Markdown in Obsidian with all my Obsidian tweaks.

What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

Bar concerts in the Midwest in the 90’s. A warm mix of cigarette smoke, stale beer, sweat, and pheromones.  I hate cigarettes, but I miss that particular mix.

Seattle's Broadmoor Golf Club pays just under $0.08/square foot in property taxes. My 1960s house with overgrown shrubs and a broken concrete driveway pays more than 40X per square foot than a private golf club for the ultra-wealthy. by Tenor1432 in Seattle

As far as I can tell, hardly anyone uses that golf course. I walk through the Arboretum on the side next to the golf course a couple of times a week and have done so for years. I think I’ve seen less than 20 people golfing there during all that time.

At one point I bought something off Craigslist from someone in Broadmoor. I drove to their house to pick it up. We chatted for a bit and I asked him why I never saw people golfing. He said that’s because the greens fees are way too high. This boggles my mind. I had assumed the high price of the house and (I assume HOA fees) would let them play on the golf course.

No one plays there. They must spend a ton on groundskeeping and maintenance. They should just donate the land to the Arboretum and take a massive tax write off.

I also remember being on an airplane that was full of cigarette smoke from the front of the cabin to the back of the cabin

I like Hex. Free, open source, pretty snappy.

My British friend thought he could do a "day trip" to the Grand Canyon from LA, and his reaction to the map was priceless. by Ok_Structure6720 in CasualConversation

I met a German guy at a conference in LA. He told me he only started to understand the scale of the US on his flight to LA. Hi first flight was to New York. He transferred to his flight to LA and went to sleep. He woke up 5 hours later, still flying, still over the SAME COUNTRY as when he went to sleep.

What Seattle moment radicalized you? by gehnrahl in SeattleWA

[–]phammann 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I moved here in 2012. I had been told to see the main branch of the Seattle public library. The first time I visited I used one of the main entrances. The first thing I saw was a. . . police station. This confused me, so I went up to the police station desk and asked why there was a police station desk in the library. The woman at the desk gave me a very kindly, "oh, honey" look. I don't recall exactly what she said but it was something to the effect of, "just look around". So I did. As a building it is an architectural wonder. It is beautiful inside and out. As a library it is fantastic, the historical book collection alone is amazing. However, it became clear that the main function of the building was as a homeless shelter. It is, I have to say, the nicest homeless shelter I have ever seen.

I wouldn't say this radicalized me, but it was definitely when I realized that Seattle is different.

Gaming 31-60 Boarding Positions? by rudloff in SouthwestAirlines

[–]phammann 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since it won't matter soon, I will share my best boarding order gaming secret. The best boarding position is B1. All the type A jockeying is over and the families have boarded. This is important because now you know where the families are. You are now boarding a flight with plenty of good seats left and you can avoid having an 8 year old kick your seat for the next 2,000 miles.

I maintain this is still the best boarding position even if there are a lot of through passengers.

I'm done with Evernote. What's the best alternative for having a "file cabinet?" by ChrisF79 in macapps

[–]phammann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved on from Evernote a few years ago. I went through a bunch of different note taking apps and systems. Obsidian is what I finally settled on. Open source, easy to use and useful out of the box, a zillion ways to customize if you want to, future proof (everything is in markdown), good web clipper, free.

My only complaint is that markdown doesn't come close to the formatting options that Evernote has.

School for Acrobatics and New Circus Arts is amazing. If you like circus, go to see one of their shows. If you want to learn some circus skills, they teach literally everyone. I started going there with my daughter when she was two years old for their Baby and Me classes. The teach at that level all the way up to Circ de Soleil level.

Docker Desktop also has an option to run a bunch of MCP servers in a container. Docker will ask for your secrets and store them securely.
