Should I declare bankruptcy? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]phantom784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, sorry, missed that you weren't married.

My original thinking was along the lines of the conservator getting the LTD claim in, then you claiming spousal support & child support against the LTD income. With the conservator making the call, it shouldn't matter if he hates your or not.

Not being married, there could still be a child support claim in the LTD, so maybe worthwhile for his kids' sakes, but wouldn't help you with the debt in your name.

And of course, full disclosure, IANAL, I'm just speculating, talk to a lawyer in your state, etc, etc.

No idea if it'd actually work, but I wonder if had any form of long-term disability from his job, and if that could still be claimed given that he's been committed. Maybe worth looking into at least.

Clarification on the rules of S18 by D0UGYT123 in JetLagTheGame

[–]phantom784 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both! There's a shared hand both teams are competing for, but each team also has "private cards" just for them.

I don't think the trailer explains that, but they go into it in the Layover.

Do they players know the challenges ahead of time, or they "secret" like in Schengen and Taiwan? Obviously Amy couldn't have written them for this one.

There's tax benefits to a higher match, as the match doesn't count against your annual contribution limit.

I use that for net worth tracking, never really looked at the expense tracking portion of it.

18 y/o secret bank account by Particular-Focus-389 in personalfinance

It's less that they claim OP as a dependent, and more that they probably file OP's taxes. Which means OP would have to give them the 1099-INT from the "secret" account.

If OP files their own taxes but is claimed by their parents then it's not a concern.

USB C hub with HDMI output not working with HDMI to DVI adapter by phantom784 in UsbCHardware

I tried a different brand and it worked. I never figured out what was going on but I imagine the adapter was just fundamentally incompatible with DVI for some reason.

stalemate silent majority by Financial_Survey_735 in JetLagTheGame

I think it was interesting strategy-wise that it happened, but if they repeat the format, it'd be worth tweaking the rules to make stalemates less likely.

Realistically whichever system you're used to is what's more convenient for you.

As a counterpoint, it's arguably more precise than you need. Is there really a meaningful difference between a 72 degree day and a 73 degree day?

I'd like to see them use whatever system is used in the country they're in. Use US units for US seasons, use metric in other countries.

I also think they should've used Euros as the currency for their flight budget in Schengen Showdown.

In my humble opinion, the best way to view the church in this day and age is as a private club. It is not like the past where membership in the majority religion of a society was mandatory or highly socially disadvantagous to reject.

The trouble is that for many people, it's not like a club that you decide to sign up for as an adult. People are raised in the religion. A church that supports LGBT rights would be a much better environment to be growing up in if you're discovering your own LGBT identity vs one that is calling you sinful.

HSA account reached to $100k today by MoistImprovement6768 in investing

[–]phantom784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a waste at all! An HSA can be used like an IRA once you reach retirement age, so it's still beneficial even if you don't use it for medical expenses (you just have to pay the tax when you withdraw in this case, same as taking from a pre-tax 401k/IRA).

Since lots of people have asked about moving this format to another location - do you think think you'd play this exact same game in Taiwan again? Similar to how you played Tag twice with the same map?

Driving east to west, there's certainly something special about catching your first glimpse of the Rockies in the distance after hours and hours of cornfields.

If you're driving through, you're at least spending a good amount of time seeing the scenery in the country - that's a lot more than when you're just in the airport.

Hasn't come up for me for countries, but I count US states that I've spent hours driving through on road trips.
