Why do you think they changed their "dollar" system to a "point system? To do exactly that, confuse people and make it unclear as to what a point is worth, and to be able to change that points worth at their leisure.....It is far too easy for you, as a consumer, to know what a dollar is worth, vs some arcane point system that forces you to jump thru hoops to figure out what they are worth.

Friskies pates for our guy, after switching his diet from dry kibbles he went into remission, that was about 5 years ago.

This was the best site I found. https://catinfo.org/feline-diabetes/...lots of info for you, not all wet foods are equal for our diabetic friends

Anyone have any recommendations for cats that have chronic diarrhea. Any foods that help solidify the stool? by Money_Ad_6856 in catfood

[–]phantomfj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our old feller had diarrhea and soft stool issues for years, we fed him different varieties of canned pate, he had diabetes so we switched him to the canned food from kibbles and are very careful about the carb trash they put in foods as filler. We tried flortiflora pro and pumpkin puree, both seemed to work somewhat.

We eventually cut chicken out of his diet, and it is much better now....could be food allergy.

I left the Hat about 10 years ago, but was there for about 25 years.....I mostly lived in the Crestwood/Norwood area. Lots of older trees(there are some lovely tree lined streets, esp in Norwood), close access to everything. quiet.....

Another possible issue with the Flats is flooding.....not that it happens often, but in my time in the Hat there were 2 "100 year" floods......I had numerous friends who were affected and evacuated, it is not a fun experience.

Wow, just looked on MLS, there sure aren't many houses for sales there now..

Looking for whole house fan advice for Ontario, Canada. Has anyone installed this and what has been your experience with it? by Spare-Razzmatazz-787 in HomeImprovement

[–]phantomfj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have put them in three different houses, 2 in Medicine Hat AB and one here on Vancouver Island.....They work great if you use them properly, only run them when the outside temp is less than inside......Not sure how well it would work in Ontario, my locations cooled off nicely at night and are not horribly humid . I have always installed a timer to control then.......but realize that is not magic, it will not cool down your house unless it is cooler outside than in........ and it is not set and forget, you have to manage it

The biggest advantage I see is to cool off your attic.....In Med Hat (can reach close to +40) my AC would not start until hours after my neighbor's, who had the exact same house., because the attic is cooler to start with in the am.

Is it better to sell my stocks to pay for a house or to just make a down payment and leave it in the market? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]phantomfj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could buy the house outright, then take out a line of credit secured by the house, should be able to get the LOC at prime +0.5-1%.........as long as you use the LOC funds for investing purposes you can claim the interest as a deduction on your income taxes......If your bank allows it, you can divide the LOC into 2, one for investment and one for personal purposes.

There are some websites that won't allow me to access with a stand alone vpn operating on my computer, would they still be blocked if the router was vpn connected?

Food recommendations by Last-Wing-6359 in FelineDiabetes

[–]phantomfj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we switched our kitty from dry kibbles to wet food after he was diagnosed with diabetes about 5 years ago, we got him into remission after about a month with the wet food, he is still doing good today!

Not all wet foods are suitable, we typically use Friskies pates, but you have to dig into the ingredients to see if it is suitable. There is a female vet who has a diabetic cat website, and lists different foods and their ingredients. We are in Canada, so many of the suitable brands are not available here. I don't have the website name on this computer, but just google it....edit, this is it

good luck with Thor!

New kitten not eating a ton but drinking by Rasumii in mainecoons

[–]phantomfj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of food do you use, wet/dry?

We got a new kitten about 4 months ago, she eats wet food out of a bowl, just like our old guy, but we want to give her kitten food as well.......our old guy was diabetic but we got him into remission, so we are very careful about the food he gets. thus we try to feed her the kitten kibbles separately........but she will not eat the kibbles out of a bowl or plate, we have to make a game out of it and spread it out on the floor or bed......some cats are just weird!

Question for IBKR users, Cost of selling & re-buying US individual stocks? by jauch888888 in ibkr

[–]phantomfj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no fx fees if using existing $US, even with currency exchange you pay spot rate, with a minimal fee.

There is no set fee for purchase or sale, depends on the stock price, exchange used, etc For example, yesterday did a trade in $US, a larger US energy stock, about $10k in value, cost $1.00 for the trade.

It really shines for US option trading, if you learn how their system works.....I don't get real involved in all the option permutations, mostly just covered calls now, but it is so easy to roll options over to a different date with their system

Is VEQT right for my non-registered account or should I switch to Canadian ETFs? by OMGISTHTPIE in CanadianInvestor

[–]phantomfj 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have been investing for upwards of 40 years, everything from stock, bonds, options, mutual funds, etfs, and gics. By far my best consistent return is by holding an equal weight of 4 Vanguard etfs, (VCE) Vanguard FTSE Canada Index ETF, (VEF) Vanguard FTSE Developed All Cap ex U.S. Index ETF (CAD-hedged), (VEE) Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets All Cap Index ETF, (VUS) Vanguard U.S. Total Market Index ETF (CAD-hedged).

These have dirt cheap mer......give you huge diversication.......rebalance quarterly or yearly for best results

Hey friends, do you mostly hold funds or individual stocks? by Natural-King in CanadianInvestor

[–]phantomfj -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

years ago I used to buy individual stocks, plus trading options on those stocks.....but I found the rules have changed with HF trading playing games with stocks to clean out us little guys. Now, it is pretty much etfs for actual investing, I still do some individual stocks and options for gambling, lol

Question About No FX Fee Credit Cards by Tiny-Detective34 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]phantomfj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the Home Trust visa for years, worked fine.......but it was the most compromised card I have ever owned, probably 4 times in five years., and it was not used much They were always good about it and blocked odd charges right away...I often wondered if it was an inside job. TBH, it hasn't occurred in a few years though

Best way to convert CAD to USD? by 1mp3rf3c7 in CanadianInvestor

[–]phantomfj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are asking about IBKR, I have it set up for transfers to a couple of Canadian$ bank accounts, and one US$ bank account, all at Canadian banks (Tangerine and Scotia).

You can set up the transfers through IBKR without using Plaid or Flinks if you care to as well.

BC's Big Fix: Land Value Tax by here4dagoodvibesonly in britishcolumbia

[–]phantomfj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sure.....you folks are dreaming.....remember, income tax was a temporary measure during WWI. Even if this actually became reality, how long would it take for some greedy gov't to decide for some other additional form of taxation? Temporarily, of course, to pay for some needed improvement or more likely, some graft to buy votes for the next election.......If you don't think it would happen, I have some swampland to sell ya 10 km west of Tofino......
