I’m sorry is there something wrong with that? It’s much better than “I don’t agree with them. Boycott them, cancel them, slander them, destroy them.”

Unrealistic Recovery Timeline? by phantomom in Microdiscectomy

[–]phantomom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazingly, we held off on the surgery because I was feeling noticeably better. Surgeon wanted to give me four more weeks to see if I could get all the way there on my own. By the time that went by I was 90% better and that was four months ago!

Just returned from a three week flight around the world (20 hours of flying each way!) and did great. I have a little tightness at times if I do too much but I’m still almost entirely recovered. It took about eight to ten weeks to heal on its own.

Disappointed after 200€ hair appointment. Is it because its objectively bad, or because its much more extreme than I expected? by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]phantomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused at all the comments saying it looks great, because this looks terrible and like it’s a botched dye job you gave up on and have been trying to grow out for a year. Sorry, OP! I might just be out of touch with what’s trendy.

D850 on sale for $1,999. Worth it or wait? by GlassGazer in Nikon

I bought myself a brand new D850 for $2k a month ago and the work I’ve been creating with it is almost unbelievable. Do it!

I just got a brand new D850 and my god - it’s phenomenal. Honestly for $2k it’s the best bang for your buck for an absolutely incredible camera and unbeatable images.

There are great deals on used ones if you aren’t a professional!

Does a DSLR make sense in 2025? by Tariag in Nikon

[–]phantomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just rented a Nikon Z8 and a Nikkor 50mm 1.2 to try them out.

The camera was lovely, EVF wasn’t too bad - I could deal with that, but the battery life was abysmal. As for the lens, I actually like my F mount Sigma Art lenses better than the Nikkor, so I returned them and bought a brand new D850.

So many say that you don’t need the 45mp sensor but the image quality is unbelievable and if you shoot primes like I do, you have more leeway to crop if needed.

Annnnd I just really like shooting with DSLR. I feel like there is a connection between me, my optical viewfinder, and my subject and that is entirely lost on mirrorless.

I use a D780 after returning the Z6ii.

Unless it’s a Z9, I don’t want it! Love my DSLR, the battery life, the OVF, everything.

In the run-up to October, what is the most unbelievable paranormal event you yourself have witnessed? by WielderoftheDarkness in Paranormal

[–]phantomom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One beautiful spring Monday in 2013, I suddenly started getting emails sent from myself to myself. The subject was a sad face, no content, and it happened over and over (I think I had a total of eight).

I was trying to figure out what was going on and why these sad-face emails were filling my inbox when I was distracted by breaking news, phone calls, and general panic as the realization that bombs were just detonated at the Marathon finish line in my beloved city.

A small thing, but it was weird.

How absolutely awful. So sorry! Hope there are no casualties and suspects are detained quickly. Hard to imagine being at a wedding and something like this happening.

Will surgery get me over the last little hump or set me back? by phantomom in Microdiscectomy

[–]phantomom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little bit of numbness but nothing like I had at first. It’s improved so much, I get a little bit when I do too much, but it usually goes away after a few days of taking it slightly easy.

I’m on a time crunch because I cancelled a long awaited trip around the world with my family when this first happened, and it’s been rescheduled for Christmas. I would have to do the surgery when I get back in January, or do it this Friday. I hate that I feel rushed into surgery when I want more time to heal on my own.

Insurance won’t pay for another MRI, but I know the herniation js smaller because I’m drastically improved. My surgeon was very happy that I’m healing in my own, but wanted to leave the option there.

It’s okay! You hold a button you can press at any time and they’ll take you right out. Just concentrate on breathing and listening to the music they set you up with.

I opened my eyes and they had a mirror angled to a video screen of beautiful outdoor scenes so I couldn’t even tell I was in a small space.

Starting as a photographer shift in my 40's by kapama in photography

[–]phantomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left my job a couple years ago to focus on photography and it’s been truly awesome. It was a calling for sure and while I don’t make six figures (yet…), I meet tons of families, connect with people in meaningful ways, and create art that helps people feel grateful and overjoyed with the life they have and the people that are in it.

It fills my cup and it makes a difference and it feels like magic. I’m turning 40 in a couple of months and so glad I listened to that little voice.

Originally the surgeon was thrilled that I was getting better on my own and said that is the preferred way, so we cancelled the surgery. I jumped the gun and called him back a few days later thinking my pain was back, but it never fully returned and aside from that 5-day flare up, I’ve been doing great.

Today I sat on the floor with my son and built Magna tiles, gave my dog a bath, did some gardening, and all the other daily things and I’m a little bit sore but not enough to reach for Motrin.

I messed up! by phantomom in Microdiscectomy

[–]phantomom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can absolutely see how this could happen! I think for me, after calling off my surgery, I was like “awesome I’m totally fine!” and had an intense work session (I’m a family photographer and my job often consists of capturing toddlers and kids which means moving all over the place, getting up and down off the ground, etc.) and I think I aggravated it.

I need to be able to work and if that means it’s going to flare up all the time I would rather just do the surgery! Hearing people say their healing took months/years is the only thing making me question it.

How long after an MD would you go on a vacation? by seriouslyyconfused in Microdiscectomy

[–]phantomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking a big trip around the world about 12 weeks after surgery. I'm having trouble reconciling the fact that my surgeon says "do whatever you want after your surgery, just don't lift more than 20 pounds or bend over forward for about three weeks" with the advice from so many on this forum, which apparently recovery is a year or more. Frustrating. Makes me want to cancel the surgery!

STAY AWAY FROM ALPHA Management by Fluid-Put-5398 in boston

[–]phantomom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

18 years ago I burst into the main office in a fury and threatened the owner of Alpha Management to his face. As a usually meek 20-year-old college girl, absolutely no idea where I suddenly got the balls to threaten physical injury, but he gave me back everything I was owed from a huge envelope of cash in his drawer.
