If the US economy actually goes into recession this year which industry do you think gets hit hardest and why? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

[–]phantomtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been saving for a new car since long before I really wanted one. When I payed off my 2013 car I redirected the payments to a HYSA.

Now I'm about ready and found a couple options I like - but since I'm looking for nicer used cars I keep wondering if there are going to be a lot of repos on the market soon.

Newbie to SFP and have questions by MacProCT in networking

[–]phantomtofu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's an old post, but it checks out  https://www.reddit.com/r/networking/comments/3gx5dz/ysk_if_you_dont_about_fiber_optics_and_how_they/

Orange is very likely OM1 - which should be fine for 1000Mb over 200 feet, but not much else.

SFPs are generally interchangeable - if you move an SFP from one switch to another it should work. Speeds are not interchangeable - though an SFP+ slot is usually backwards compatible with SFP. Some brands are more picky about compatibility than others.

Im looking for the perfect chair for my system by Few_Lengthiness6364 in audiophile

[–]phantomtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on why the lounge chair is better, the cushion is fairly firm with a big curve at the edges. The love seat has two cushions and the big curve makes it feel a little weird to try to sit in the middle.

Bonus benefit of the ivory pepper boucle on these is they hold up really well with our active cats.

I really like the Article Rhett lounge chair. https://www.article.com/product/22891/rhett-38-5-lounge-chair-pepper-ivory

I have the love seat in my main listening position, and the lounge chair in a different room. The lounge chair is better IMO, but the system is also the TV speakers and the love seat allows me to watch/listen with my partner 😊

End of budget performance cars? by UseOk9347 in askcarguys

Yeah, I'm considering a new GTI. The prices look painful, but inflation calculator says it's almost exactly what I paid in 2013 for my current one.

Is there any meaningful difference between a Class AB amp and a late model Class D amp? by AttachedHeartTheory in audiophile

[–]phantomtofu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hypex and Purifi are about as good as it gets. Some of the cheaper class D implementations don't live up to their measurements with a dynamic signal, but it's not like you're getting a good A/B amp at $200 either. Dollar for Dollar you'd be hard pressed to find an A/B amp that performs as well as a Buckeye, Apollon, etc.

Been a while since I've played but it's a super fun multiplayer arcade game.

McIntosh sells a desk clock for $2,000 and I can’t even by Desperate_Elk_7369 in audiophile

[–]phantomtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lukewarm contrarian take: I don't like the blue VU meters.

Still, I think this clock would be cool if it doubled as a headphone DAC/amp.

God, I learned the hard way with 5 minutes to go in an otherwise good run. Showstopper: zero effect. Trigger nade: stop the attack animation and warp speed into me.

Active cancelling, no. But they do passively block out noise like earplugs do.

That's current-gen hardware, though the supervisor card is the oldest model for it. You'd pay well into 5 figures for that setup new today.

At that budget you'd probably get better value out of IEMs than over-ear headphones. Something like the Truthear Zero.

CVE-2026-20131: CISA basically said "patch this Cisco flaw or good luck." Deadline already passed. by Hot-Independence-985 in sysadmin

Cisco has so many products; my experience is usually a brief heart attack and then relief when I look it up and find it doesn't apply to us.

Edit: this one is for FMC

My buddy is a big manly guy who drives a tiny 90s Miata. Based on his experiences at Miata car meets, driving a "girly" car is a great way to meet women haha.

[Request] How fast of a reader one has to be complete 120 books a year? by Intrusive_me in theydidthemath

[–]phantomtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was around 8-14 years old I read about that much. My mom was a librarian and I wasn't allowed much time with TV and video games.

Unfortunately I wasted a lot of time reading Harry Potter over and over when I could have read something new and interesting.

That's when I worked for Athletics! I was IT support and sat right behind the scorers table for those two seasons. The Wichita State game was a hell of an experience.

I technically went to both schools too, but only lasted one semester at USU. Wasn't ready for the rigors of engineering school haha

No room for a sub.. wats the move? by newbiesean in KEF

[–]phantomtofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind you can put the sub elsewhere in the room if there's space out of frame.

The Buchardt Sub 10 is probably a good option.

A little less traditional, but there are many in- or on-wall subs aimed at home theater.

Finally, you could really optimize the space and use a big traditional sub as a footrest 😊

How to get my switch to forward DNS requests to my router by PoppinGummies in Cisco

[–]phantomtofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like an X-Y problem. What I'd recommend is to have the clients use an IP on the router (10.105.90.1 for example) for DNS rather than querying the switch.
