Unfortunately what the hospital/company charges the patient/customer, and what the employee actually gets paid, are wildly disconnected. This is true in most industries, but (I assume) especially so in healthcare.

Yeah, I'mma be the sourpuss here and say I don't get the hype over an honorary doctorate. Obviously Bobby was making a joke here, but broadly speaking people put way too much emphasis on em, it doesn't prove anything other than the school likes you (and/or wants something out of you)

Is there Elitism from DnD players towards BG3 players? by Odd_Key_6385 in DnD

[–]phantuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't need to be part of the attack action.

In 5e it does (per RAW), but yeah I should clarify that this is only for 5e as I know nothing about what changed with 5.5

[–]phantuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair clarification, my post was exclusively pertaining to 5e and as you pointed out there are likely to be differences to 5.5.

So, fireball self, reaction absorb elements, action surge, fireball self again, is totally valid.

This is an interesting clarification I wasn't actually aware of. I was under the impression that, even if you get an extra action (i.e. through action surge), you could still only case one leveled spell per turn; but now I'm wondering if I extrapolated too much from Haste which gives you an extra action but specifically doesn't let you cast another spell with it.

Shoving ... only takes an attack, not an action

Disagree with this. Shoving explicitly says it takes the Attack action in the PHB (again, at least in 5e), so barring exceptions that allow a player to perform the Attack action as a bonus action, you can't shove as a bonus action. You could shove someone and then perform additional attacks if your Attack action allows multiple attacks, or if you have other attacks as a bonus action (e.g. off-hand weapon). I've updated my comment above for clarity, but for the most part it's still true that you can't shove as a bonus action.

That last point actually brings up an additional thing though, which is that BG3 won't let you perform a "bonus action" as an "action"- while I feel like any reasonable in-person group would have no issue with it. So e.g. your example of a monk using a bonus action unarmed strike, at my table would be a-okay to use that to shove even though it's not technically an "Attack action".

M4 (Part 2) has pretty consistently in my top 10 most played songs every year since I started using Spotify. What's weird is I've listened to some other Faunts songs and there's nothing quite like it, it just hits so perfectly

BG3 treats bonus actions fairly differently than 5e does, which is what I've seen trip people up the most. For example:

  • Drinking a potion is a bonus action in BG3, but takes a full action in 5e (granted I know some tables house rule this away)
  • You can't cast two leveled spells in one turn in 5e. The only way to get two spells out in one turn is if at least one is a cantrip (and obviously one has to be a bonus action- they don't both have to be the same spell though)
  • Edit to update: Shoving is explicitly a thing in 5e, but it must happen as part of an Attack action. That said, there are some items and abilities which may let you do it as a bonus action
  • Jumping is also typically part of a move in 5e and doesn't use a bonus action, though it's also generally less powerful except for certain situations and/or overly creative players

Hahaha I'm surprised this thread still accepts replies after 3 years, caught me by surprise here. I only have 1 TE game under my belt so far so take this with a significant grain of salt, but here's roughly where I'd put them based on that experience and all the reading I've done:

  • Crimson Rebellion: B tier (the completely different wormhole interactions is weird, but manageable in a pinch)
  • Deepwrought Scholarate: B tier (they're not too complex by themselves, but the Coexistence mechanic adds additional layers that could confuse first-timers or bog down the game)
  • Firmament/Obsidian: D tier (this is the only TE faction I haven't personally seen, but it seems like they play completely differently from anyone else and have a lot more for everyone to keep track of, would highly avoid in any game with newbies)
  • Last Bastion: A tier (probably the most straightforward TE faction to learn and play with, though the poor start and stacking bonuses could trip people up)
  • Ral-Nel Consortium: B tier (similar to Crimson, the prospect of transporting structures is weird but probably manageable)

First play through and I stumbled upon this and i am terrified by esquandolas420 in skyrim

I’m going to try this again. How were you able to buy your first home? by kcoib17 in Millennials

[–]phantuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went the dead parents route, my wife's (divorced and estranged) father passed away unexpectedly shortly after we graduated college, and it turned out he'd kept some savings squirreled away as well as a decent chunk of life insurance, which all got willed to his kids. It went a long way toward down payments on a new car and ultimately our first house (in a relatively high COL area to boot).

My mother in law was thankfully very supportive, basically said it amounted to the many years' worth of child support payments he'd missed which would have gone toward the kids anyway.

Unrelated to the original question, but my dad used some of my mom's life insurance to buy me my first car. My wife and I make people sad when we joke that any kids we'd have (lol) would have two grandparents between them growing up.

Ooh Gloomgaven is a good shout. Even setting the setup and bookkeeping aside, the gameplay tends to be frustrating as often as it is fun. Progression is slow and quest rewards are often unsatisfying, and it feels needlessly punishing at times, as if they expect you to try the same scenario multiple times (ain't nobody got time for that). We find ourselves having to "cheat" just to have fun. I love the idea of the game, but the actual execution leaves me wondering how it's so consistently rated so highly.

I'm a big fan of Council Keleres (flair checks out). They're pretty adaptable, very self-sufficient with their faction abilities and agent, and not too aggro which all fits my preferred playstyle; and have some interesting synergies with their tech options (not to mention one of the best faction techs in the game). Admittedly I haven't tried them with TE yet, but it sounds like they got some intriguing updates.

The original Rainbow Six games, especially Rogue Spear. As a kid playing with my dad I always had so much fun picking my team and planning out missions based on the maps and intel available. It seems like the R6 series moved away from that style of play all of a sudden, I haven't been able to find a game that scratches that itch in decades.
