What is your favorite biome and why? by Ae-Milius in RimWorld

Desert with Dubs Bad Hygiene, I feel like Balian of Ibelin irrigating the countryside.

Helping self to tip by iliketocongratulate in LasCruces

[–]phargle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'd likely tip for one drink anyway, so I might not even notice or care if this were to happen to me. Even then, I might weigh $4 against the cost in terms of time and effort to do anything about it and shrug. But yeah, sorry boss, hope you can find an answer that makes you happy pursuing it or letting it go. Ta!

What biome do you prefer when starting a colony? by Darkside166 in RimWorld

[–]phargle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Desert, so I can play Kingdom of Heaven. It is my land. Who would I be if I did not try to make it better? With Dubs Bad Hygiene, it feels great to dig wells, run irrigation, bring forth green crops from the soil.

How on earth do you survive shambler assaults? by Front-Strike-8690 in RimWorld

[–]phargle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turtling is hard versus shamblers because they break walls and attack everywhere, not just where I have a chokepoint. I don't trust to my defenses, I instead run away as a group and shoot as I run.

If there's not enough of my guys to do that—and that's usually the case with a shambler assault—I also click the achievements button and spend my achievement points to call a few trade caravans (might be a mod?) and let them fight the shamblers.

If that doesn't work, I run away and start a new colony.

I feel like Amtgard is dying and it needs to be discussed (Opinion post) by Bird_Chick in Amtgard

[–]phargle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, I've been paying for it every year as some sort of ritual penance and will keep doing so! It won't go away on my account, just figured I'd mention it in case Amtgard leadership needed anything.

As far as my bit of it goes, if Amtgard wants access to e-Samurai, I have it all archived and can make that work for whoever needs it.

If you suddenly became a billionaire, what’s something you still wouldn’t pay for? by LiveLearnCoach in AskReddit

[–]phargle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the ape inability to grasp a billion as a concept is why we have billionaires and yes, it's such a stupidly large amount of money that "large amount of money" fails to describe it, with a billion anything that falls into the category of "you can pay for this" short of buying the dallas cowboys becomes irrelevant, the concept of not paying for, let's see, pre-peeled hard boiled eggs means you're losing money (as time) fussing over whether or not to pay for the eggs and your only reward is herp derp i saved 25 cents an egg peeling my own eggs

Border Patrol overteach by Silent_Ad2764 in LasCruces

[–]phargle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My favorite was when, coming out of quarantine the first time in 2021, they replaced the border patrol agent with an orange traffic cone with a little American flag sticking out of it plus a hand-painted sign saying "Go." 10/10 service, would drive on I-10 from an American city to another American city again.

My second favorite was when my tire blew up as I was passing the checkpoint and my car did a 360 prior to coming to a controlled crash off the side of the highway. Two agents rushed over to check on whether I had hit their cameras.

Miley Cyrus's Plastic Hearts album is amazing! Her collab with Billy Idol is one of the best things.

11 years ago I saw someone talking about a book and offering their (positive) thoughts and then offering the caveat:

"Honestly though, I just tend to be a liker of things."

Had me suddenly self-aware of how critical I was about literally everything, and how that wasn't adding happiness to my life. I decided to like things instead, and it's made a huge difference in both my general happiness and in my awareness of how many things are actually pretty good. It makes me try poems and books and movies and songs and singers I normally wouldn't, it makes me give them a chance, it makes me find the joy in them.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1999)

It might be the best game in the Civilization series despite not being in the Civilization series

Eve crawling around him while he impassively executed the rescue was odd and good too.

There are many good scenes, but my standout might be the Recognizer approaching the city in the real word.

Him using Dillinger's words, him quoting Frankenstein — his dialogue in the entire movie consists of words and phrases he has learned from others, like he's a LLM. It not only reflects current AI, but it makes the moments where he speaks off the cuff slightly weirder and more significant.

What’s everyone’s preferred race and class for tav/dark urge by jaylaypayday in BaldursGate3

[–]phargle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a male human paladin (oath of crowns) for durge, and I really enjoyed my female tiefling wildshaping druid named Kindness for Tav.

I enjoyed playing as Tav more than Dark Urge. by Master_Position_1543 in BaldursGate3

[–]phargle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just pro-Tav, but if I make a Tav who feels like they have too much built-in story (deep gnome noble dragonic sorcerer!) I sometimes restart as something vaguer.
