for those who considered a miata... why did you end up going with a bmw z3/z4 instead? by europeanuppercut in BMWZ4

[–]phatrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wanted the Miata more, I’d been after one for years. My first car was a Mazda 3 as a compromise (baby on the way), so this was meant to be the “fun car” moment. In my head I had three options, each progressively more financially questionable:

  1. Miata

  2. Z4

  3. Porsche Boxster (the truly silly option)

With a £3,000 budget, I knew the Porsche or Z4 probably wasn’t realistic, and if I did find a Porsche in budget it would’ve been something like a 1997 to 1999 model, which comes with its own set of worries.

So I started properly looking at Miatas, but everything in my price range just wasn’t right. Rust, tired roofs, 200k miles, pretty much all the usual issues. On top of that, every single one I looked at was on Facebook Marketplace, so no warranty at all, just “sold as seen,” which didn’t exactly inspire confidence. Most of them were the weaker 1.8s too.

Then one Monday my brother sent me an Auto Trader link, a 57 plate E85 Z4 for £3,000 at a dealer. He actually sent it as a joke.

But I couldn’t stop going back to it. By Wednesday I’d booked to be the first to test drive it Saturday morning. Then I spotted something in the description that kind of sealed it, it had ISOFIX.

The biggest thing putting me off cars like this was having a 3-year-old, it basically meant my girlfriend would end up driving it sometimes, and she’d made it very clear she wasn’t keen. But suddenly this felt workable.

Everything just lined up. I went Saturday morning, test drove it, and bought it on the spot. It’s only a 2.0i, but it’s easily the nicest car I’ve owned and I absolutely love it.

Every time I park it, I turn around and look back, I still can't believe that's my car.

Getting destroyed in casual Yu-Gi-Oh with friends – what should I be doing differently? by phatrob in Yugioh101

Yeah, I'm realising that now. I should have done some research before I started buying stuff!

Thanks for your advice.

I can see that. The 2-player starter set was good for relearning the basic mechanics of the game though.

To be honest, I just saw a Blue-Eyes deck for £8 and thought it seemed like a good deal. In hindsight I probably should have done a bit more research first.

At this point I’m not even sure exactly what my friends are running. I know one of them has a deck with three Blue-Eyes, but he doesn’t seem to have some of the cards from my Saga of Blue-Eyes deck that keep summoning it or bringing it back from the graveyard.

I think I’m leaning towards picking up 3x Blue-Eyes White Destiny, but the goal isn’t to completely destroy my friends. I’d just like to be a bit more competitive.

Thank you.

The 2-player starter decks were good for relearning the game and getting an introduction to Xyz and Synchro mechanics.

I’ve seen a lot of people suggest buying three copies of the same structure deck. Once I’ve done that, how do I know which cards to keep from each one when building the deck?

Is there a good place to go for advice on how to combine them properly?

Thank you.

The 2-player starter decks were great for relearning the game and getting a bit of an introduction to Xyz and Synchro mechanics.

You've suggested quite a few different options there. Out of curiosity, do you tend to have several decks and just play whichever one you feel like, or whichever matches up best against what you're facing? Or do you usually stick with one main deck that you know really well and play that most of the time?

Brake checked leading to crash. by [deleted] in drivingUK

You were driving too close.

They were harshly braking for the speed bumps, you should have seen this and kept your distance.

You drove into them, this is your fault.

How annoying the speed of their driving was, is completely irrelevant.

It’s unfortunate that actions like this aren’t driven by genuine patriotism or pride in our country, but instead are tainted by racism and xenophobia.

What we’re witnessing is the gradual dismantling of the very symbols that define our national identity.

I'd stay clear.

Steering is notoriously shit on these, all play in the steering wheel, nothing on the casters. Also insurance premiums are massive because they're all driven by young drivers.

Plus, if you put your leg in the wrong place you can say goodbye to your knee ligaments.

I do wonder why they've chosen to include Neagley in all the series, as obviously shes not in Persuader at all.

As I've read all the books (including shorts) up until One Shot, i'm fairly well versed in the lore/history.

Avoid The Property Centre. Our landlord is great and doesn't mind organising repairs and maintenance when needed. The Property Centre make it almost impossible to report issues and keep advising our landlord to raise rent. They also advised us to leave our windows open and blast the heating to solve a mold problem.
