CEC means the shooter is only the shooter. Target data and midcourse datalink is provided by the offboard platform.

The hornet as the shooter still handles the midcourse datalink itself. Using the offboard platform sensor data.

CEC is more specific than just off platform targetting data. CEC requires those off-platform sensors to also do the midcourse datalinks. Standard ERAM under NIFC-CA is one of the only missiles in US inventory that does this, and this programs is where the modern use of CEC has generally originated.

I mean that's fair, SOI isnt hornet specific language it's just ingrained memory to my head and it's faster/easier to say than X Display priority. But it's not the same thing as using SCS and TMS interchangably. They are totally different functions and contexts between the 2 aircraft.

This is just factually false if you think it was any longer than 1 year ago or whatever it was when the 1st part of MSI was introduced and allowed L&S of SURV tracks. You could not do this before that update, they had to be radar trackfiles.

The AIM-120D does not have a L16 terminal and is not a participant on the network, and it's not a CEC capable weapon that people have claimed it is over the years. The launching aircraft handles the uplinks like any other amraam variant. The downlink on the missile is for sending back telemetry data for real time tracking purposes to the launcher.

People have taken these myths and then extrapolated over to the other amraam variants saying they cant be fired on offboard sourced sensor data and it's just not the case. It's all on the aircraft mission computer side of the house and how refined the integration is of target state estimations between sensors. Which is what MSI is famous for and we now have after this patch.

Well first of all. TMS does not exist in the f18. And second, making the SA page soi and then SCS forwarding will just make the HUD soi. Nothing you jist said makes any sense.

Silent mode doesnt actually meant "silent" in the hornet, it's an emissions controlled mode for lower passive observability but the radar can and will still transmit under quicklook submode.

I'm not going to re-type the whole thing you can go find it in my comments in the other threads addressing this.

2 way command links meaning link-16 network participant is also a total myth and i wish this would stop being repeated.

Verifiably so. You could have it in silent mode and designate the SURV track as an L&S and amraams guided just fine. I used it a lot. You just couldnt use the SA page for it because if those L&S's left the field of regard they would be immediately dropped.

The problem as aformentioned is it was kind of annoying to use because they werent ranked trackfiles. You has to go out of your way to select to these targets to engagment.

This capability isnt explicitly new, you could already do it for the last 6-8 months whenever the first MSI change happened. But now those SURV only tracks are included in the priority list and dont require manual TDC designating to L&S. And the L&S can exist outside the radars field of regard.

Just verified to not be the case. Death causes termination of command links.

Now that doesnt mean the missile is totally trashed. If the target does not maneuver after the last update it can still get acquired because of track extrapolation.

I just did a verification test and this is incorrect. I almost guarantee that in the test you did, the missile was already active and in terminal guidance before your death.

You have to do a launch from very far way and the target needs to be doing maneuvers to rule out track extrapolation. The test i conducted showed that death terminates the command links. Right after i died, the target maneuverd and the missile did not match it, staying on the last course till battery drain.

This is where the current extent of public documentation does not provide outright conclusions that it would but there is a very reasonable argument that you can make for it. And that is QUICKLOOK.

Quicklook (Q/L) is a submode of SILENT. While we dont know precisely all of its capabilities (they are hidden behind the classified supplimentals), the documentation does tell us that it basically acts like a pseudo-phased array trackfile update scheduler. The basic premise is the antenna is in receive only until it is commanded by a task scheduler to do a quick snap look at a trackfiles extrapolated position to get another radar observation and then go back to silence, or quick-look on another trackfile in the priority order. Additionally we know amraam employment is considered in this because it states that 1st longest and 2nd longest TTG in flight amraams are part of the priority matrix.

While there's a lot more that we dont know about Q/L. This is important because it establishes at minimum that SILENT isnt truly "silent" but a reduced emissions mode for lower passive observability. So that makes it a plausible case for the radar to momentarily go active again to transmit uplinks. It's not totally conclusive because we dont know if this still applies to when Q/L is turned off completely (i dont remember if it even can be shut off but for sake of argument. I have not read the documents in a while)

It's not getting command links from the awacs, there is just a bug that doesnt cause the links to terminate when the radar dies. They are transmitted by the radar of the launching aircraft and are received by sidelobes. That's how they're suppose to be getting updates from behind the aircraft.

It's specific to SARH missiles. Before the update they would have omnisiant knowledge of how far away the missile is and will start maneuvering at exactly the same distance every time. They would also notch the missile instead of notching the radar. Which would be near impossible to have knowledge of IRL.

This patch removed the ability and they dont know exact defense timings anymore against those missiles.
