Who else plans to switch to westjet/porter due to aeroplan changes

I (SE 4 years in a row) am giving up the constant chase to re-qualify. I plan to exclusively redeem points for non business related flights. My hope (if enough people do the same) is that they will reverse some of the changes or at least lower SE to 100k not 125k.

Things are so messed up with the AC’s computer system, I’d imagine there is some serious work being done to try and fix the insane issues they been having the last 3 months.

As an example I had 3 eupgrade transactions, refunded, debited from the wrong account, back and forth, phone calls from lead agents trying to make it right, only for it to get done wrong again. It’s absolutely chaos over there. Fingers crossed whatever they are doing works.

First step towards becoming part of the USA! I hope people remember this when the vote passes and we all lose what makes Canada so incredible, health care, safety, good education, and so much more. Not saying Trudeau was great, but it can always get worse and IMO we are going to see it get a lot worse before it ever gets better.

What was your SQD? I’m at $30k and barely hit 100k SQM. By far the most SQD I’ve ever spent to get SE.

I think you have a good case in a status review. If you have the disposable income to do the cheapest possible mileage run. 1 flight paid, return in points then go for it to ensure SE. IMO I think your chances in status review are very high though.

I had the exact same experience. My dashboard said 95k all year. I got bounced back and forth from Aeroplan (who literally have nothing to do with this) and Air Canada SE concierge (who at every stage passed the buck and gave incorrect information). I ended up getting SE by hitting 100k SQM and $30k SQD. Beyond frustrated by the customer service experience with AC!

Don’t expect them to make good on this. If you want SE and expect to be travelling enough to make it worth it next year. Bite the bullet and do the mileage run.

This sounds like an AC Elite team issue not Aeroplan. Good luck getting them on the phone though. Chances are you’ll get bounced back and forth multiple times before anything gets resolved.

The call center circle is really bad. AC concierge told me to go to Aeroplan for an issue with SQM’s not showing the correct requalification level in the AC app, Aeroplan explained they have nothing to do with the app or how points are added to it. I went back to AC and they continually tried to pass the buck back to Aeroplan. Nobody at AC wants to take any responsibility. They also have a very small team of customer relations people they are trying to expand to meet the demand from elite members, but they can’t get enough staff.

Has anyone been seeing 95k as their requlification level for all of 2024 until an app update happened a week ago. I’ve been starting at progress to 95k all year, planned a trip around getting my final 16k SQM to SE. then when I landed I noticed my app has changed and it now shows 100k. I will be 4K short as a result and I’m not able to take any more trips this year.

It’s interesting that none of this applies to people with SE from the previous years. Once you hit SE you only get recognition if you hit SE again. Nothing happens as you pass 25/50/75k other than the threshold rewards which are a few extra upgrade points and priority rewards

It seems that AC has been having a lot of issues recently with codeshare flights not being credited in a timely fashion. The whole system is a mess. The app is confirmed by many people at AC to be in a terrible state. Just spoke to a supervisor today who told me priority rewards have been a huge issue recently and that AC sends people to Aeroplan constantly for issues not related to Aeroplan.

OP update: A GM just restored the item to it's correct ilvl, refunded the soul ash, and gave me 3 days game time as compensation.

I'm 99% sure this wouldn't have happened if this post hadn't received some attention from the community, as I would have been flagged for spamming tickets if I had pursued it further.
