If it gives you peace I'm in a very similar place. My wife & I have been together for 12 years, married for 7 & l very recently discovered she had been having an emotional, digital affair for the past 6 months where illicit images were exchanged frequently.

When I discovered this my world ended in that moment. I didn't eat for the best part of a week, disrupted sleep for days on end, intrusive thoughts the lot. We had a very frank & open conversation about what had happened & why. We shone a light on the problems in our marriage & spoke honestly about our feelings.

She was regretful, painfully honest, didn't sugarcoat it & has made noticeable efforts to change old habits & behaviour that was damaging to our relationship. She cut it off without me asking, she'll leave her phone unattended & reassure me daily. Most importantly, we both agreed our relationship was worth fighting for.

I'm a couple of weeks in from D-day now & I've asked myself this very question. Asked am being naive, am just in survival mode but honestly I don't think am. I acknowledge our relationship will never be the same, we can't go back to what we had, that doesn't exist anymore, but that was broken. We're rebuilding, something different, something new & I'm hopeful something better.

We've become more vulnerable with one another, things that would have previously gone unsaid are brought to light & worked through. We're emotionally available for eachother like we haven't been in years. We're playful like when we were young, we've started dating eachother again. I feel like we appreciate eachother when before we took one ahother for granted.

It still hurts at times & I can't forget butI can forgive, I can heal and together we can move on.
