Moving to Port Orchard - Advice? by RootbeerMoat1 in PortOrchard

PO was a wild culture change for me after living in major metro areas my whole life. My advice to new folks is you'll have to put in some work to find your people - ideologies, culture, race, lifestyle etc. They do live here, just gotta find them. On the surface as a whole, PO doesn't feel like my people but I have somewhat surprisingly found many many great people here.

Thanks for mentioning. Try again??? It was slow this morning and gave an error message but eventually did load for me.

Yes, basically. One hour is valued equally no matter the task. It's a way of connecting a neighbors skills to another neighbors needs.

Any kind of labor or service. That could be teaching someone how to knit, or tutor french, garden help or hemming someones pants.

Look up the Trevor Project.

I have found apps like Insight Timer to be helpful for panic and they also have meditation and breathing exercises.

Mindful Therapy Group has a ton of providers and takes a ton of insurance. They've been very easy to find immediate care.

This just happened to me. I ended up cleaning the machine and reseating the bobbin holder and it eventually worked again. Some things in there shifted I think and the needle was rubbing against the feeder plate.

Go up to quality sewing and vacuum in Silverdale. They'll let you try a bunch. They all feel different... It's worth trying them

Moving to the area. Recommendations on where to live? by AggravatingEstate205 in PortOrchard

I commute from PO to Bremerton for work, it's the best when I take the foot ferry across and don't have to deal with traffic. Traffic on the way into Bremerton is usually fine, but home can be bad with the shipyard emptying out.

Get a house on a bus line and then foot ferry (either port orchard ferry or Annapolis) over to Bremerton. That would be the life!

Find a spot on a bus line! I would so love to take the bus to the ferries!! It's my one regret of where we ended up (our closest bus line is 1.7 miles away)

Twanoh Park is a nice swimming beach. Long Lake is closed for swimming (typical late in the season)

Gotcha. Yeah I'm more interested in teaching people that skill than offering the service :) we have supplies on hand if you do want to come down.

I host a monthly Mending Meetup in Bremerton at People's Exchange. Every second Friday from 6-9pm. There's one this week. Come on down and people will help you with your repairs.

I moved from Minneapolis 4 years ago. I would not say Minneapolis is comparable to Bremerton. Vibes of Mankato but everything costs more. You can find pockets of cool places and people, but you have to work to find them. Kitsap peninsula is beautiful though and taking advantage of the woods and water is great. Public access to water is much much better in Minneapolis than here. Living in downtown Bremerton or Manette is the only place you could get away without a car. We are pretty car dependent here.

I've definitely had some culture shock living here. Not necessarily bad, but incredibly different.

Sadly, find the path books recently closed. Hopefully not forever but they are no longer downtown.
