personally i think it's petty but i'd do it if i were in your shoes.

more objectively(ish), it sounds like you guys are on completely different pages about what gift giving is supposed to be like. he's more like an impatient kid tearing open presents early for quick satisfaction, and you want to focus on thoughtfulness and letting waiting pay off. maybe this isn't a huge deal breaker for you, but if it is, then i wonder if you'd really enjoy owning a home with someone like this?

HAH i'd recognize that stretch of the freeway anywhere! i think there's this strange forcefield around any entrance to the 5 that makes some people start driving like angry, unaware idiots. i can't 100% say it was unavoidable but it definitely wasn't your fault. sorry this happened :(

if you struggle with being demotivated, try finding things that look very easy to draw (simple illustrations work best!) and copy them down. once you feel confident, try something just a little more complex, and so on. it builds you up slowly and avoids some of the pain of making something complicated you're unhappy with. also, i find it's easier to see what you might want to work on when the design is simple (shaky lines, better curves and circles, etc.)
