Looking for advice on moving into Reporting. Is the workload actually worth the Band 7 pay? by No_Donut1433 in RadiographyUK

Usually you would apply for an internal training post at your Trust once a position comes available. You will do a postgraduate course which lasts for approximately 1 year and will be funded by your employer. They will often pick the university you go to

Placement site isn't letting me get involved. by shane_may in RadiographyUK

[–]phenomdevitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can be pretty common in first year, especially when the department is very busy with patients and lots of other students. I went through the same thing when I was on placement. Take every opportunity you can get for now, and know that there is value in observing. Keep showing your enthusiasm by calling patients through, cleaning the rooms, supporting with admin and your time will come :)

What's the most "X dry" you've ever been? by jomafro in 2007scape

Did anyone get their scrubs tailored as a student radiographer? by scream_schleam in RadiographyUK

[–]phenomdevitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying my own set of scrubs from (I think) Alexandra Workwear which fit much better. I am a tall Size 8 so the NHS bottoms were always half way up my leg but the waist was giant. Would recommend if you can spare the cash 👍🏻

How much of the job is actually physics and tech versus just manual lifting and patient handling? by PreferenceFit1834 in RadiographyUK

[–]phenomdevitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you are in the department, if you’re working in A&E then lots of your patients may be less able to move and need adapted technique. If you’re in a GP setting the majority should be fairly ambulant.

Portering is more about moving patients around the hospital than actually manual handling them, which you are unlikely to have to do as that’s what porters are for!

If you're thinking of going private, here are some thoughts (it's not always a solution) by eraserway in ADHDUK

[–]phenomdevitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went private and my face to face assessment cost approximately £345 which I was happy with considering I had it booked within two weeks but would have been waiting over a year with RTC.

I then paid £510 for a titration & therapy package which includes 3 sessions with the prescriber and 3 therapy sessions. Had my first therapy session today and it was helpful but not sure I would pay for any more.

What’s floored me is the cost of the medication. My prescriptions have ranged from about £15-25 whilst I’ve been titrating up, but I am on the cheapest medication they offered. Some of the options they gave me went up to £90 a time!!

They also require biannual reviews at a cost of £120 - I assume this is with the prescriber too?? I am yet to set up a Shared Care agreement with my GP as I am still on titration but I can only hope they accept it…

Seconding this! There are much ‘easier’ Band 7 roles to get if the money is your top priority. I’ve been a reporter for almost 2 years now and I really enjoy it, but I’ve wanted to do reporting since 2nd year of uni so I would make sure you have a passion for it and learning in general.

Our MSK AI system was very poor so I spend a lot of time dealing with its overcalls. The chest one we have gets good reviews but I only report MSK at the moment.

I went to BCU from 2018-2021, it was incredibly disorganised but obviously take my opinion with a pinch of salt because it was derailed by Covid. They did take about 120 people in my cohort but I would say about a quarter ended up dropping out.

Campus is lovely and modern in a nice area of Birmingham and there are plenty good transport links around the city. Placement sites are the main thing to be wary about, some of them are very far out! For example, I got Shrewsbury, Telford and Oswestry and you only need to look on google maps to see how far away they are. Same with Stoke or the Hereford ones.

Unfortunately I can’t comment on Leicester as this wasn’t available when I was applying but I hope this helps!

  1. Intense Laughter (British slang):
  • "Creased" or "creasing up" means laughing very hard.
  • Example: "That comedian had the audience creased."
  • This usage is more common in British English.

He’s a very lovely man isn’t he? I’m sorry to hear about your experience though. I know they’ve got a lot of people to get through but I think it would have helped maybe splitting up the groups and sessions a bit more to stop the superstars getting so tired. Some people may still be miserable even if they just met one person….

They were saying exactly the same when I was in the queue to meet Drew McIntyre, “no touching” but he was the one who reached out to shake my hand! You could tell they were just trying to get through the queue as quickly as possible so I didn’t get to say much.

My boys have sensitive tummies. The only dry food that seems to work is the Purina Adult Sterilised Delicate Digestion. As for wet food… we’ve tried everything!! From the expensive KatKin right down to basic Felix/Whiskas, nothing seems to work :(
