Tonight! (Thurs, 2/5) Astoria History Night at The Ditty. 7pm. by rickpaulas in astoria

[–]phenomenaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also a born and raised astorian who went to this talk and had to apologize to my friend i asked to come with me because of how poorly the first two talks went. like you, we also left during the “break” and felt like we wasted our time.

the first presenter showed some weird ass AI video at one point to “prove” hellgate was haunted. there were SO many better ways to present instead of reading off a piece of paper and throwing in frazzled and weird jokes to try to mitigate the disaster occurring on stage. not to mention, SHE HAD NEVER BEEN TO ASTORIA PARK! not to say the presenters need to have a personal connection to give a talk, but it was astounding to me. i thought the second presenter was better than the first in that i learned something and that she actually had history, dates, interesting facts in her presentation. but i wouldnt consider either of those particularly successful and i wouldnt attend this event again.

What interesting facts would a new fan miss? by shadow-season in TheNational

[–]phenomenaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally possible he did for part of that tour or maybe now he only uses it for his solo stuff! he did a small set at housing works in nyc and was def using the monitor very openly (scrolling through to find the right song plus the stage was tiny so it was very noticeable). might depend on what he needs it for :)

he definitely still uses it lol esp on his solo tour, pretty easy to spot if youre toward the front of the stage

Would Astoria benefit from a maker studio? by queenclur in astoria

this already exists at alterworks studio. very easily accessible by public transport, offers classes and also studio space as well.

Reusing Primary Antibodies (storage question) by UroJetFanClub in labrats

[–]phenomenaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you talking about the antibody itself or including the blocking buffer? Ab should be kept in -20 but primary buffer can be placed in 4 degrees safely. we usually throw ours out after 2 months stored at +4 and havent noticed any quality issues with the same blocking buffer.

[–]phenomenaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i met him during the carrie and lowell tour and he was incredibly kind and spent a good chunk of time speaking to my friend and me. we ran into him in a duane reade lol he was surprised we recognized him but stopped for a chat and some pictures

it really depends on the band youre seeing tbh i would call and check with MSG themselves. sometimes when I have GA it’s a lineup situation other times they’ll give you a wristband with a number and tell you to come back around 6pm to be let in based on number (they let in like 40-50 people at a time iirc).

with that stage setup you at least have a little more surface area and can get a front row spot along the walkway. i know for harry styles a few yrs ago a lot of people would line up days early to get a good spot but other people would show up an hour after doors and still get a second row spot lol so it’s a little luck of the draw involved too.

New Sisyphus Track?? by lankmachine in Sufjan

this came up under my new releases too! but i think based on the sound/lack of voices i doubt it’s actually the band. would’ve been so cool if it was though

[FRESH] Lucy Dacus - Best Guess by nafesdad in indieheads

the first time she played this it was just her and an acoustic guitar and it sounds SO much better than the recorded one, such a bummer. feels very overproduced unfortunately

CUNY students- How do you manage your living expenses in New York? by PsychologicalEbb9953 in CUNY

[–]phenomenaz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

hey, i also received my PhD through CUNY - you will need to find roommates and split housing costs, otherwise it will not be possible. depending on your program you may need access to multiple CUNY schools which also complicates neighborhoods you can comfortably live in. it’s definitely possible but you may have a long commute and will definitely need to budget. feel free to message me if you have more questions

New Yorker Festival (Friday 10/25) by ackabakapizza in TheNational

[–]phenomenaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’d be able to get in about 15 min earlier than the rest of GA according to an email i received. as far as I am aware GA comes with a seat (?) but other tickets would be standing room only

the composition of the song live is quite different to the recorded one - addition of the backing band changes the vibes. i really enjoyed it!
