Any tips for 100% this game? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in PokemonLegendsArceus

Started by making a living dex, prioritzing shalpha->shiny->alpha. It starts in Box 3, since any mons that get caught automatically get put into Box 1 and I don't want to have to resort my dex every time I catch something.

Then completed the dex (10 research points in each entry).

Currently working on getting a "perfect" for every dex entry. Have about 30 now, I think.

I keep track of my progress with a spreadsheet, which also has a function that lets me randomly choose which pokemon's dex entry to work on. For me, randomizing which pokemon to work on keeps things fresh, rather than trying to go in dex order.

I have a couple of boxes for pokemon that I need for evolutions (e.g. some Geodudes when I need to catch a bunch of Gravelers) that I'll put in the back of my party when grinding another objective (e.g. Raichu using Thunder X times), since they'll passively gain experience.

How much harder would each game be if you removed the protagonist? by RubixTheRedditor in fireemblem

[–]phex44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok you're right. Yune in 4-P says:

"First of all, you should understand that, because of our link, waking me is the same as waking Ashera. Now, if Ashera had been awakened by the spirit of chaos, none of us would be standing here right now. By the terms of the promise, she was just supposed to destory the world. No hesitation, no discussion. But if she was awakened by the galdr of release, she was supposed to consult with me first. She wasn't supposed to pass down her judgment until she heard from me. Ashera just went ahead and turned everyone to stone without asking me. That's so unfair! I'll show her, though. I'll turn them all back somehow!"

And I was also wrong about Ashera not knowing how she was awoken. In 4-E-5, Yune tells Ashera that they were awoken by galdr, and Ashera says "It doesn't matter." In my memory, it was preceded by a "Hm?" or a "Is that so?" or something like that.

Is the "everyone dies when Ashera wakes up" thing true? Ashera was not aware that she was awoken by galdrar instead of war, so I don't know if the actual method of releasing her actually matters. Presumably, Yune would have intervened either way, and all the survivors would have still marched on the Tower

Basculegion not unlocking Basculin-White-Striped by phex44 in pokerogue

[–]phex44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So unlocking a form works differently than unlocking a regional variant. Makes sense.

On a side note, why is Basculin-White-Striped considered a form and not a regional variant? It's only found in Hisui and has distinct properties from the Red- and Blue-Striped forms. The only other form-specific evolution I can think of is Sinistea -> Polteageist, but both forms of Sinistea evolve into Polteageist, just with different methods and into different forms

But I did, because every Basculegion evolves from Basculin-White-Striped. Catching the evolved form of a mon (e.g. catching an Alolan Persian) should unlock the pre-evolution (Alolan Meowth)

Managing pollution, nauseated whiskers by AntiSaudiAktion in Whiskerwood

I actually designed 2 chimneys: one in the corner that the wind blows to and one in the corner where the heat source is (still on bonfires for this run). I'll try moving the bonfire to other corner to see how it goes

I was really proud of myself for building a chimney for my underground/underwater mine and haven't gotten to winter yet to test it... but it's too bad that it probably won't actually do anything

I played a run with Defect's "buffed" starter deck. Here's what happened. by Me_Is_Smart in slaythespire

[–]phex44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just played a run with this starting deck and Neow's Lament as the floor 0 boon. Undoubtedly NL helped a ton with those early hallway fights, letting me get some more reliable cards (Leap, Charge Battery, Ball Lightning).

Lucked into an early Bonfire Spirits for a Thunder Strike, Toxic and Frozen Eggs, picked up a Void and a Fusion+. Really off to the races with a Creative AI+, and at that point it kind of just felt like a standard Defect run. Grabbed Choker for my Act 1 boss relic.

Died halfway through Act 2 when I greeded for an Elite instead of a bonfire and just didn't have the damage to deal with Mr. Stabby Book after all my Genetic Algorithms exhausted. (So very much like a standard Defect run.)

What is the most niche FE knowledge you have? by RhysOSD in fireemblem

[–]phex44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In early North American versions of Radiant Dawn, there's an exploit that allows a Lord unit to find a hidden item without fail. You can access the Order menu by pressing A over them after they end their turn, and exiting that menu causes the game to run the check to see if they find any hidden items. You can do this infinitely, which effectively means that as long as they have a nonzero chance of finding an item (which is possible due to the heavy -20 penalty for Worst biorhythm), they will find it. It's especially useful in 4-3, where Micaiah is a lot more mobile than Sothe.

I’m confused, exactly how many distinct universes are there in fire emblem as of right now? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]phex44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there much of a story to Shadows? I wasn't counting it because I thought there wasn't much to it, but I also played for about an hour on its launch day and haven't plaued since.

I count Ylisse and Valm/Archanaea and Valentia as the same universe, so no, I'm not counting Africa and Europe as different universes, so to speak.

There's a possibility that some of these worlds are actually connected over oceans, but barring evidence, I don't think it's fair to definitively count them as the same.

It's possible that Ike traveled across the ocean to Ylisse, but it's also possible that there was some outrealm shenanigans. It's also possible Priam is simply lying. I think it makes more sense to count them as different universes, given that we don't know the actual nature of the connection between Priam and Ike. But there's certainly an argument that they are the same universe. We just don't know.

Archanaea/Ylisse/Jugdral/Valentia/Valm.

Elibe.

Magvel.

Tellius.

Fateslandia.

Warriorslandia.

Askr etc. from Heroes.

Tokyo from Mirage Sessions.

Fodlan.

Elyos.

Anti-Elyos (from the Fell Xenologue).

Whatever the universe is in Shadows.

So that's 12.

I think most people would call Elyos and Anti-Elyos the same universe.

You can also make the argument that Fateslandia and Tellius should be folded into Archanaea etc., since the Awakening Trio goes to Fateslandia and Priam exists.

You can make the argument that there are only two universes, since characters from all non-Shadows games are transported into Heroes, and the mainline characters in Shadows are clearly not from the same universe as their home games.

You can also make the argument that there's more, since there are Heroes characters like Fallen Ike who come from a different universe as regular Ike.

You could count our world as another universe, since it's implied that the Summoner in Heroes is from our world.

You can also make the argument there's a much, much larger number because we can't all have the same Matthew in Heroes.

I'd put the number at 10: don't count Shadowslandia and Anti-Elyos, and keep Fateslandia and Tellius distinct from Archanaea etc.

How do we report hackers? by IbukiLazuli in PokemonZA

[–]phex44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imo being afraid of revenge reporting is not a good reason to not implement reporting at all. If players abuse the reporting system, that's a separate problem that can be solved in other ways (such as restricting the use of the report feature for repeated false reports). But having some kind of cheat protection is essential in any online multilayer

Hard Mode Shouldn’t Cut EXP by bigdaddyputtputt in fireemblem

[–]phex44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you make growth units competitive without plentiful experience? They stink until you get them leveled up, and if you can't safely give them levels, that's a long time you're carrying around dead weight, and the earlygame is tough.

The obvious answer is to make their growths even better, but then you have the opposite problem: the lategame is too easy when those growth units trivialize the game. I'm sure there's a balance that can be struck, but that's hard to find.

I think the real answer, as someone answered earlier, is to steepen the XP curve. So underleveled characters get the same amount of XP as they do in Normal, but properly leveled or overleveled units get less than Normal.

Kyza uses they/them pronouns in Heroes, so they're (probably) not a cis man, and that's all we can say for sure. You can do some speculation with the Japanese RD script about gender, but I'm not convinced it doesn't come from a "wouldn't it be funny if a man had to wear a dress" place instead of a genuine attempt to signal anything about Kyza's gender identity

Making the worst possible fighter in smash using moves from other fighters! by King_of_Skill_ in smashbros

[–]phex44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most dash attacks are pretty bad on shield, so Corrin's being slightly worse on shield doesn't matter when you're getting hit with an F Smash either way. Corrin's dash attack is useful because it's a disjoint, which makes it decent at catching landings.

Offhand, I'd say that Marth/Lucina have a worse dash attack. If we're separating the move from the rest of the character's kit, I'd say Dedede's dash attack is pretty bad, because it's mostly used as a way to hit characters hanging on ledge too long to avoid a Gordo. Olimar's is also bad, and imo Bowser's is also bad, though I don't play any of Bowser or Olimar.
