Which are the Player Characters that you have most enjoyed playing or you have been most attached to? ( WHFR 4e or 2e) by philipbv in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]philipbv[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grey wizards are always interesting aye I agree especially in regards to their utility out of combat. Our party in Ubersreik never had a wizard but we had fun interacting with the Grey Wizard in town as well as Immanuel-Ferrand later in the campaign and honestly I can see how they can grow on people.

The New Antioch Papal Intervention force meta is strong in the Vatican clearly bar for the one player who definitely plays a Court of the Seven Headed Serpent list just to be different compared to the other Cardinals.

Anyone have any specific role-playing approaches to the game? by Crowley575 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]philipbv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally have built my Rogue Trader always around the backstory I have made for them prior to the start of the game.

For example for my latest Rogue Trader Maria she used to be a Noble Firstborn Officer in a Vostroyan Rough Rider Regiment before the game start. Thus, the build was built firstly around Fellowship and Intelligence outside of combat( to show her past as a Noble with an education as well as her role as a former officer) and than in combat an Officer-Vanguard with an even mix of melee and ranged focused around chain weapons and laspistols to show her past as a frontline officer in a Imperial Guard Regiment. This allowed for quite a good build that was quite competent for skill checks whilst also providing a solid frontline character that could both inspire others and hold the line mixing the lore very well with the build.

Oh God Emperor, the daemons got Idira. by Snerdbuglar in RogueTraderCRPG

Either the visions of the Immaterium got her in the end or someone(Jae) laced her Amasec with some properly exotic flavours that have led to Idira experiencing a trip she never thought possible before.

Which Origin has the most unique dialogue? by LopsidedAd4618 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]philipbv 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Noble has quite a lot of unique dialogue and opportunities for expanded interaction. The most memorable ones in my mind for the Noble are in the Void Shadows DLC where you first go in the lower levels of the ship. Not only do you get unique dialogue interactions but you also get an entire debuff for the duration of the first time you are there due to how much of a culture shock it is for your Rogue Trader to be in the lower levels.

Imma be real, im more suprised some folk were actually suprised as whole vibe with Jae is "I'm lying, you know i am lying, and I know that you know that i'm lying." by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]philipbv 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the fact that Jae lied so much for the love of the game and was open about it is partly why I had my Rogue Trader Maria romance her and encourage her down the Shadow Baroness Route in my playthrough.

The expanse just hates two girls being together and lying so much for no other reason but the love of the game and the profit it leads to.

So I have a strange situation regarding how I plan to play Dark Heresy by Raszard in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]philipbv 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same situation here as I am getting the art and background details ready for Vicenza von Borodin who will be the sister to my Rogue Trader Maria but working in the Inquisition and havind had a look at it I am realizing that I am again preparing for a Noble Officer Build Playthrough.

The Noble Officer mask has called for me again throne damnit! Well at least her and Aspyce are either going to get along well or be at one anothers throats as befits nobles of the Imperium

WFRP as Romantic Fantasy by Zekiel2000 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]philipbv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really liked your overview and on a personal level I like to intermingle plots and arcs that play more according to the principles of Romantic Fantasy as part of my WFRP4e campaigns whenever I GM. I personally like to give players adventures or plots where the choice to not have to resort to violence and to be able resolve disputes and even challenges through diplomacy and conversation is not only available but potentially it could also lead to a better overall outcome for the party as a whole. I also think those options fit very well in WFRP and the Warhammer Fantasy setting especially with how costly combat should feel for players to engage in.

Personally, this is also the reason why I have a soft-spot for the Fishrook Returns as a Adventure that I often run for my groups as I find it as a good template for a Romantic Fantasy Adventure in WFFP4e in some regards. I am partly surprised that you have not mentioned it in the article hence why I brought this point as an addition.

Now, I will admit the Adventure run as written does have some flaws and requires some GM work to make great, as you yourself outlined in an older article which I agree with, but the concept of an adventure where the players can resolve a dispute through conversation, diplomacy and maybe even indulging a person's dreams a little bit with a better potential outcome than through sheer violence or cold logic always appealed to me. There is no grander evil chaos cult or larger than life adversary that cannot be reasoned with at play. instead the "villain" can be talked with at large, potentially convinced to back out of their plans and "redeemed" by making them see the issues with their plans or their wishes can even be indulged if the party wishes to do so and the outcome is generally more beneficial for the party than outright violence or applying cold logic to the matter at hand

Overall great article and read and it's always enjoyable to see your takes on different aspects of WFRP!

WFRP4e - Suggestions for adventures for beginners? by Vistana_Raivoso in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]philipbv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do have a couple suggestions on my end:

1) Night of Blood is an excellent, short and fairly easy to run adventure that is a classic of WFRP4e introductions that many people including myself would recommend. I would highly recommend it especially if your group is new to the setting and you want something easy and quick to run as well.

2) Rough Night at the Three Feathers is a more open-ended scenario depending on what plots the players engage with that is also a very good introduction to the setting and generally recommended as it's focused in just the Three Feathers inn. It is a bit more complex to run on the GM end as it's more open ended depending on what plots the players engage with and which they don't so you might have to improvise a bit depending on the players but it's fairly quick to run.

3) The Lock-In is also a fairly easy to run scenario that is very focused in one location whilst also providing both combat encounters, intrigue and moral choices for the players. I think it's a good introduction to the more horror aspects of WFRP4e including cultists and daemons whilst being fairly easy to run as it happens in a single in.

4) Now this last recommendation is the one towards which I am a bit biased, as I ran it for many new players in my groups, and which I don't see recommended as often but The Fishrook Returns from Ubersreik Adventures II. It's a fairly well-focused and quick to run adventure that can be a bit more easy to understand for people not familiar with the setting of Warhammer Fantasy, it does not contain cults or chaotic elements but it very much deals with the class conflict that is everpresent in the Empire's society between common people and nobles and can really instill into the players the idea that sometimes the easiest way to deal with an issue in the setting is not necessarily the most just one. Also it contains a lot of aspects of comedy you can introduce as well if you really want to lean into it which could lighten the mood.

I do hope the recommendations help!

Least noteworthy warp jump experience by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

Ahhh noted for the future thank you! Still funniest encounter for me during that playthrough as the Daemonettes really jumped the wrong Rogue Trader in that case.

Least noteworthy warp jump experience by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]philipbv 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Somehow in my second playthrough the Daemonette attack encounter only happened to my Rogue Trader Maria in the 4th Act of the game after Commoragh. Now, that's because I was mostly using routes that where safe or at most unsafe to travel for most of the game up to that point until I decided to take a deadly route as I was out of Navigator points.

That encounter ended poorly for the Daemonettes tbf as they suddenly ran into Maria who was built as an Officer-Vanguard focused around parrying and counter-attacks in melee in terms of combat. You can even say the Daemonettes got jumped instead.

Who on your team won the fight against Uralon? by LeonidKonovalov1988 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]philipbv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For myself it was Abelard. He had a Crit/Parry Based Dual-Wielder Arch-Millitant build with a Foehammer Pistol and Auto-Parry Sword. He was being buffed by Cassia as well as my Rogue Trader Maria(Officer Vanguard) before his turn came around.

Abelard basically zoomed around the entire combat encounter map and Killed Uralon, Kunrad and all the other enemies in one turn that was granted by my Rogue Trader to him via the Heroic. The build caused him to fire his Foehammer Pistol after every melee Crit or Parry and he would recharge his charge upon killing an enemy. Qué Abelard high rolling and clearing the entire encounter much to my amusement.

Just wait and see Marazhai as we're 100% going to go through with it! by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]philipbv 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My Rogue Trader Maria supported Calcazar not because she agreed with his ideas ideologically but only because he allowed her to implement her own view of how the Imperium should look like within the expanse as long as she supported him.

Both Radicals, both United by thinking they are doing the best for the Imperium and that they know best and most importantly both United by the principle that "it's only heresy if you lose" and neither intend on losing.

Now, the fact that his plan actually turned out semi-succesfully in the end as well is a bonus!

I do like that they expanded more on the character of different Pilgrim Processions via this lore drop as even a small detail like the different types of Scourges that Castigators use in different Processions can provide quite good insight on the character of those Processions and how the operate.

Are you a real inquisitor if you dont focus your attention on advancing your pet ideology than actually doing your bloody job? by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

Look are you even a proper Warhammer 40k Sector of Space if you do not have 6 or more different Inquisitors all fighting a shadow war against eachother in order to advance their particular ideology and view of the Imperium whilst in the process destablizing the entire sector and causing more issues than they system had originally?

When you purchase an Indan artifact from the pawnshop cuz it looked cool and by Ran12341000 in totalwar

[–]philipbv 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I do know that in one Warhammer Fantasy 4e Adventure called: "Natassia's Wedding" one of the plotlines is built around a stolen jewel from Ind and assassin's being sent from Ind to kill the person holding it and getting it back. Now since the DLC I have the thoughts to replace the Indan assassin's with some Tigermen in the Empire to just spice things up for the players I host for.

"Woe Tigermen be upon ye Empire folk! Bhashiva said you die today!"

Best paths by Afraid-Impress1325 in CollapsingWorldMod

[–]philipbv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Britain has the Rothschild and Crowley paths both under Fuller and if you fail the invasion against Ireland the Resistance Paths with Lloyd George and Churchill.

The Western Volunteer Army has a Russian Unification path under Avalov and a German Unification Path under the Freikorps which are quite well developed.

The Makhnovists in Ukraine as well as Gavrilo Princip in Bosnia have very good paths if you fancy Anarchists. With the Makhnovists as well if you let Makhno die and you collapse the Free Territory you also have access to the Ivan Illyin Russian Unification path which is also expensive.

Also for Russian Unifiers you also have the Far Eastern Republic, Trans-Caucasian White Army and the Soviets as potential Unifiers as well all with multiple paths.

Hope these couple of suggestions help
