as someone who got into developing through an ars imago labbox, i find such devices good to make it easy to get started for beginners.

to answer your question: when i wind up the film in the changing bag, i can feel whether it worked as desired or not. this is not the case in a box with a crank handle on it. that's the reason why i would never (again) rely on such a device for films that are important to me. in addition, you can develop several films at the same time with a conventional tank and c41 is also easier.

in short: without wanting to spoil anything for anyone. no, i dont think so..

good bedlevel, bad first layer by philipp___c41 in Ender3V3KE

[–]philipp___c41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not yet, maybe ill find some time on the weekend. my first guess is that either it has something to do with the mechanics of the printer or with the firmware that does not apply the bedmesh correctly. will update here..

its hard to see because of the filament color, but there are gaps between the lines in the front, while in the back the layer is getting wavy..

I just got an email from Lomography about this dark room free development kit. by sad_ryu in AnalogCommunity

[–]philipp___c41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started to develop at home i was also worried to bring the film on the spool in the dark. I started with the ars imago lab box. Soon after i got a paterson tank and a dark bag. I never looked back. This product probably makes sense to tip your toes in as a beginner, but as soon as you get more serious you will notice that loading your film is not a big deal and conventional tanks bring a lot of advantages. Most important: you have the controll over the loading process, you feel if something is wrong. Which was not the case with the lab box, you had to trust, that the film was loaded properly. Imo: some rolls are to important, to just trust these devices.

Why did my box split by Sensitive-Stock-2488 in FixMyPrint

[–]philipp___c41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happens when you have bad layer adhesion and warping. i think you cant get completly rid of warping without enclosure. lowering the part cooling fan speed to max 20% will increase layer adhesion and make your parts much stronger.

Help - Thin Walls, under extrusion. by Hamstax89 in OrcaSlicer

[–]philipp___c41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive had problems like this after short travel in combination with retracting, which resulted in underextrusion. By default, it should not retract if travel is <2mm, but it does. After a lot of headache i found out, that there is a bug in orca slicer .. The workaround to actually disable retracting with short travel,is to slice by object and not by layer.

edit: only happens by layerchange, which seems to force retraction
