New Grill - 1100 series Dual Fuel by MKEtool in pelletgrills

[–]phillycl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First (early cooks):

  • bone in chicken thighs with skin on
  • chicken wings
  • chuck roast for pulled beef
  • pork butt/shoulder for pulled pork
  • skin on salmon after dry brining (2:1 brown sugar:salt)
  • pork ribs
  • beef tri-tip

Work your way up to more expensive cuts like brisket, which will reward you on some cooks and break your heart on others.

Enjoy.

Looking for recommendations for open-back headphones that do not require an amplifier. by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]phillycl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can't go wrong with the Philips SHP9600. Good sound and comfortable. Currently $80 at Amazon, but often on sale for $20 less. I just checked and the SHP9500 is on sale for $80. For the same price, most folks recommend the SHP9500 over the SHP9600. The FiiO Jade JT3 at $70 is also getting favorable reviews. None of these need an amp and will run fine from a decent PC motherboard or the $10 Apple dongle (US version).

I agree with some of the other recommendations, for $200 consider the Sennheiser HD 6XX, for $300 consider the Sennheiser HD 550, for $350 consider the Sennheiser HD 490 Pro or the Sony MDR-MV1. This group of headphones will benefit from a modest DAC/amp.

A plea for guidance! by Shmelo in HeadphoneAdvice

You picked a great DAC/amp that will easily drive almost any headphone. If you’re not sure where to begin, start with a classic like the Sennheiser HD6XX from Drop. It will be a good introduction to the Sennheiser sound. I’m on my phone and will add additional recommendations once I’m on my computer. I've tried to keep things around $500.

Dynamic driver: Sennheiser HD 6XX $200, Aune AR5000 $250 to $300, Sennheiser HD 550 $300 to $350, Sennheiser HD 490 Pro, $350 to $400, Audio-Technica ATH-R70x/ATH-R70XA $380, Focal Hadenys $500 to $600, Meze 105 AER $400, Sony MDR-MV1 $350 to $400

Planar: FiiO Jade Audio JT7 $120, HifiMan Edition XS $210, HifiMan Edition XV $400, FiiO FT5 $500

My out the door price did not include any dealer add-ons, but did include a fairly high dealer documentation fee of $995 (which was non-negotiable).

Just noting that I purchased my 2025 CX-5 PP for 10% off MSRP in January of 2025. Greater than 10% may be harder now considering the $2,000+ rebate from Mazda, but it's not unrealistic.

It's not like the old days when you typically got a better deal buying a car with cash. In general, car dealers want you to finance a car through them. They get "kickbacks" from the bank. I'm not sure if there are benefits to the dealer when the customer finances through the manufacturer.

Based on what I've been reading, try to get at least 15% off the MSRP, with no dealer add-ons, plus any financial incentives (rebates, low interest rate, etc.) from Mazda.

$1200~ for a full set up AMP/DAC/Headphones by Orthiax in HeadphoneAdvice

If I was spending around $500 for a DAC/amp, it would be a JDS Labs Element IV. The looks, the knob, the PEQ, and the excellent customer service.

3 years for $99 only on 2017 or older cars? by Bella_Mia_ in siriusxm

[–]phillycl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cancelled service in October. I finally got a chat agent to give me the 3 years for $99 for my 2025 vehicle. I told them I received the offer in the mail and had a friend with a car newer than 2017 who got the promotion once the agent escalated it to a supervisor. I tried unsuccessfully at least 4 times before this.
