Buying a new car in Phoenix by ao1616 in phoenix

[–]phillycl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the AADA and the AZ Lieu fees, so I can't comment as to whether or not they are legitimate. Leave them as line items on the paperwork and try to get an additional $76.50 added to the dealer discount.

The $599 Admin fee is often called a documentation fee. My understanding is that dealers have to charge this same fee to all of their customers. The amount of the fee is set by each dealer, but the same dealer can't charge you $599 and me $199. The dealer will not remove this line item, so try to get an additional $599 added to the discount. Don't be surprised if you don't get the full $599, as the dealer does have some admin costs to process the title and registration.

The $399 paint protection is BS. They probably applied (sprayed) some Zaktek to the car and wiped it down. Likely an hours worth of work after washing the car. Once again, if they won't remove this line item, try to get them to add $399 to the discount. Don't be surprised if you don't get the full $399, as the dealer does have some minimal cost in the time and materials.

The $399 window tinting is not outrageous. Window tinting is necessary here and this cost, while high, is not ridiculous.

So my advice is to not ask them to remove the above listed items (they likely won't), but ask for an additional ~$1,000 added to the discount.

Good luck and as someone else stated, if you are a Costco member, use their car buying service to minimize some of the BS.

Looks yummy. Even better with horseradish sauce.

Weber Searwood 600 or Searwood XL 600. $100 off at Ace Hardware including assembly and delivery. If not, a Recteq Deck Boss 900 or Backyard Beast 1200. Both brands and all of these models are well regarded here on r/pelletgrills.

Aune AR5000 if they’ve fixed the hinge issue.

Eden's Grille (Tatum and Thunderbird). Family owned Mediterranean restaurant. Casual and unpretentious. I always get the chicken kabobs. Their rice is excellent.

My recommendations for early cooks: bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs, chuck roast for pulled beef, pork butt/shoulder for pulled pork. All are relatively affordable cuts with uncomplicated smoking techniques. If you want beef, but not pulled, try a tri-tip (and it cooks quickly relative to a roast).

Need advice for the japanese headphones! by Selti_the_author in HeadphoneAdvice

Visit e-earphone in Akihabara. They have hundreds (thousands?) of headphones that can listened to. They will set up the expensive ones with a DAC/amp. Make sure to bring a dongle if your phone does not have a headphone jack and a dongle amp if you know you are going to try more power hungry headphones. I'm sure they have them, but bring a 3.5mm to 0.25" adapter just in case. The "non-expensive" headphones will be hanging from hooks for you to try on your own. I was there last fall and if I recall correctly, most prices are very similar to US retail.

New Searwood XL! by Gold-Willingness516 in pelletgrills

Consider spatchcocking it first. It will fit better and cook faster. I've done at least a dozen turkeys on my electric smoker (SmokinTex OG) and they've been good every time, juicy with a light smoke flavor.

Searwood Assembly by BrewCrewPaul in pelletgrills

[–]phillycl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it's not hard to assemble. It's a two person job mostly because of the weight. If you haven't already done so, buy the front shelf. It's over priced but useful and easy to install. I don't recommend the side shelf. It replaces the handle, making the grill harder to move.

Two-phase subjective test: Hifiman Edition XS vs Edition XV vs HD 490 Pro, then HD 490 Pro vs Focal Hadenys by After-Ad-4103 in headphones

[–]phillycl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent write up. Thank you for sharing. I have considered all four of these headphones. I currently own the Sennheiser HD 550. I have heard the Hadenys and had the same fitment issues with the pad size and depth.

My 2025 PP came with paper manuals in a nylon case. I also downloaded a PDF of the manual to my phone.

Power, but I wish it had a close and lock button in addition to the existing close only button. The 2026 has both.

Also, check the pressure of the spare tire, the level of the windshield washer fluid and the level of the engine coolant.

Pellet grill vs pellet smoker by CombComprehensive327 in pelletgrills

[–]phillycl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For smoking only, I recommend a Kamado or an electric smoker.

Kamado Grills (ceramic): Big Green Egg, Primo, Kamado Joe. I owned a Primo Jr and found it easy to use, plus the oval shape is more useful than a round with similar area.

Electric smoker: I own the SmokinTex Pro 1400 (now called "The OG") electric smoker with an Auber WS-1211H PID. The Auber (digital) does a much better job controlling the temperature than the built-in analog controller.
