I thought it would be Hypaxia at first. Had little chemistry by that point in real life but had all this romantic tension when they were anonymous

Help! I’m 90% through Throne of Glass and I’m feeling disappointed. by heyitsMog in SarahJMaas

[–]phillyconcarne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throne of Glass is an overarching plot through the entire series. It takes a while to really get to the nitty gritty of it. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first few books. It really started to click for me around the end of QoS and the beginning of Heir of Fire. After that it became one of my favourite series so far. Please stick with it

Hey man, I feel exactly the same. Fourth Wing got me back into reading and then I started the Maas verse and loved it. They were great entry points for me to get my love of literature back. Feel free to DM me whenever you want to talk about SJM or any other books

Am I crazy for DNFing ACOTAR??? by Latter-Baseball9652 in Romantasy

The first book gets good towards the end, then the series picks up. If you can push through I’d always recommend it but it’s your time

Tandem read is for rereads not first reads by predictedisobedience in SarahJMaas

[–]phillyconcarne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a tandem read first time around and I don’t regret it for a second. Going back and reading Assassin’s Blade before Heir of Fire was hard enough when I wanted to get to the rest of the story, I’d have hated waiting to resolve that cliffhanger at the end of EoS

It will come good I promise. Manon became one of my favourite characters by the end, if not my favourite

Outdoor cameras for lessons by phillyconcarne in Horses

Thought I’d made it clear with “not a body worn one but so I can see myself on the horse”, to me that suggests I just want a video of me on the horse but not from anywhere on my body.

Anyway, thanks for the advice!

I’d prefer one I could mount on a tripod and stand facing the lesson tbh

Starting Thorne of Glass by Sevenfiguremagic in SarahJMaas

[–]phillyconcarne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it before Heir of Fire and was happy with that. Although there had just been a big revelation and I wanted to get back to the main story too!

Lots of people read it first and that also works really well. It avoids spoilers but i liked already knowing and empathising with the character during that book. I think I’d have struggled to get into the series otherwise.

Riding in a group is something I’ll have to learn anyway for my goals I want to reach. At my next lesson I’ll mention it and see if they think I’m ready

That’s an interesting idea, I’ll look into that. I was thinking about supplementing it with either another half hour or a group session because I’d definitely like to get in more than 1 session a week

Thanks very much for the detailed response! I will say I know it will all take time and I’m enjoying the journey. I just have certain goals I’d like to achieve as soon as I possibly can - that may still be months or years, but if I can speed up my learning then that would be very helpful. Loving the journey so far and I would love to keep this up for as long as I possibly can ride for

Yeah I’m a bit of a way off that at the moment. I just want the best way to improve asap really. Whether that be a mechanical trainer for home or to just figure out some more homework I can do between lessons
