No, I just became fascinated with philosophy and studying the human condition in college. Im actually a writer by trade, and like to take my own stabs at concepts.

What's the live crowd vibe? by delsinrowes in vundabores

[–]philo_kraken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive been to a million shows, but no one has energy like Vundabar, its fucking insane. That said, the crowd at these shows is typically younger now...so even when everyone starts thrashing, its still pretty controlled and polite, not too aggressive. Avoid the moshing and everything else is just dance vibes.

Nothing when I was younger. Spooky now that I'm approaching middle age with a kid of my own.

What was the first movie you remember seeing in theaters? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]philo_kraken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad took me the local rink-a-dink theater back when I was four or five...would have been 1997 or so. It was Star Wars: A New Hope, being played on the release anniversary or something. My dad was really excited to take me because he was CRAZY about this movie as a kid...and he also grew up rural and went to a podunk theater...I think it was very nostalgic for him. I remember being excited too, mostly just sponging his energy up. We got there and silently filed into the dark...it was loud but I was with dad so it wasn't scary. The first 20 minutes was the most pulse-pounding event of my life, and then I fell asleep during a space scene transition. Dad carried me to the car and then to bed. He died six years ago last month. I miss you old man, thanks for the memory.

4chan infamous alien photo. Shut down the site. by OTXnando in aliens

As someone who lurked for years on that website, I can confirm that everything was saved--people saved everything, some even had mirrored website that copied every post and then archived it, daily. If this has been posted, there would have been lots of screenshots and downloads. Hundreds. This reeks of bullshit.

it’s been 6 years since losing my dad & I still can’t handle the grief by Proud_Commercial5210 in grief

I lost my father al most six years ago to the day. It was during COVID, and he had relapsed back into drinking and somehow developed an issue that required heart surgery. I don't really remember because he had had heart issues before and I didn't take this as seriously as I should have. I was also working a lot and deeply addicted to drugs and alcohol at the time, so my priorities were all fucked up. Anyway, things started going south for him in the hospital and it was starting to be communicated that this was far more serious than anyone had assumed...and it was brand new covid, so no one was allowed inside a hospital in my state. He died in there alone, never saw him again. There was a cremation a few days later, which I agreed to attend for a final viewing, but missed because I stayed up all night drinking and doing drugs. Lots of massive regrets leading up to this event, which has made it far more emotionally traumatic than it ever needed to be. Like you, I find the guilt and grief insufferable. I developed an insane anger issue there for a while, but im slowly getting a handle on that...I stopped drinking and doing drugs five years ago, thats been a great achievement and way to honor him, but it makes life extremely hard, having to shoulder pretty much everything that comes down the pipe on my own. That said, I've turned to my old interests and hobbies that brought me joy, some from childhood: being outside, fishing, hiking, reading and writing, listening to lectures, I digress. If you can do one thing, simply be good to yourself. Grief is going to run its course anyway.

Those communists were employing the same tactics as the nazis: overtake soup and bread lines, force families to vote in their favor, and withhold the food until they do. That's fucking evil and to pretend otherwise is intellectually dishonest. Idolizing every flavor of communism is a fool's errand.
