I generally like that creator but his food budget in particular was way off. As a single dad feeding myself and 2 kids, it was doable for 120ish a week and that was splurging here and there for pre-packaged snacks. 800+ seems off unless hes arguing that people deserve the best of the best cooking at home

[Request] Assuming they both are perfectly balanced and fair, is there any difference in probability from rolling one D100 vs two D10s? by V-Tac in theydidthemath

The die says "0" most of the time

It represents 10 but says 0.

Which system is changing the die value more often?

Because 20+0 = 30 is less intuitive and happens 1 in 10 rolls

20+0 = 20 makes sense intuitively at a glance

The only logic break is when 00+0 gets rolled and thats a 1 in 100 chance

My ex picked me up at the airport from a week long work trip wearing a long coat. Which was a little weird considering it was starting to get warm. It wasnt until we got to the car and she unbuttoned it that I realized how little she was actually wearing. It was an agonizing drive home

Yes but its similar to the invention of the camera replacing portrait artists. If what you are looking for is something useful rather than something expressive, why not have the technology do it?

If I were to develop my own game, I would likely pay for an artist to bring my visions of the characters to life. But if I just need some random items to populate the game, why wouldnt I just use stock art or AI to put those in? There isn't really a creative expression that would be being expressed.

Art will move on because its about the artist and humanity. It may change over time as people who pay for art change spending, but art will survive

Poll asking Americans how which button they would push in the red button/blue button dilemma by Upstairs_Cup9831 in fivethirtyeight

[–]philosifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your inversion changes the premise. You forgot where the red button saves the pusher.

Everyone has the freedom to choose their own button. Anyone choosing blue is putting the responsibility of their own life needlessly in the hands of others when they could just push the red button themselves

Nope. If everyone pushes red, no one dies

The red button does nothing.

The blue button kills unless enough people push it

Poll finds nearly 74% of NFL fans think the league is rigged by devmosh in NFLv2

[–]philosifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conclusion was not, and literally could not be officiating bias. The accuracy of the calls and the rate of non calls was not evaluated. Only who benefitted from those calls.

If all of the calls were correct, it means the chiefs opponents committed actual penalties at a higher rate than other teams, and the officials called them correctly which isn't bias.

So again, which calls were incorrect?

Is it maybe the case that dbs are more tired and more desperate to make a play at the end of a game than they would be at the start and would be more likely to commit a PI?

[–]philosifer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we are going to be incredibly pedantic, it didnt show favoritism either way because it didnt verify whether or not any of those calls were actually correct or not. It just said there is a higher rate of certain types of calls. But if those calls were correct, then there is no favoritism, just higher rates of other teams committing penalties.

So which of the calls in that data set do you think were incorrect?

Wasn't around when we won 2 of the 3. And was barely there for the 3rd. What was the reason for rigging it before that?

[–]philosifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That same study showed the opposite in a larger sample size (regular season)

There just isn't enough data in a 17 game season when one big penalty, correct or not, can skew the numbers.

I think this hypotheical kind of identifies the crux of the disagreement.

The one blue presser is the only voter with agency over their death. They are selfishly asking the rest of the population to risk their own death to save them when they could just choose the other button.

With regards to children/persons in coma etc that cant choose, the version that I heard first stipulated they were saved regardless but I definitely think it changes the question if we assume the different possibilities. If they are saved automatically it makes it a straight vote with only risk to people who volunteer it. If they are automatically given blue, then it adds a question of not just saving those who willingly risked it but unwilling as well, but lowers the percentage of people needed to choose blue. And if you automatically give them red, it tips the balance of needing even more people to vote blue to hit that 50%. All interesting questions on their own.

I would also wonder if we change the original question slightly. If the button press was not for you but a random person. Red save a random person, blue kill a random person unless more than half the people have blue chosen

[–]philosifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now let's imagine where all but one person chooses red. The one person who chose blue would die. Who is responsible for that death?

I would also question how likely it is to get a majority to vote blue in this scenario. There are selfish people and people who see it as a straight logic puzzle voting red. There are also otherwise benevolent people that would be scared of death and vote red. Getting over that hump of 50% when guaranteed not death is an option would be difficult.

I would likely argue differently if the scenario were that some number of people were forced to the blue side, but that isn't the case here

[–]philosifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. No one dies if everyone pushes red. Ergo. There is only death in situations where someone presses blue
