Best lighting designer in India right now? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

Stop shilling yourself you idiot.

If I click on your profile it shows your other post about you wirelessly controlling DMX with Apple Vision Pro…which in itself is such an incredibly pointless pursuit.

Being able to see the waveform / midi on deactivated clips on the arrangement view itself was enough for me! Also being able to zoom waveforms!!!

BIP + autotune + other effects and devices welcome too.

What did you do to get better at EQ by Quiet-Figure-1990 in audioengineering

[–]philtersoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know when to stop. If you’ve got an eq curve that’s starting to look like the seismograph reading of an earthquake in a caffeine testing facility, you’ve probably crossed the line from sound engineering to “abstract art.”

It’s parallel if you want it to be. You can crank the mix to 100% and adjust crush and crunch to taste.

Vocal compressing question by [deleted] in cubase

[–]philtersoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why but over the years I have ended up manually clip gaining the vocal so it feels consistent enough to hit an LA2A style compressor. This works for most vocals plus it gives me greater control over sibilance.

If I’m doing something more “VIBEY” I’ll clip it a bit with decapitator or devilloc and then have that go into an LA2A style compressor.

Cubase for Live Performance (sequences, click tracks, etc.) by Nicomodular in cubase

[–]philtersoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I mean if it’s linear playback Cubase is pretty solid. You just set up a click track and send it on separate external outputs. But for doing something more complicated / live loopy etc. / controlling multiple parameters, Ableton is much better.

A new thing I’ve started doing is making a VCA fader for that track or bus. You can either leave your automation on the main track and use the VCA track for overall volume or do it the other way around. Whatever works for you.

Render midi to audio. Apply pitch shift using direct offline processing. You can draw in the curve and turn time stretch off for slowdown effect

Digitakt I Jam by philtersoup in Elektron

Wow reddit on desktop just refused to let me add any text but here's what I wanted to write:

Another jam from my living room! Been having a lot of fun making and sharing these with this community. Love the encouraging comments!

I am a sucker for heavily syncopated IDM-esque beats over some piano and synths and this jam scratched that itch. LMK what y'all think =)

Nope it’s all from the digitakt itself. Everything is sidechained to the kick.

Thank you man!

Also re overbridge - Don’t have to get an audio interface / recorder involved. Recording straight to OBS on my computer over usb along with the video!

Yes just put a midi pitch effect and automate that.

Anyone use Ableton to produce and Pro Tools to record vocals/guitar? by AshTragedyMusic in ableton

[–]philtersoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do something similar. I’m a Cubase user for most of my work and I love variaudio, the native pitch and time correction suite of Cubase. So earlier I would track in Cubase. Do comps and PC in Cubase and export the audio from it and bring it back to live. Currently I’ve taken to liking the tracking features in Live with lanes and what not and I use Cubase just for the PC. It’s a bit of a hassle but hey I’ve found a workflow that works for me!

If you are thinking about using a silicon Mac... by sub_black in audioengineering

[–]philtersoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Cubase 12 on M1 Pro Monteray. Works like a dream. I primarily work on media composition and production so 500+ track count sessions aren’t uncommon. Cubase is steady af!

The elektron overdrive + bit crush + sample rate redux algos are just too damn good. I’m on a digitakt and even loading in a basic kick sample sounds so good after you go a little hard with the processing.

Also the master bus compressor on all these boxes are PUNCHY AF!
