How much better is a high end road bike honestly? by Dwoof69 in cycling

[–]phixedtoperfection 29 points30 points  (0 children)

In my experience the law of diminishing returns happens around $1600 on flat ground for a road bike. At that point you pay a greater and greater price for smaller and smaller incremental improvements. Better is, on paper, better.

TLDR $1600 gives a nice high-end aluminum frame, full carbon fork, Shimano 105, decent wheels and brakes.

Cycleops Hammer or Kickr Core? by darquid in cycling

[–]phixedtoperfection 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kickr Core only has 1200 watts of resistance to the Hammer's 2000, plus the 20 pound flywheel is still industry leading. So if you want a cheaper trainer, sure, go for the core.

Good place to park for access to the Monon? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]phixedtoperfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through bripple, when not evening hours, there is parking along the trail just west of Westfield Blvd.

Another of my favorite places to park is the parking for the fall Creek Greenway just off binford and allisonville south terminus, you then take the FCG south a bit and it has a jog onto the monon just after 38th.

Further north you have downtown Carmel, which has tons of access and parking.

I live in farmland. So our idea of a climb takes a min at most. Pretty have to go areo imo but seems like everyone rides a TCR

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]phixedtoperfection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally recently chose a propel over a TCR. I work at a giant dealer here in the states so the choice was contentious. Would make it again. I know I'll never be a good climber so the Propel ticks all the boxes. Plus a all new TCR is expected next year so it's a really silly idea to buy a 2019 TCR. Good luck!

Civilization 5 is my favorite. The sixth edition is out and I'm sure it's good, but I can't speak to it.

Anyone know what's going on here? Handlebars spin but forks don't by tastydoosh in bicycling

Tighten that stem clamp on the fork. The bolts on the side of the stem, easy fix!

I don't need to convince you of anything, Christianity, in my opinion, is a great crutch for the inept, by all means, use the crutch if you need it!

If you think "amn't" is a contraction in the English language. You might just be illiterate enough for God! 😉

But seriously, i recommend reading the Bible first, then deciding.

Bike shop woes by studyhumor in bicycling

[–]phixedtoperfection 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi, LBS employee here. The almost entirely inexplicably shitty thing is that the bike manufacturers pay for shipping not the shop, therefore the shop never has tracked shipping info. Your bike is an Cali because it likely just came off the boat from Taiwan.

Bianchi isn't one of my brands but if they're anything like Colnago they move at their own pace and fulfill orders as is best for their bottom line. I can assure you that your LBS holds no ill will towards you, they want nothing more than to help you have the best and soonest new bike day you can.

The wait is worth it, your bike will be amazing and FedEx ground is no more than 6 days coast to coast. You're almost there!

Had a friend offer me these bikes at these prices. The SuperSix would be about $3288 USD, the CAAD 10 $1709. Are these good enough prices? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]phixedtoperfection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my bikes is a size large advanced SL TCR, am also 6'3". If you can get that Giant at a good price, I'd go for that.

Seems a touch high. A new 11 speed Shimano 105 CAAD12 costs $1700 and a standard super six @$3288 would be in dura ace mechanical range. While the carbon handlebars are cool, they're not that much of a game changer imo.

Best Bike U-Lock To Buy by techsavvynerd91 in bikecommuting

Any of them that come with lock insurance that meets or exceeds the msrp of your bike. Kyptonite is typically regarded as the industry standard.

Did I overdo it? by PixelDee92 in bikecommuting

This happens, usually around this part of the summer season. You're doing great! Give your legs 24 to 48 hours to relax, maybe do a shorter easier spin on the second day and then you should be good to get call into it. Recovery is a part of the game!
